Steelers Draft and Mel Kiper sucks thread!!

Is Barr worth trading in front of Tennessee to get? Detroit might be a trade partner. They have no use for Barr and there should be a quality corner at 15. The cost would be trading the 46th for the 76th, and 1st rd picks. Or maybe if Tennessee is slightly desperate a 4th, 6th and 4th next year. The depth this year makes a 4th round pick more valuable.
I think this would be worthwhile because Pro Bowl caliber OLB is what makes a 3-4 defense click. When you see defenses like Green Bay and Dallas fall apart without Mathews and Ware (at 100%), it becomes evident. Pass rushers can often perform well in their rookie season and Barr could catapult Pittsburgh back to a top 10 defense by 2015 if not sooner.

There's no way in HELL we are trading up in the 1st, we'll take what falls to us when we are on the clock. Later rounds are more of a possibility because of the comp picks.

Diamonds in the Rough has the Steelers picking Hageman from Minnesota in the 1st round. They have all their 1st round picks changed around. He's a Nose Tackle for those that don't know. They have Dennard and Robinson dropping back later in the round. And Bortles, who's supposed to go 1st among QB's is listed as being taken behind the other two. Their mock draft is kind of weird compared to all of the others....

  6. Baramay Guest

My draft based on who is available:
15th- Mike Evans The biggest failing among tall WRs is dropped passes. http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/cfb/46006/349/peshek-top-4-wr-metrics Rotoworld had a good write up on WRs. Evans has natural hands only 4.29% drops while having 25%+ of his passes deep, when a QB would be less accurate. To me there are only 3 quality tall WR Evans, Moncrief, and maybe Mathews.
46th- Kyle Fuller I don't think he falls this far but if he does, I take him.
97th- Smallwood Did not have a drop off after Sio Moore left for the NFL.
118th- Hurst OT Might need to go on temp IR, gives the team options next year with Gilbert.
157th- White I like the stiff arm when he gets outside against guys in the secondary
173rd- Ellis DT Fills a team need at NT

I am partial to Radar Love.

I liked Haggeman early on bit his inconsistencies led me to devalue him. He has upside but he's a classic 5 technique not a NT. Nix III he's a NT.

I think they had Nix III going to the Cowboys right in front of the Steelers.....

A trade with Chicago to move up 2 spots ?

  10. nybites M.V.P. Steelers UCONN

I looked into draft diamonds 2 round mock: a lot if issues. Too many early CB & WR. They whiffed badly on fitting players to teams. Gave PIT & BAL 3 technique DT's. I did like Tuitt to NE & Gabe Jackson, Antonio Richardson and JuWann James early with OC Richburg & Martin coming off. But ...,, way too early for Desir and no Morgan Moses? What is the
Man crush on Jack Mewhort??? I do not have the eye that bb does for OL but I have the Senior Bowl Practices and game on DVR and sorry folks he got whooped early and often. Moses stood out, Richburg stood out, that's how I saw things .

because I am thorough on this, I watched The Senior Bowl again. Dee Ford went around PewFart like a pylon, then a play or two later he had to hook a DE, might have been Michael Sam. He sucks ass, no thankyou.

Some of the WR in that game, I'll stand by my mock, I though Norwood had a nice game, and he's not shy on contact,, He's a Steeler type of WR. The kid that is intriguing is out of Oklahomna, Jalen Saunders, he is 5 foot nothing weighs 160 lbs. in the rain, but man he's got a second gear. Confirming the arm of Derek Carr also,, miles ahead of AJ McCarren. I got AJ going 4th round, I really don't give two shitts about all his wins, he's on a semi-pro team playing college kids. His arm is suspect and the decision to not participate in the Senior Bowl was a bad move.. I read he may of had an injury, but to me he was listineing to his agent, like a lot of the other top QB's who skip the Senior Bowl. They are afraid of getting injured and losing money. To me Carr smoked past him and Garappolo got to meet, greet, and compete in front of 32 teams. Class this missed.

Revisited some of the guys I liked, confirmed that. Kirksey I may have to move up a little and Deonne Buchannon if he's there at 46 I'm all in. Inciidently, Mewhort was at RT when he was toasted like a Marshallow, and the coaches put Morgan Moses in at LT over him. LIke I said, confirms what I saw in the practices and in the actual game.

BTSC has an interesting big board, maybe they know more than me,, but not about Yawin Smallwood. They called him a 2 down linebacker, I am not sure how much time they put into film but they are BS-ing their way through the evaluation, JMFO. They got a lot right, but I think theyt have Desir too low and I have similar grades on Smallwood and Desir, both of whom I would grab at 97. The thing you see right about Desir, watch him take to coaching, he listens, he learns, he makes corrections. He is one of those kids that will tansition to the NFL from Division II and appears to be a real hard worker.

Re the WR... Another WR that I have been hearing about and that is on the upward is the kid from Indiana - A big ten school not known for throwing the ball - Cody Latimoore He's over 6'2" and can run 4.43 40. projected early day 3 prospect... As with Norwood from Bama.. there are a lot of day 2-3 WR in this draft and another reason I'm not high on drafting one at #15... Currently the Steelers have 4 CB's scheduled in for a visit and it would not surprise me if they look at another 2-4 CB's in their 30 visits.. We will be drafting CB(s) somewhere in this draft and highly probable that's the pick at #15. WR - we can wait - unless its Watkins - and he aint getting out of the top ten - maybe wont get out of the top 5...

    enjoy,

  14. Latimer reminds me of Cotchery, a bit stiff and not very elusive or electric but a reliable tough yards picker-upper.

  15. burghball Guest

Yeah and he can CATCH - That would be my FIRST priority when looking at a WR - And I'd rather see the Steelers (Mann) spend time on developing a player that has potential.. a Draft pick.. than spending time trying to fix a problem that several other teams could not.. Plus Bey will take rep from someone that would better be served with them. Someone has a major Ego - the front office or Mann - that thinks they can fix a guy (Bey) that has numerous issues catching the football... not a good move - and no I'm not "overly excited" just calling this for what I see it as.. A stupid move.

    enjoy,

    one of the idiots

  16. I don't agree he's going to take balls away from someone, there will be plenty of balls to go around (calm yourself there ManO :p ) and if they draft a guy like Latimer they will make sure he gets his fair share of opportunities. Like I said on the other thread, to me signing DHB is no different than signing some no name fast guy with bad hands.

  19. Baramay Guest

Special teams? Also doesn't the defense still have to respect his deep speed which can open up underneath routes? You cannot just say that guy can't catch and let him run past you. Even a guy with bad hands catches about 80% of catchable balls. Maybe we end up with a Robin Williams catch from "The Best of Times" as a highlight reel. If there is not a bonus, he is just a camp body at this point.

  20. Need camp bodies and competition, especially since this team does not have a guy like that to keep defenses honest. I see nothing wrong with adding a really fast guy with size to a camp try-out. There is nothing but upside with this, however small it may be.
