Steelers Draft and Mel Kiper sucks thread!!

  1. That's where the size worry comes in. Granted, we don't have any tape on him before he weighed like this but still.

  2. I'm not sure. Outside of McCullers, Bryant and maybe Shazier I think many of the guys they got are pro ready for the most part. I don't include Archer as developmental just because I don't see how he could develop since he already has the speed and the electricity with the ball and uses it well.

Well boys...another draft in the books!

Want to say "Atta Boy!" to all the draftniks like nyb, bb, sb, 2k and the rest that really spent alot of time and effort on this again. While it may seem like it goes mostly unnoticed, it is greatly appreciated at this time of year.

    Thanks!

All in all, I think it went well.

We got a potential stud ILB to pair with Timmons.

We got the starting DE we needed to pair with Heyward.

We got the tall WR we all wanted for Ben.

We got a CB to develop behind Allen, Ike and Gay.

We got a speedy little midget to entertain us a handful of time every game!

And, we got some depth and ST guys in the later rounds.

    GREAT WEEKEND! *DRINK*

Only 1 UDFA CB? And another TE? Mostly just camp bodies so can't really complain too much.

I appreciate the nod Mano, but this year had very little to do with me. Imo, the best pick of the darft for the steelers was Tuitt, much like the ravens own Timmy, i thought Tuitt was a top 3 interior lineman in this draft, and a legit first round prospect.

If it was not for all these teams reaching for O talent i dont think the ravens and others would get so MUCH quality on D.

Pittsburgh Steelers 2014 Rookie Free Agents

    Player Pos. Ht. Wt. College
Devon Carrington DB 6-1 204 Stanford
Chris Elkins OL 6-4 300 Youngstown State
Ethan Hemer DE 6-6 285 Wisconsin
Kaycee Ike OT 6-5 293 UAB
Howard Jones LB 6-4 238 Shepherd
    *THUMBSUP*
Brendon Kay QB 6-4 228 Cincinnati
Josh Mauro DE 6-6 282 Stanford
Roy Philon DT 6-3 291 Louisville
Will Simmons OG 6-5 342 East Carolina
Eric Waters TE 6-5 245 Missouri

I think Jones and Mauro have the best chance to stick. Mauro can play the 5, only X amount of guys in each draft that can do that. The best one of the bunch was arguably Stephon Tuitt, followed by Rasheed Haggeman. A late round guy who went undrafted, if he gets his desire for the game up. and heals properly, is DeAndre Coleman out of Cal.

Where did Steven Clark end up?

Going to be interesting to see how this Draft class comes out.. Got the potential for the top 3 guysseeing a lot of playing time in fall.. Don't sleep on Blanchflower.. he is a 2 way TE - can catch and block. The Depth of LB is fantastic.. and thus so ends the Chris Carter experience.. Hopefully - hated that pick when we made it a few years ago.

    enjoy,

Howard Jones looks like ideal practice squad bait to me. Reading up on him suggests he has bad mental lapses and trouble grasping the game. That would go double on our defense. If my hunch is right, I wonder if he has much chance at all to make our roster this year.

That would suck if he didn't. We could use a clear-cut OLB to back up Jones and Worilds at OLB. The best we have right now is Chris Carter. Arthur Moats would probably be there too, but I don't know if I'd call him a "clear-cut OLB."

We have a logjam at LB now. The starters we had last season plus the ones we drafted mean some very promising depth at ILB. We could stash 5 ILBs on the roster this year and I wouldn't call it a bad thing; we stand to only have 3 RBs, creating the available space.

Steven Clark signed with the Dolphins. For the record, Kirby Van Der Kamp remains unsigned.

Has anyone noticed just how much younger this defense is now? Ike, Troy, and Will Allen are now the only defenders on the team who are at least 30.

YES!!! I was talking about this with a buddy the other day. The "old" defense that was in place has been almost completely turned over in a span of 3 years.

  12. Younger means more athletic and faster.....this team may have one of the fastest defenses in the league w players like Shazier, Timmons, Mitchell, Thomas, Worilds and Troy.

There will be tons of players cut by the 1st game of the season. You never know how they'll turn out. Some could be a late gem and some will be awful. It's hard to predict who will be kept and will be cut. The ones cut will have to out into the real world and work for a living, like the rest of us. I wanna wish them good luck considering we all do it.

And as usual Colbert has said they made no reaches and like the players that were there. Which he says every year, right SMCND? Thats why the Steelers have been 8-8 the last 2 seasons! Ben is very happy they got that big receiver in the 4th round round out of the ACC. Now all he has to do is catch the ball and have some speed and quickness.

To all you guys saying this is a passing league.
The Seahawks proved that running the ball and playing great defense still works.

    Denver Broncos.

  16. Lynch 15 carries 39 yds 1 TD

    Wilson 206 yds 2 TDs

Yes their defense dominated but the running game had very little to do w this win

Why not look at the entire season for the Seahawks instead of just one game for this trend that rarebreed speeks of... - will give you a better picture - they Ran more than they passed - so did san fran.. the 2 best teams in the league...

    enjoy,

    Love the running game :)

  19. I thought he was referring to actually winning the game....SF won a lot of games because of Kaep also

Running the ball and having a good running game and short passing game keeps the ball out of the other teams hands. This is why this formula will always work. All you have to do is do it, which isn't easy nowadays. 1st RB taken was in the 50's, so many teams feel RB's aren't as important as they used to be. Teams set up the run via tha pass these days....Bit if a team can run the bal, they are in good shape, if they have a good defense also.....
