The Homer in me has to call out that several UConn players in the NFL showed up yesterday, most notably Dwayne Gratz. UConn has another CB worth a mid round pick, Byron Jones.

    Updated Mock:

    1. Eddie Goldman, DT, ,Florida State, BPA upgrade over McClendon
    2. Derron Smith, S, Fresno State, he is a Lebeau type pleyer
    3. Ereck Flowers, OT, The Mike Adams experiment is winding down.
    4. Byron Jones, CB, UConn, Ike's repacement.
    5. Kenny Bell,, WR, Nebraska, vlue here, upgrades Lance Moore
    6. DJ Foster, RB, Arizona State, need a backup for Bell
    7. Silverberry Mohon, upgrade ST and pass rush.
    U. Kaleb Johnson, OG, Rutgers
    U. Geremy Davis, WR, Uconn

One thing about Flowers, there's talk of him skyrocketing into the first round. I've liked him all season, but that just seems ridiculous.

Not Ridiculous, OT is so valuable in the NFL, 3rd rounders get taken in the 20's. Sam Baker comes to mind. The way Beachum is improving, Adams is a backup, really no OT needs unless injuries come and bite the roster. They are finally buying into Munchak, last night was an A+ report card on the pass pro.

I had mentioned no DL in round 1, but if you look at boards, the top S, WR, and LB's will all be gone when they pick. Not a fan of Funchess and in fact I have no WR until round 5, but that kid Kenny Bell impressed me. Naturally Jalen Strong out of ASU is intruguing but I think round 2 is too early for WR. Unless he runs 4.6 he won't be there in round 3.

Speaking of 4.6, as much as bb likes to criticize the 40, and in part it gets a lot of hype.... Johnny Azzhat ran a 4.6, Luke Keuchly caught him in a flash, welcome to the NFL kid.

looking at a few mocks, do these buttwipes even study the rosters. I admit I gave Pittsburgh a NT in round one, only because he was BPA on my latest board and the onlly fit. I cannot see Funchess or Shalique Calhoun, they are not fits. Taking a WR in round one would be retarded. An edge rusher comes to mind right away, but I could not find one who grades out, who will be there when they pick in the mid to late 20's or hopefully later.

The deepest and most talented group on the Steelers are; OL, DL, WR. YOu could argue LB ,but until Worilds is under contract, and Jarvis Jones starts getting it, there is a need for a pash rusher.

Vic Beasley will be long gone and sorry =sb, I have a concerne with Shane Ray and his personal misconduct and lack of discipline on the field, he has a touch of Suh in him, plus he's not there when Tomlin and Colbert make the call.

The medical on Hau'oli Kikaha will be HUGE, this is a complete LB and will shine in the NFL, IF he stays healthy. I am not a fan of the undersized LB that have high grades, namely Striker from OK.

To me on Defense, the priority is OLB, CB, NT. I am not enamored with Goldman, but he seems less likely to bust than a first round DB. Plenty of good OLB's in day two to pick from, that was my logic. Is Steve McClendon a stud, no. Does MIke Mitchell priaise him, yup. So I trust the assistant head coach. However, when you have a chance to upgrade a roster spot, you pull the trigger. That is what the building your roster through the draft is all about. Improve talent at positions and add depth. Goldman fits that bill. I know we have big Dan, but he could also play the 5, I would love him on the edge stuffing the run and batting down balls. I am leaning towards the Steelrs looking for DL that can be moved like chess pieces,. On passing downs, McClendon comes out and they shift Heyward , Kiesel, and Tuitt into different formations.

If any of you get the chance, go back and read some of the things from the beginning of this thread. It's pretty cool to check out and kind of see who we were right and wrong about.

Some disappointing thoughts ran through my anylitical brain. If Jim Harbaugh is at Michigan, and the other DB is still in Baltimore, then he will have some really good intel on the Big 10 players. I would think that is a HUGE advantage to have your brother living amongst the college players evaulating them 24/7.

Yeah, but I'd love for the Ravens to draft Funchess. I liked his potential, but I've gone sour on him. Will bust in the NFL, especially if he stays at WR.

Some thoughts on te Georgia vs. Louisville DELK? Bowl.

My notes on the Cardinal players by Number.

8- Gerod Holliman, FS, ball skills ,size, that's it. Not a Steeler Safety
2- James Sample SS,, he is a STEELER, hits like a mack truck.
18- Gerald Christian TE,, I like his game, hands concentration.
70- John Miller, OL, you cannot coach WANT TO, this kid has it.
    3. Charles Gaines, CB, didn't see turn and mirror from him .
23- Brandon Radcliffe, RB, he will be playing on Sunday;s.

Could be a Ravens' safety, though. If that happens, I'll roll my eyes as we have to put up with drivel regarding how he's the best safety in the NFL.

Is Goldman better than Danny Shelton?

  12. demolisher43 Franchise Player Steelers

It's hard to say at this point. I think they're 1A and 1B, and you can put them in either order without much argument from me. Shelton looks like he'd be better as a pure NT because he's an inch shorter and 15 pounds heavier, but he penetrates the backfield more with more sacks and TFL than Goldman. On the other hand, Florida State's defense is more talent-laden, and coaches and teammates of Goldman credit him for doing all the dirty work which allows everyone else to thrive, so it sounds like Goldman might actually be the better choice if we're looking for the next Casey Hampton.

I should also mention that Goldman has been picked before Shelton in every mock I've done, but Shelton is two spots ahead of Goldman on Draftscout's big board.

Keep an eye on Alex Carter from Stanford. Could be the best fit at corner for us in this draft (as Beach showed, Wexell likes him too).

  14. nybites M.V.P. Steelers UCONN

I thought I had mentinoed Carter, maybe just in my notes. It was as plain as day the talent level at Georgia vs. Louisville. Gurley out, no problem, Freshman Chubb ran for a few hundred yards. Also Davante Parker, really good, but his best attribute is YAC. On the other hand, Jaelen Strong from ASU has the best hands I've seen in a while, and great footwork. Both First rounders unless Strong runs a 4.6. But I cannot see them going WR in round one. They need help on D, the pick my be an edge rusher depending on Jason Whirlpool does.

I love this thread. I got no sages of wisdom, but I go outside linebacker all day if I'm the Steelers....I hear it's deep, we're not, and it's the most important (BY FAR) position on our defense!

Georgia Tech's right guard (Mason - #70) is a beast!

  17. nybites M.V.P. Steelers UCONN

Was anyone in awe of Trae Waynes and said yeah he's a lock for the Steelers? Me neither. I have looked at 5 mocks this week, don't like any of them. I am finding guys I like are rater 10 spots too high or too low for mocking them to PIttsburgh.

I do know this, it won't be OL unless Adrus Peat falls into thier lap.

I am looking at the roster, and really TE is a luxury pick, Heath has 2-3 more seasons in him, I would draft one next year. Aslso for those of you salivationg over Nick O'Leary, is he night and day a huge upgrade over Will Johnson? I would not use a 3rd rounder on him. A similar size player will be a UFA, Lance Kendricks, not sure what the price tag is on him but I will bet Hoodie will be looking to replace Aaron "Smoking Gun" Hernandez.

As far as depth for LB, I still am hoping HoJo becomes something, and nobody knows what we have in Zumwalt,

  18. The Steelers wont tag Worilds again but I'm in the camp of bringing him back unless McPhee is brought in. When Harrison retires there just isn't anything else there. Jarvis hasn't shown anything and Moats is just a guy. If Pitt clears the requisite cap room I'd rather target McPhee then any corner in FA. Helu is another player to target at the right price. Like his game, but obviously not for big money.

As for the draft, BPA is always the sound strategy, but the obvious need areas are OLB and CB. OT depth and D-Line depth are necessary too but the former two positions are immediate potential pseudo-starter needs.

I like Dupree and Beasley in the first. I doubt either is there but if either is those are no brainer picks. For corners, I like Carter and Johnson assuming Waynes is gone. Collins (versatile o' lineman), Shelton and Goldman could also be considered, but I'd hold off on d'line until later in the draft if possible.

Ideal offseason would be bringing in McPhee, Helu, drafting Dupree or Beasley in the first, doubling down on corner in the draft, and adding depth to both lines. I wouldn't be opposed to adding a high potential player in the draft at any position though, like that Beckham kid. Always room for talent anywhere.

Anyone who said Jameis Winston would be the first overall pick in the draft. turn in your Mel Kiper Sucks Membership Card, class this missed.

I am taping "bama and State, I have no horse in the race, but really enough of Alabama in the final, hoping it's the Buckeyes.

Speaking of Buckeyes, you know they will draft someone, but who? Any guesses? I got my money on Doran Grant in the middle rounds.

We can theoretically keep all of our OLBs if we let CB get depleted. Even then, we'd need an OLB to replace Harrison on the depth chart, who if he stays will be signed to a one-year deal. So, the need at OLB never really goes away until the draft.

Same goes for DL. We'll need at least one DL, end or nose, regardless of if we keep or cut permanently Brett Keisel.

EJ Bibbs is my TE right now. He's a fifth-rounder at present. Would replace Michael Palmer on the depth chart and hopefully develop into something more.
