I realize giving the Rams Jones and not Austin was a stretch, but a mock draft isn't fun to form unless a few curve balls are thrown into the mix.

Datone Jones is eerily like Justin Tuck. Tuck has been used as an end and tackle, which Jones should as well. The Rams have no need for DE, so Jones may actually be a full-time DT in their system.

Why? Kendall Langford disappointed last season. Maybe it was because that was his first NFL foray into the 4-3, maybe he's just happy with his contract. Either way, it opens a small window for the Rams to try another DT.

In addition, Fisher is one of those coaches who enjoys a great rotation at DT. Jones, if drafted, would certainly be a primary rotator in his rookie season.

Jones is also a pretty good player. He's not making it past the Giants at 19; Jerry Reese may be on the hunt for a Tuck replacement, and Jones would be perfect.

  3. Long had 11.5 sacks, Quinn had 10.5, and William Hayes had 7, so you're right he'd see all his time at DT. I could see the Rams making a depth move to put someone behind Langford beyond Cudjo but I just don't see them investing a 1st in a depth move instead of a guy like Kenny Vaccaro who could start immediately.

In all honesty I half expect the Rams to trade down out of 1 of their 2 picks.

Did someone ask for a party crasher? Elvis is in the building, folks. We got rid of a Kruger, and replaced him with Canty, Spears and Dumervil for the equivalent money of Kruger. Woohoo!!! (sorry, Lyman)

Dem, as far as this mock goes and our pick is concerned, this site seems to agree with you:

  13. I liked Allen as well but he isn't irreplaceable either. Robert Golden is a guy I am high on and now they can draft another safety as an heir to the starters and maybe DCS finally cracks the roster.

Yeah they project goldon as more of a FS, than a SS. DCS will be the SS or whoever we draft.

  15. From NFL.com's article on three teams that would fit Mathieu

Pittsburgh Steelers: The Steelers typically prefer bigger cornerbacks, but Mathieu could be an intriguing option due to his versatility as a defender. He has the capacity to cover outside as a corner or blitz off the edges from the slot. In coordinator Dick LeBeau's aggressive zone-blitz scheme, versatile players like Mathieu are valued at a premium. Additionally, Mathieu's ability to provide an impact as a punt returner could allow Antonio Brown to concentrate on developing into a true No. 1 receiver. Factoring in Mike Tomlin's tough-love approach with his players, a marriage between Mathieu and Pittsburgh seems like it might be a viable option on draft day.

I wouldn't mind bringing in Mathieu. I personally wouldn't want a 1st or 2nd round pick on him but a 3rd rounder for a playmaker? Could be terrific value.

I don't know where I stand on Matthieu, Not sure if he gets it! He's already got an ego 10x the size of his head, you know after his rookie contract, he's not going to stay, The Steelers need to get guys like Taylor and Allen personality wise, guys that just want fair market value and are not going to look to break the bank.

Eh, this is a poorly done mock IMO. Keenan Allen won't be the sixth overall pick. The difference between mocks like this and what I try to do is that I keep it plausible. Allen won't be anything more than the third WR picked (maybe fourth or fifth). That was just the first of many picks this mock made that seemed like they literally posted names on a dart board and took their shots.

Generally speaking, Mingo, Ansah, Werner, and Jordan are all regarded as top-flight pass rushers. We don't know for sure which teams value which of them the most. I feel like the scenario I painted is quite possible, however unlikely. Meanwhile, Austin and Patterson are universally regarded as superior prospects to Allen by a decent margin. Allen lacks the raw talent necessary for teams to take a chance on him instead of the high-upside prospects.

Plus, it really peeves me that this mock says three QBs will go in the top 10.

Ajmtan, one could only hope. Realistically no, I don't. Someone will fall though, who, don't know.

I wasn't mocking him to us, Dem put up a mock that had him coming to us, then when I saw the mock that I linked, I'd thought I would share and say he's not the only one.
