I am right with you on Fiedorowicz. I was looking at him last year before he elected to return to school. He is a good blocker but I feel he could get stronger in his lower body. He does not break many tackles as he should. My issue is how many positions are greater needs. If the Steelers do not draft a CB in the first round I would like to see a double dip at CB and that might need to be at picks 97 and 118. Taking a 2nd CB might be a good idea even if the Steelers take one in round 1. TE might need to be ignored this year and more of a priority next draft.

Gilbert looks to be boom or bust. Too low of a ceiling for my tastes. If I did interviews I might feel better about him. If the Steelers take him I would assume they believe they can coach him up.

Dennard, did not play against a high level of WRs and QBs. Michigan State had the nations top run defense placing opposing teams in a lot of 3rd and longs. I think Dennard is near his ceiling. He is very difficult to judge.

Barr, I would love to see him drafted and coached up. I don't understand people dropping him on their boards because he is raw. What about Dion Jordan and Ziggy Ansah last year, I know it was a down draft but Barr should not pass the Steelers. The Cowboys message boards will be terribly disappointed because they are hoping to get Barr @ 16.

Fuller did not have a down year. He had the least amount of targets of any highly rated CB in the draft. Only 37 passes went his way. I think he needs to polish his technique but he gets the job done.

Ebron has too many drops for my tastes. Maybe Heath has spoiled me but I would rather have less speed and better hands.

Mosley's value is down with Spence getting a clean bill of health.

Benjamin, please don't let the Steelers take him here. His agility is terrible. A 7.33 cone is horrible and when I looked at WRs since 2006 that have been this bad in the cone, they all have failed with one exception. Tall receivers who have succeeded in the NFL have exceptional athleticism. How did he not produce with EJ Manuel as his QB? Benjamin is my most overrated player.

I prefer Tuitt over Hageman. Hageman has good deflections but I will take Tuitt's sacks and hurries over Hageman. Tuitt also has more experience in the 3-4.

If Roby is a good pick at 15, give Abbrederis a top 10 grade.

NY, no Moncrief in the second? I like him equal to Robinson. In an interview he was asked why he did not have huge numbers last year and he said the coaches wanted to spread the ball around to take advantage of the best matchups. To me this is a rare attitude among WRs. I think this makes him more likely to not look somewhere else in FA in 4 years.

Flip side 1 of so many 3rd and longs... he had many opportunities to fail.
Flip side 2 of so many 3rd and longs... he was part of that great run defense

This point goes to Gilbert as well, but in reading about the career of Bill Nunn yesterday he was quoting Chuck Noll's philosophy that you look for great athletes, then coach them up. Timmons, Polamalu, Roethlisberger, Pouncey, Wallace, A.Brown are recent examples. Of these, only Wallace did not show marked improvement. Only Pouncey was NFL ready when drafted.

I know im not here anymore, but these posts ( round by rounds) are god like. Almost universally agree with every assessment as well as learned a few things. Exciting time of the year, just wish it came a couple weeks earlier. 13 hours! 6 to pre draft coverage with Mayock and Davis ( i hope thats the team at least).

Only guy i like that wasnt posted in round 2 was terrence brooks, im a fan.

RE:spence, i thought he was more of a SAM? and Mosely is more of your typical mike? maybe will too?

I think too many team will let quality players slide like Mosely- personally im kind of hoping the ravens have a shot at either mosely or HCD right now, but there are quite a number of picks that i would like, im thinknig we may move back especially if qb's slide

    2K,

Always good to see ya.. Thinking it is possible Ravens move back - the brothers work a deal - I the the 49'ners have 11 picks in this years draft - may move up to the Ravens spot... we'll see - will be interesting - I see a lot of movement in the 1st round this year...

That is some great information right there. I went back 10 years and only two receivers with a 3 cone of 7.10 or better have made it at any level in the NFL:

    2008 Mario Manningham 7.34
    2010 Golden Tate 7.12

And they aren't exactly lighting it up.

    To put it in perspective:

    TE Greg Olsen 7.04
    TE Zach Miller 7.01
    TE Vernon Davis 7.00
    TE Owen Daniels 6.88
    TE Anthony Fasano 6.94
    TE Tyler Eifert 6.92
    TE David Paulson 7.18
    TE Julius Thomas 6.94
    TE Cam Jordan 6.82
    TE Tony Moeaki 7.10
    TE Jermaine Gresham 7.07
    TE Jimmy Graham 6.90
    TE Dennis Pitta 6.72
    TE Brandon Pettigrew 7.12
    TE Jermaine Finley 7.15
    TE Dustin Keller 6.88

Numbers aren't everything but that has to at least make some GMs take notice.

May be wrong here, but isnt the biggst knock on Kelvin that his routes look like nascar? that would explain the times. could be a matchup nightmare, but its a lot of work to coach him up. Dont think he should be a first rounder, maybe last first.

And suspect hands. Bad combination. A slower Stephen Hill?

  12. Ravens2k Franchise Player Ravens

I said this on the other board but there is something to being that god damn tall, its really hard to just gain inches on a vert, and not standing vert but i feel like- too often gm;s or teams fall in love with the potential- i just dont know how viable it is to look at tthis guy and think you can coach him up because its a LOT of coaching, everything but his frame is almost bad it seems but what a frame.

i was about to say ' slower stephen hill as i thought you were simply comparing him to hill, but upon closer reading- your discription of slower stephen hill is freaking apt. I also for the record dont really like this CB class that much, the rather recent risers like roby and fuller are meh to me, if im a team that needs a CB i look at dennard then Gilbert then i get sad

Merry Christmas to all, and to all without NFL Network.... Good F'n Luck.

Some fun for today before I start my annual rants and tangents, this is for the younger crowd, the 18-29 year old Male Demographics that pay for this event. They buy trendy beer, trendy clothing, and are influenced more easily by clever ads. This is NOT to say the regulars on this site who fit that criteria, fit that mold. I'm talking about Average Joe, the guy who has no Idea if Will Clarke can play the 5 and that Taylor Hart out of Oregon is a hidden gem who also fits the 3-4 DE.

The Draft Drinking Game- Officially Licensed by Nybites Inc.

ESPN- During the broadcasts every time Mel Kiper Jr. says any one of the phrases" "here's a guy", "production", or mentions his height in partial inches, you take a sip of beer. Typical Mel-ism "Here's a guy at 6 foot 2 and an eight inches, with 4 years of production" that's three sips of beer in one sentence.

NFLN- During the broadcasts every time Mike Mayock says any one of the phrases "plug and play", "bang the table" or "Look I get it" you take a sip of beer.

If you want to get bombed, blasted into oblivion, every time Chris Blimp Berman fumbles his speech pattern with the idiosyncrasy "ehrr" you do a Jello Shot. For someone who is the face of ESPN broadcasts, you would think he would understand the concept of professionalism in speech patterns. After 35 years of his stale Schtick, I would have hoped he upped his game instead of rumbling, bumbling, stumbling filling his sentences in with ehrr. It's lazy and it drives me nuts. Oh and some of these College Students playing football, do you want to know the ones who went to class? They don't say "ya know" to fill in their sentences or bridge everything together with "and um". Class this missed, literally.

ESPN- For the brave - every time stock is mentioned take a sip equal to two fingers on your glass ...trust me...this is a final nail in a coffin.

NFL- Dancing bear. oh, i cant get mad at mayock.

As for berman, i remember reading a few years ago that he was trying to weasel his way in to the hall as a contributor to the sport or something, if that happens, fire up all the caddy's

How about Florida State Seminoles in general, going on sour on many of them, minus Brooks. Winston is a privileged thug and he is another character with no character. Smith and Jones tested + for pot, IDIOTS.

Kelvin Benjamin, no disprespect to I think it's Baramy who really likes him, his game has too many holes to be selected at 15. Can he be coached up, sure, does he want to be, that is the 20 Million Dollar question. I say no. The Florida State kids I really like are the DB's Brooks and Joyner. Yeah ok Joyner is 5-8 but he's a Football player and Bob Sanders was also 5 ft. 8. Speaking of... the other short corner Verrett, he's going to be good, and one more shorter CB, Victor Hampton, he is one of those kids that is first to practice and last to leave.

A lot of us our sour on Kyle Fuller at 15, why. Because NFL draftscout Walter Football, and Draftek have him rated in the late 20's or 30's. Mayock has him as his top CB, opinions vary. These are draft sites with general information, they don't have the Bill Nunn's (RIP) out there taking notes and finding young men to fit their team. Tomlin likea Va., Tech players, Jason Worilds comes to mind. Later on don't crap a sailboat if they select James Gayle. I happen to like him over the stiff from Texas, Jeffcoat. Sorry don't have time to fix my board if I got that wrong. Not even sure I have Jeffcoat, to be honest, been a crazy winter.

Fuller reminds me of Kyle wilson, relatively late riser, ok tape, average across the board but doesnt scream mid first rounder, i think there is enough talent in the middle rounds to pick someone up and coach them if the need should arise than gambiling on a kid like Fuller. I dont like the assessment that Dennard has hit his ceiling, i dont think such a thing exists for players outside the NFL, he can learn a lot from coaches and teams, and i think he will become a polished starter in the league- gilbert reminds of that guy last year who slid hard but always had the talent and people were not sure about, his name escapes me right now...begins with J...one sec while i go look this up

EDIT: Janoris jenkins. thats the one. also holy poop that 2012 draft class is good on CB's, thats a draft where i want a CB. this one..eh...not so much

As for berman, i remember reading a few years ago that he was trying to weasel his way in to the hall as a contributor to the sport or something, if that happens, fire up all the caddy's

more like fire up the Sherman's as in tanks. He is a pompous, loud, obnoxious, jack-off of biblical proportions. His contributions are what exactly. He was a Pioneer of what exactly? ESPN is cash cow, a revenue making corporate sellout who pushes the right buttons for it's advertisers. They offer very little insight into anything NFL , with a few exceptions. I respect the former players who are employed there, but in general they blow as analysts. ESPN targets loud and opinionated personalities to promote ratings, not give out information, it's as obvious as the hooked nose on Johnny Asshat's face. Which by the way, if he fails in the NFL, he can work as a bottle opener at a local tavern.

On the topic of manziel, I have a running bet on right now that if he starts week 1, he will be injured in some capacity by week 4. Not to say I wish ill on the guy but I just think someone, if not everyone, is going to play contain, make him look like a deer in the head lights( see lsu game) then break him in half as he stands there being crushed by 270pound linebackers

What do you want to see tonight/this weekend?

Here are my 10 observations/things I'd like to see...

    1) I'd like to 4 OT's taken before #15
    2) I'd like to see 3 QB's taken before #15
    3) Add in Clowney, Watkins, Evans, Mack - before #15 - we ought to get a nice player at #15...
    4) Like to see a RB late or UDF.. In the mock going on this site.. J.White from wisconsin fell out of the draft - what a nice UFA he would make
    5) Want to see 3 starters and 4 depth players from this class.. either picks or UFA - BIG draft for the steelers - need potential starters... and added depth
    6) Love some of the small school kids and hopefully we continue to not overlook them.. see A.Brown
    7) Best case for me is to move back off of #15 into the 20's and get a 3rd rounder... nice depth in this draft and value in the 3rd
    8) Go back and look at the 30 players that visited the Steelers - odds are a couple will be wearing Black and Gold
    9) We will draft a taller WR.... What round? my guess the 2nd
    10) We will draft 2 DB

    What you got?

    enjoy,

I have the same thoughts about Marqis Lee, he will be inured by week 5. Someone was protesting my call on Johnny Dipwap, saying he's 5-11 210 as big as some WR's. Okay sure Skippy, let's break down some film. I see a WR being tackled by a 200 lb. Safety, and a QB being hit from the blind side by a 340 lb. NT. Big Ben is built like a TE, Johnny Dipshcitt is built like a WR, do the freiking math.
