Yeah as in he looked the part as an NFL
    #1 WR.

Brown-Wheaton-Robinson will give Ben multiple reads

Pick 97 looking at BPA but there are 5-6 players that could be there thT I would pull
    The trigger on.

  3. NY u left out "away" so I was a little confused lol

NY, great draft so far! Dennard and Robinson, If rounds 1 and 2 actually go this way I would be a Happy fan. I think there will be multiple 3-4 DE's on the board when we pick in the 3rd, I would tend to lean that way.

Did you guys see that Danielle Jeremiah has the Steelers taking Roby at #15...........Are you nucking futs! This is by far the worst pick I've seen in a mock from anyone, Roby is a RD 2 borderline 3 player. I know we do tend to shop at Ohio St but #15 is way too early, doesn't this kid have a lot of red flags?

NY, are you guys doing Undrafted FA's in this too?

    Yawin Smallwood - UConn
Pierre Desir - Lindenwood (Tomlin and Colbert have always doubled up on positions in every draft and CB has been done twice)
    C.J. Fiedorowicz - Iowa

based on some stuff I read and that he can be a body catcher... Had an awesome pro day... So did the kid from Vandy... My opinion (and I'm never correct... :) ) we can wait on a WR - very deep draft at WR

    enjoy,

Updating the list of players with whom the Steelers have had multiple contacts. We know that the Steelers often draft players they have brought in for visits. Also interesting is how many contacts they make.

S Calvin Pryor - Combine, visit

WR Kelvin Benjamin - Combine, Pro Day

You don't have to convince me about the Seahawks, I was in the running for a scouting position 1 1/2 years ago with the team. Although I did not win the position I was writing scouting reports for the GM. In fact, last year I suggested the Steelers were in a good position to transition to their style of defense and a 4-3 and it was largely shot down. Funny what can change in one year. I would say the Steelers should transition completely to the 4-3 to get the full benefit of the defense. You have to get pressure up the middle against the elite QBs and the 3-4 has trouble doing that.
Look at the difficulties of drafting and developing 3-4 players. You need OLB that can pass rush, stop the run and play zone coverage, instead of DE that don't need coverage skills. Most top OLBs are going in the top half of the 1st rd now instead of falling to the 2nd or later. With 3-4 DEs you need them to play two gap on run plays and then kick inside and expect them to get after the QB. It takes too much time to develop these players and you miss too often. (Ziggy Hood)
To convert to a Seahawk type defense you need:
Hayward at LDE McClendon at 3 tech Thomas at 1-tech and Worilds as your floating pass rusher. You use Jones as a situational rusher. Kick Heyward inside and draft a DT undersided pass rusher maybe Easley or Martin in the 2nd rd. Timmons at MLB, Spence at WLB, and see if Williams can be your SLB. Dennard is drafted 1st rd and you draft a big nickel CB in the 4th or 5th like Walt Aikens or Antone Exum.
A complete change in one draft, if the Steelers would wish to go that route.

If you don't you might be able to get Beau Allen NT, Wisconsin with the 5th rd comp pick. He is very under the radar, showed a lot of explosiveness at his pro day. Those guys in the trenches at Wisconsin are as strong as bears.

For a quality big receiver few have been drafted outside the first two rounds, historically. This year could be different with a deep class, some could slide into the 3rd. Without a 3rd rd pick the Steelers will need to make it happen in the 1st or 2nd round. I only see about 3-4 big receivers in this draft coming out and making a name for themselves. That would be Evans, Moncrief, 50/50 on Robinson and Mathews. Bryant could be a late developer at the end of his contract and that is about it. No I do not like Benjamin, he has too many drops and is not a good route runner. I see him having a ceiling of Dwayne Bowe (whom I am not wild about) and a floor of Jonathan Baldwin. Granted I have never interviewed him, he might have great work ethic to improve but I believe he is overhyped.

I like Fiedorowicz too. I think he has underestimated athleticism, he can get down the seam well enough, he was just not used that way in college. It might be strange to take two offensive players day two but the team could go defense with the next 3.

I'm not a big fan of moving away from the 3-4, but I agree that the personnel is pretty much there to do it. In many ways, I don't think the Steelers are a true 3-4 defense anymore anyways. They play so little out of their base defense, is it really accurate to call it a 3-4? I think I saw a stat that had the Steelers in sub-packages almost 60% of the snaps last year. Now, that was probably inflated due to there being so many injuries to the front 7, but still, that's alot of sub-package play!

I also think that they can take full advantage of the press bail cover 3 principles that the Seahawks used in the Superbowl just as effectively out of the 3-4 as they can from a 4-3. The pressure up the middle is a key to the defense, but Lebeau's zone blitz is effective because the pressure can come from anywhere, including the middle. I think the reason the Steelers were happy to have McLendon at NT was for that very reason...he's capable of providing more pass rush up the middle than our traditional nose tackles have been.

I tend to agree with you. Truthfully Carun Reid & Brent Urban are both slipping toward the 5-6 round range. I have 2 DE's & 2 DT's that I want but I won't reach. If a LB. S. Or CB is there I will go Defense @ 97 most likely. I think I'm going to wait on RB until at least the 5th

Since there is no official board I looked @ Draftek 26th & Draftscout 34th for Allen Robinson. Taking him @ 46 was a value pick .

It's not that I think it cannot work in a 3-4, its just easier to draft for the 4-3. One part of why Seattle has drafted well, they draft for their defense. 3-4 teams have to project players into their defense at DE and OLB, who were formerly DT and DE in college.

This is a good point. Years ago, this wasn't so risky because so few teams used the 3-4, so those undersized DTs that we liked for DE and the undersized DEs that we liked for OLB were more available in the later rounds, lessening the risk. Now, you have so many teams using the 3-4 that those projected tweeners are skyrocketing up draft boards and that makes them a bigger risk. I mean, would anybody be upset with Jarvis Jones' rookie season if he had been a 3rd round pick last year? Of course not, and as little as 10 years ago that's probably where he would have gone. Instead, they had to take the bigger risk and draft him in the first round.

Same goes for Ziggy Hood...would anyone have thought of him as a bust if the Steelers had taken him in round 5 instead of the end of round 1? Probably his projected round in 2000.

I think if he had been taken any time after pick 32 nobody would complain.

BTSC is a good site, however they are a little thick in the head and stubborn. They said no OL other than Robinson or Matthews unless they have a 6th round grade or higher. They went on to rate Pierre Desir as a second rounder and Jimmy Ward as a 6th. They also down-graded any Safety because of the Mitchell signing. I am calling bull.shit. Why then would they buy a plane ticket for Deonne Buchannon?? They don;t even have Zack Martin on their board, or anyone other than Johnny Wannabe from Bumphuc-East Jabru Acadamey. They rely too heavily on some sites, aka Bleacher, JMFO. I will stand by what I saw, Yawin Smallwood is a solid ILB and is more talented than Sio Moore, who the Raiders absolutely love, and someone who sacked Ben in 2013. They also have no NT prostpects per se, just some 5 techniques. I am with Baramy,, like Beau Allen late, and the kid out of Arkansas State will be drafted, not sure where. They do have McCullers, boy I am telling you, I don't want him on our board. He is slower and less talented that Mt. Cody who was a huge bust for Baltimore.

I will have to eat some crow if Beckham is the pick at 15, I just don't see the value when this class is loaded with WR. Hoever, if they move back into the 20's, then I might buy it. Re Jerimiah: If Roby is a top 15 pick, then Jared Aberderis must be a top ten, 'cause he not only stole his lunch money, he ate his Dad's Breakfast and cashed his paycheck.

In that collaborative, Tuitt and Yannkey went bang bang right afterwards. BTSC has a point about need, value, and grading, but Colbert is less stringent. I think Haggeman is a good pick if they trade back, or he slides, other than that most sites and myself giving him a late first round grade seems to be accurrate.
