CBS can go pound sand. Does anyone know how to find my post on risers and fallers?

Stock up: Justin Hunter, teams are looking at him closer now, excellent pro day
Johnathon Cooper, better footwork than Warmack, can also play OC.
Xavier Rhodes, looked fluid in the drills, second CB off the board
Darius Slay, lean and fast, he passed out his teammate Banks on many boards.
Jamie Collins, standing on the combine numbers, who wouldn't?
Jonathon Franklin, the cream rises to the top, great player, better person.

Stock Down: Bojern Werner, once a top 5 pick, now he's projected late first.
Chance Warmack, is he at his peak, does he have upside.
Sam Montgomery, the slide continues after he disclosed he takes games off.
Erid Reid, looked stiff at the combine, maybe a liabilty in coverrage.

The 2013 NFL pro days are slowly winding down, but the Pittsburgh Steelers brass is still out in full force doing their homework.

On Wednesday, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Kevin Colbert were in attendance at the LSU pro day to observe several draft hopefuls. The big names who worked out were linebacker Kevin Minter; running back Michael Ford; defensive ends Barkevious Mingo and Sam Montgomery; safety Eric Reid; cornerback Tyrann Mathieu; tackle Chris Faulk; and punter Brad Wing.

Minter, a 3-4 inside linebacker prospect, ran a forty-yard dash time of 4.67, which was an improvement from his 4.81 time that he registered last month at the NFL combine. His 34.5" vertical jump was also an improvement over his 33" combine effort.

Reid bettered his combine forty-yard dash time in addition as he ran a 4.50 on Wednesday. He decided, however, to stand on the rest of combine numbers.

Mingo and Mathieu both stood on their combine numbers, but reportedly took part in the position drills.

Out on the west coast, Steelers defensive backs coach Carnell Lake and quarterbacks coach Randy Fichtner were both spotted at the USC pro day on Wednesday. Lake was obviously there to watch safety T.J. McDonald perform, while Fichtner very well could have been there to watch wide receiver Robert Woods work in addition to quarterback Matt Barkley, who the Steelers most likely will not be drafting next month.

McDonald only participated in the broad jump inside and leapt 10'11" There is no word yet as to what his forty time was.

In case you are wondering, and I know you are, Ryan Clark was at the LSU pro day and Troy Polamalu was at the USC pro day.

  4. Hey, thanks for the invite and the welcome. I all but gave up on the CBS site due to work, and between the admin dropping me from the Iron City Asylum group leader, the editing issues, just not worth the aggravation.

One huge thing I noticed . . . . THERE"S AUTOMATIC SPELL CHECK ON THIS SITE!! YIPPEE!

Draft related: my thoughts have the Steelers first round pick coming down between either an OLB or secondary position. Defense seems to be their most pressing concern. They' had success filling skill position needs later on in the draft so I can't see RB or WR going out first.

Hope when FOT makes his way over here he uses his CBS name! Otherwise we won't recognize him!

  6. Watched the Austin video, the fact that it was against the likes of OU and not say a FCS team peaks my interest, I also observed in that video Tyler Brays arm strength, yikes, some of his throws were back foot off balance on target lasers. wouldn't mind him in the 3rd or 4th if he lasts that long. I know we just added JPW and Gradkowski but i don't think they are here as heirs to Ben, Bray might just be. A lot of people compare him to Cutler in arm strength, if we select him lets hope he doesn't have the same all about ME attitude, i like Cutlers fire though.

Any thoughts? Oh and thanks for having me aboard.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if we end up with someone we shouldn't have ended up with, like DD last year. in the 1st round, whoever we pick. JUST STAY HEALTHY FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD.

That's too bad, I always enjoyed correcting FOT's spelling mistakes.

Hmmmm, why is that Bites, is it because you like to talk about the new line of Calvin Kline clothing, perhaps it has something to do with Mel Kiper suCKing!! That can't be, maybe because you like to talk about our Steeler draft GM Kevin Colbert. ;) :p

I think he goes early to mid 2nd round. Arm strength is way over compensated for ie. JaMarcus Russell and Vince Young. I would rather see the Steelers take a QB who has the mental copacity to handle the speed and talent in the NFL.

  12. Oh, don't worry, his spelling is horrific it'll give him away regardless of the name he chooses.

Man your dad was really young when you were born!!!!

  14. nybites M.V.P. Steelers UCONN

IF my dad were still alive he would be 98.... back to the draft. I notice Walter Football went OL happy in the middle rounds, it's possible but unlikely. This is a deep class for WR, Safety, DT, and LB, mabye the OL gets snapped up and reached for, pushes more talent and skill players back to Pittsburgh.

I will pound the table for Cooper as well. Also for Robert Woods. As I always say I find late DL talent, guys that stick on teams, this year it's Spencer Nealy. The Broncos just signed a very good DT I liked a lot in the draft a few years back, Terrance Knighton.

I would pound the table for those guys also, but one guy I absolutely will especially in the 6th round will be Marquise Wilson, this kid has too much talent to pass up in round 6 and could be the Steel of the draft.

  16. I love how you'll pound the table on Woods. I'll be right there with you if they don't get Hopkins

According to reports Mingo had a great pro day, and that's good for him.

What worries me is that he still hasn't benched and to my knowledge doesn't have an injury. Which leads me to believe he couldn't hold the edge in our scheme if needed too, and might get pushed around by better OL.

Barkevious Mingo, DL (6-4 3/4, 237) ? Mingo refused to do the bench but was off the charts in the positional workout. He did drills with his hand in the ground as a defensive lineman and in space as an outside linebacker. He?s in magnificent shape. He worked out for more than an hour and never broke a sweat, but there are still concerns about his strength.

  18. I think he is smarter than either of those 2, so I believe the mental capacity is there, will he use it is up to him, but as you know you can't teach arm strength. I also think Landry Jones in the 3rd or 4th would be ok.

  19. StlCrtn Franchise Player Steelers

I know he Bray is a lot smarter than those two. He seemed to get mentally lazy at Tennessee though. I 'm not sure if it was because he had great WRs or maybe the SEC defenses knew how to shake him up and throw him off his game. If it's the latter, I would be worried because as great as the defenses are in the SEC, the NFL is even going to be worse.
