Nobody said Archer was a bust, but forgive us for being SOUR on a third rounder that has spent more time on the sidelines than in game situtions. We gave Limas Sweed every opportunity in the world, but injuries and inconsistencies were just too detrimental to overcome. You would have to be obtuse to not see some sort of comparison and the slight build he has. MJD and Sproles are short but not built like a tinker toy.

If this were 20 games into his career you may get more people understanding your point. How many 3rd rounders spend more time on the field than the sideline? According to Pro football Reference 13 guys drafted in the first round have not even gotten in a game yet. 7 more (including Archer) have played in 1. Only 4 have started both games. Terrance Westis the only third rounder having a big impact but how much would he be playing if Tate is healthy? Same can be said of Jerick McKinnon if Peterson isnt inactive he probably isn't playing.

I guess we agree to disagree. I see Colbert went for SPLASH players, the problem is Archer is in the shallow end of the pool dipping his feet,, not going off the high board making cannon balls. *ROFL*

If Archer is going to make a splash, he's going to have to hit the weight room and bulk up and get stronger. Right now he's too small and too skinny! As Bites said, he's not as big and strong as Sproles and MJD weighs a lot more and is fast and has the moves. As does Sproles, but MJD is a bit bigger and tougher than Sproles. Archer strength wise and bulk -wise can't compare to these 2........Plus the fact that he's not going to get many kick returns from where the kicker is kicking the ball now......I do remember him coming out of the end zone once last game but only got to the 15. It also takes some blocking for a good return. Are the Steelers ST's doing their job blocking? Most don't get returned so I haven't seen that much of them yet.......

I want to put Dillon Day, OC - Mississippi State, on the watch list for the Steelers. 6'4", 299, and also plays OG. No speed, but lots of hustle and a nasty streak like there's no tomorrow.

Here's a radical idea. What if the Steelers don't take a corner next year? Ike Taylor is out for a while, and if William Gay plays well and Allen gets some god-dam discipline, the Steelers may not see any reason to go away from their drafting philosophy of waiting for a corner. Gay definitely didn't screw up against the Panthers, and Antwon Blake wasn't terrible either. The number of corners currently on the roster mean that both Taylor and Brice McCain need to be let go if the Steelers were to need a corner based on numbers alone.

It's just something to consider. If corner can afford to be ignored, the Steelers could prefer to continue to bolster OLB and DL while finally adding a real threat to support Miller at TE. Nick O'Leary continues to be my favorite TE candidate for next year.

I'm sure there's a reason the Steelers haven't taken a CB in the early rounds, and it isn't due to lack of availability. I was thinking about Antwon Blake this morning, and if you remember there were glowing reports about him in training camp - that he was really "getting it." I think with some playing time under live fire he will get comfortable and play well enough. He has the speed, just needs to get some confidence against the better WRs he will face.

Looking at all the first round CB's taken over the last few years, this position is just as big of a crapshoot
as QB. With all the rule changes no sense in drafting one that early because they're all
    going to give up catches.

As far as the Steelers and their splash players, you cant icing a half baked cake.

False. That would mean Dalton could lead the Bengals to a playoff win.

If it happened tomorrow, there'd be no playoff games to win.

New mock. Just shooting the breeze with possibles.

    1. Michael Bennett, NT, Ohio State - this year's Aaron Donald
    2. Hau'oli Kikaha, OLB, Washington - everything we want in an OLB; watch him
    3. Ty Sambrailo, OT, Colorado State - would work great in Munchak's blocking scheme
    4. Ben Koyack, TE, Notre Dame
    5. Corey Grant, RB, Auburn - bigger than Dri Archer, and if reports are to be believed, may be even faster
    6. Denzel Davall, OLB, Alabama
    7. Desmond Hollin, DE, Florida State

UDFA. Kyle Brindza, K, Notre Dame
UDFA. Isaiah Johnson, SS, Georgia Tech

If that's true he will go in rounds 2-3. After the league sees what Archer does in Pittsburgh the midget speed demons will be all the rage

This is a deep RB class, so you actually may be right, LTS. Grant supposedly ran an unofficial 4.11 40 during spring workouts. He's a 5th rounder on most boards now, though.

    Booooooooo! *REF*

One thing I'm really noticing about next year is the depth at OLB. The Steelers will almost certainly pick another OLB early, and whoever it is has the potential to turn out great.

New mock draft (for our new projected draft position: 14 overall in round 1 and corresponding picks in the other rounds)

    1. Vic Beasley, OLB, Clemson - I like Florida's Dante Fowler better, but I'm keeping my own opinion out of it
    2. Ereck Flowers, OT, Miami
    3. Danny Shelton, NT, Washington
    4. Ben Koyack, TE, Notre Dame
    5. Corey Grant, RB, Auburn
    6. Denzel Devall, OLB, Alabama
    7. Ibraheim Campbell, SS, Northwestern

UDFA. Desmond Hollin, DE, Florida State
UDFA. Kyle Brindza, K, Notre Dame

Demo, do you think they ignore CB next year as opposed to OT or the other late round picks? I don't have any suggestions, just asking about the player selection really.

  20. demolisher43 Franchise Player Steelers

I'm trying to keep corner out of it. It's challenging, and my doing it passes corner off as a need satisfied strictly by numbers on the roster. I still believe our defense's problem in the front seven. OLB is a deep class, and the Steelers won't pass up on one next year with the impending free agents we have at the position.

TE has to be considered, or we'll have no depth behind the second-oldest player on offense. The trouble is there is no definite star at the position in this class.

CB could be substituted for NT, but again, I'm all about beefing up the front seven. Another 5th-round corner would be even more annoying than ignoring punter since we released Sepulveda. They never work, and I would cut Colbert's hand off before he wastes another draft pick like that. No corner is better than a 5th-round corner.

Prospects for CB include Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, PJ Williams, Ronald Darby, Josh Shaw, or Marcus Peters.
