Steelers Draft and Mel Kiper sucks thread!!

Discussion in 'Pittsburgh Steelers' started by Steelroc74, Mar 24, 2013.

  1. Nice list bb, though my hope is they don't even grab a guard in this draft if they can bring back Velasco and/or Wallace, plus Embernasty in waiting. I'll try to get my lists up tonight.

  2. Walter now has Bortles going #1 overall.

Thanks sb.. I need to go back and edit the OG list and add the kid from Neveda... He's a OT/OG - might be better suited at the guard spot... I'm with ya - hoping we dont need to draft a OG

In the past we've included everyone in our Big Board but for our individual positional rankings we ranked based on scheme fit. For example, Clowney will be in the Top 5 of our big board but won't appear in our individual OLB and DE rankings because he doesn't fit in either.

    Roc,

I go by size of player. 6-4 275 is a DE, 6-2 250 is an OLB,some thing like that. They like they're OLB's shorter than other teams, Worilds is 6-3 and he's the tallest.

yeah of the 94 juniors that declared, if 80 of them got invited, then 14 made a DUMB decision. Anyone recall the QB from Ole Miss coming out as a Jr., wasn't even drafted and he did nothing in camp. I'm seeing more and more articles that say the Texans will take Bortels or Johnny Futballs. Reports are some teams don't see Bridgewater as a franchise QB. Whatever happens I don't want to see the Browns get Bridgewater.

Bortles reminds me of just a little better version of Christian Ponder coming out of college.

Johnny Futball is going to be fantastic until he gets destroyed trying to run one to many times. His mentality is going to have to change to make it long term. I don't think he's capable of thinking like Russell Wilson.

Bridgewater is mobile enough. He's already been playing in a pro style offense and is an extremely accurate passer. He is a football junkie according to his coach. Lives in the film room. Not the guy I want to see in Cleveland throwing to Josh Gordon. I was a fan of Russell Wilson after watching him in college. Bridgewater reminds me of a little taller version of Wilson. Not quite as strong of an arm but more accurate in the short to mid range areas.

  17. nybites M.V.P. Steelers UCONN

New player in @ 15 Calvin Pryor FS Louisville. I like him better than Dix and he might
Also be higher on Colbert's board. Seeing how Colbert attended the Rutgers -Louisville game. People "assumed" it was for Bridgewater. *ROSE* of course that was back when their record had them picking top. 5.

  18. Here's my initial QB list:

    1. Teddy Bridgewater, Louisville
    2. Blake Bortles, UCF
    3. Johnny Manziel, TAMU
    4. Derek Carr, Fresno State
    5. Zach Mettenberger, LSU
    6. Jimmy Garoppolo, Eastern Illinois
    7. Tajh Boyd, Clemson
    8. AJ McCarron, Alabama
    9. David Fales, San Jose State
    10. Brett Smith, Wyoming
    11. Aaron Murray, Georgia
    12. Connor Shaw, South Carolina
    13. Keith Wenning, Ball State
    14. Keith Price, Washington
    15. Tom Savage, Pitt
    16. Jeff Matthews, Cornell
    17. Logan Thomas, Virginia Tech
    18. Stephen Morris, Miami
    19. Garrett Gilbert, SMU
    20. Casey Pachell, TCU

Notable unranked: Bryn Renner, UNC. Jordan Lynch, Northern Illinois, James Franklin, Missouri. Tommy Rees, Notre Dame

I'm working on a much more in depth analysis of them but until it is finished here is a preliminary list.

  19. For example:

    1. Teddy Bridgewater, Louisville: Looks like the surest bet to be a franchise quarterback out of the entire draft class, however is not on the same caliber as an Andrew Luck in 2012 or Cam Newton in 2011. His arm is very good, however is not the cannon that Newton?s is. He has enough mobility to be good on rollouts and the occasional scramble, however is not as good a runner as Newton or Luck and his 6?2? 205lbs frame will keep him from being a true dual threat QB. This will likely not be a problem, though, as he only rushed the ball 34 times in 2013 compared to 241 rushes in Newton?s final year at Auburn or Robert Griffin?s 138 rushes his senior year at Baylor. Even with his small frame, Bridgewater does not waver in the pocket in the face of pressure and will hang tough to deliver a pass, even while being hit. Despite not having an arm as strong as Newton?s, Bridgewater comes out of college with much more polish. He still has a very good arm and should not have a problem completing the deep pass, as well as very good overall accuracy and is smart with the football. In 2013 he had a 71% completion rate, 3,970 yards, 31 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. What really has helped get his stock up, however, was his performance in his two most recent bowl games. In the 2013 Sugar Bowl he led Louisville over heavy favorite #4 Florida going 20/36 with 226 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against one of college football?s top defenses. In his final game, the 2013 Russell Athletic Bowl against Miami, he dazzled going 35-45 with 447 yards and 4 touchdowns and a 30-9 record.
    Projection: Top 10 pick

Here's a kid to watch - a combine snub.... Will be intersting to read your analysis of Brett.
