Oh I trust ny with the draft too, that was the extent of my draft scouting, but if ny says he's worth a 3rd round, that's plenty good for me lol

It could be unlikely anyhow, but I'll flip tables if we end up picking Lewan.

  5. As would I

Dumervil and Ware should count as players added from other teams. It should be irrelevant if they became free agents due to an expiring contract or being cut. I am not suggesting a team who cuts a player be compensated only that any player you sign should be balanced against those you lose.

I agree with this. It seems like Baltimore added more pieces, some of the pieces taken away were damaged goods. In a fair market system, all commodities are added up and a value is given as compensation. As the way Goodell runs things, were lucky Hoodie and Ozzie don't get all the comp picks. *REF*

I see a deep CB classs, the world does not end if Gilbert and Dennard are gone. I personally would pass on Lewan and take Martin. Fundamentally more sound, position flexible. Lewan is more of a rock star, Martin is more of a lunchpail guy.

Ebron no thanks. On your second job interview you stand on your inflated resume, and then drop the ball, literally. Don't discount Haggeman, they could have him in their top 15. They were in the mettings, heck maybe Minnesota has some lame azz coaches. I am luke warm on Nix, but there could be worse picks. I am not a fan of Dix, similar to Cox. *CRAZY* This whole, they could trade back scenario is partially valid. It depends on the trade partner, and who is left on the board. I think we all know that this draft is deep, finding trading partners may or may not be as easy as recent years. Me personally I stay put and worse case you add depth now, a future starter later.

I look at mocks daily, and some have Evans going 7th some have him going 17th. So what is possible, it remains to be seen. Before we lock onto Denanrd, Gilbert, and Evans, think outside the box. Our board and all the draft sites we study, will NEVER going to match up to Colbert and Tomlin's board.

With all the activity in free agency, the Steelers are aware that they don't have tons of wiggle room on the roster for draft picks anymore. The roster is right where it needs to be before the draft. My point is, I almost guarantee a trade-down scenario isn't happening because they'd risk actually having too many draft picks as a result.

The Steelers theoretically have room for 2 RBs (or 1 RB and 1 KR), 1 WR, 1 OT, 1 OG, 2 DEs, 1 NT, 1 LB (depends on where they want to play Moats, my guess is outside), 1 CB, and 1 P. That's 11 roster holes and 9 draft picks with which to fill them. That's a good position, because it allows future flexibility with both veteran and rookie free agents and gives one or two UDFAs a legitimate chance to make the team. I would be surprised if the Steelers decide to upset that in any way between now and the draft.

  10. As of 2day...they will not select Ebron....Im thinking Mosely, Gilbert or Barr

Don't sweat Baltimore's comp picks. The last time they made one count it was a punter (Koch). Ozzie is outstanding at building a roster by using all means necessary (trade, free agency). He's been average in the draft over the last 10 years.

The play of Landry Jones is one of the more intriguing things to watch at camp this year. Big, strong guy who played mostly in the shotgun at Oklahoma so couldn't read defenses for crap coming into the NFL. Prior to his senior season at Oklahoma he worked out with George Whitfield. He took his spring break and the only other off week he had between school and football and did two-a-days with GW. The guy wants to be great, puts the time in and is pretty smart if you believe Whitfield. Here's a pretty good Q&A with GW on Landry Jones:

"If I?m a Sooner fan, I?m excited. When you look at it, the only two real weeks he had off in this offseason ? and I mean off from workouts, off from class ? the only two weeks that truly belonged to him, he invested it right back in his own skill-set and aforementioned preparation. And I?m not talking work a day, golf a day, work a day. He probably put in two dozen workouts on his own, with each workout going 90 minutes to two hours. And again, not just throwing routes, but working, training, grinding and splitting hairs and each intricacy that we could possibly find, slow-mo, freeze frame and all that stuff."

Not sure if Jones is working out with Whitfield again this off season but if he shows anything this year in camp he could become our backup QB. Releasing Gradkowski would free up about 1.3M. Doesn't sound like much until you realize that's just about what they needed for Moore and Blount.

I agree and the guy clearly wants to work. That's why I'm so intrigued.

p.s. He was taken in the 4th round last year and there were several players we really liked as a group available at that spot.

Look we can view, formulate, and create mocks, but it's never going to mirror the draft. Kiper is so bad at mocks, I think he's been banned from every discernible fan.

Every year there's a surprise, someone we thing is good, they suck, and a guy rated in the 300's on draftscout goes in the 3rd round. One guy rated well to low on CBS is the OG from LSU, I have to move him up a few notches, I think he's only a Jr. and he has size and footwork.

I have to redo a lot of my mock, specifically not give the Browns Cyril Ridhardson, who will never fit the zone scheme they are going to roll out this year. Also not sure if Billy Turner is a good pick for Balt. and N.E. just resigned an OC for 2 years. Taking a Center at the end of two will have to be changed. There are other teams, like NO, CHI, WASH, who really need one.

  17. To further that point, we also have to think about the unpredictability of what other team do. Some of these trade ups we never see coming. SF trade up for Eric Reid? Dolphins for Dion Jordan? Steelers for Santonio Holmes? Not to mention the classic WTF picks that no one gets, like Alualu to the Jags or Bruce Irvin to the Seahawks.

I don't think anyone would have imagined the Steelers landing DeCastro.

  18. nybites M.V.P. Steelers UCONN

He said unpredictable, not impossibilities. *NO* I got Watkins as a top 5 player, a game changer, he's one of a half dozen you view in each drafts as "special" and I cannot see him getting out of the top 5, top 7 at the worst. Barr @ 15, on the other hand, ,that is unlikely but possible.

  19. gidion72 Legend Steelers

If Watkins is as good as everyone says he is noway will we be able to sign him to a second contract.

  20. Baramay Guest

There is always a way to work a contract. I would be happy to have AB and Watkins for the next 5 years. After that you would have to decide who to keep. Watkins will have a contract of less than 15 mil over 4 years. Add another at a transition price if he is that good. Following that maybe a contract averaging 16 mil/year if he is a top 5 guy. 12 mil each of the first two years, 16 mil each of the next 3, and final 20 mil each of the last two. The total contract would be 7 years for 112 mil

Have a signing bonus of 15 million, a 8 mil roster bonus year 3 and the first two years guaranteed.

year 1- 9 mil base salary, and 3mil bonus
year 2- 9 mil base salary, and 3 mil bonus
year 3- 5 mil base salary, 3 mil bonus and 8 mil roster bonus
year 4- 13 mil base salary, 3 mil bonus
year 5- 13 mil base salary, 3 mil bonus
year 6- 20 mil base salary
year 7- 20 mil base salary

Guaranteed money is a whopping 41 million, which means more to players and agent in todays market than a contract they might never see. The deal without the last two seasons would be worth 5years for 72 million or 14.4 per year. The roster bonus protects the team in case of sever injury and at the same time the team would not wish to cut a top player instead of paying a fair contract. In year 4 the player might have mutual interest in renegotiating for less base and more guaranteed when he is about 30 years old. The team can cut the player if he starts to decline after year 5 and age 32 with no cap hits. The numbers might be slightly higher in 2019 depending on the salary cap, they might be up to 20% higher.
