Steelers Draft and Mel Kiper sucks thread!!

  1. I don't care about his size, I'm going to be pushing hard for Dri Archer. This team could really use a Darren Sproles on offense, not to mention his returnability.

It may make me Al Davis Jr but I'm looking hard for playmakers on offense and game changing speed is an attribute of this.

A couple of camp invites, late round Diamonds in the rough. Texas Tech WR Eric Ward. San Jose State LB/SS Kevin Smith.

I started out watching FSU and quickly changed to a more competive game. A guy I had mentioned made a real nice play, Dion Bailey as USC stunned Stanford.

Even if Ohio State and Florida State win out, FSU will be playing 'Bama for the title, they're that good. They have speed, size, and talent all up and down the roster.

  4. I mentioned Williams last week as a riser and lo and behold he has an even bigger game. Watch list for sure.

SB, as far as Dri Archer goes, I'm on board he only needed 2 blocks and had to make 1 guy miss and he was off to the races. The only thing I don't like is taking the ball out of Bell's hands on third down because Bell is a complete back and has proved it time and time again. He would serve a good purpose, a nice change of pace back, has nice hands, and will take brown off of KR duties.

This is also the same reason why I like Justin Gilbert, plays CB, which is a position we're lacking in, leads the nation in return yardage or close to it, and has started at CB for OK.ST. for the last couple years.

Last week I did a mock and BPA was Khalil Mack in the first round. How more likely is that now that we've won again? If (IF) we keep this up, we might have to kiss our top 10 pick aspirations goodbye.

I have some questions for the draft community at large.

Bradley Roby, yay or nay? Yay because the Ohio State defense means miminal transition to ours. He's also fast and would be a great Torrey Smith counter post-Ike Taylor. Nay because of some character concerns and the fact that he's getting torched on a regular basis this year (though I would say not much more often than Taylor has this year).

Trench guys to watch: Alabama OG Anthony Steen and Arkansas State NT Ryan Carrethers. Steen is an unheralded player on the 'Bama line which has been as star-studded as the American flag, but he's a great run-blocker who can play man- or zone-blocking. He needs to work on his pass protection, but he's also durable and has plenty of experience backing up starters on Bama's line in years past. Could be nice depth. Carrethers is simply the type of low, wide player we seem to really need in the middle of the DL, and he can be good enough right away to compete for the starting NT spot (considering only the Browns have a great center position among our division rivals). McLendon could possibly work better as a DE.

Here's a new tentative mock draft:

    1. Louis Nix, NT, Notre Dame
    2. Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech
    3. Anthony Steen, OG, Alabama
    4. Yawin Smallwood, ILB, Connecticut
    5A. Morgan Moses, OT, Virginia
5B. LaDarius Perkins, RB, Mississippi State
    6. Isaiah Crowell, RB, Alabama State
    7. Taylor Hart, DE, Oregon

UDFA. Kirby Van Der Kamp, P, Iowa State
    UDFA. Zach Kerr, NT, Delaware

Don't we have enough of these guys already!! If anything since the NFL is becoming more pass-freindly so to speak we should be drafting the opposite. A player who needs to work on Run-blocking but is polished in pass protection.

If they do go NT in the first. Does that mean McLendon moves over to DE opposite of Heyward. And also, does that mean the end of Keisel?

I am not ecstatic about Nix, I see BJ Raji all over again ( over-hyped) the two DTs in the first 5 rounds I'm sold on: raShede Hageman, Shamar Stephen

Smallwood May not get out of the second round.

Moses is a mountain but a guy who reminds me of Larry Warford is Gabe Jackson, anyone catch Joique Bell running behind War Daddy? It was awesome as a draft guy, not so much as a Steeler fan. :(
As far as RB two guys I like: Bishop Sankey. Andre Williams. UFA I like Alfred Blue

Brady doesn't seem to have much success against the Panthers. I guess they employ the Giants method of shutting him down.

This week's draft is the one I made that I don't like as much, but it could happen if we end up falling out of the top 10. If Walter Cherepinksky is correct in his draft order (where we pick 8th overall), it could look more like this:

    1. Khalil Mack, ILB, Buffalo
    2. Antonio Richardson, OT, Tennessee
    3. Anthony Steen, OG, Alabama
    4. Antone Exum, CB, Virginia Tech
5A. Ryan Carrethers, NT, Arkansas State
    5B. Ameer Abdullah, RB/KR, Nebraska
    6. Isaiah Crowell, RB, Alabama State
    7. Taylor Hart, DE, Oregon

I like this one a little better. Of course, this is largely taking BPA into account. The other one I made focused on need.

So many "Anthony" variations here. I didn't realize that until I wrote it down. %)

Nix is the only NT they could pick in the first. I'm with NY in that I think he's a lukewarm prospect undeserving of his high ranking. We could get better value later. My favorite is Da'Quan Jones, who currently is somewhere in the large gap between our 2nd rounder and our comp. pick in the 3rd round. I really like Carrethers, though. He seems like another Casey Hampton to me.

If we pick Nix, it almost certainly means a McLendon transfer to the edge is in store, but I think that may happen anyway. We stand to lose lots of depth at DE in the offseason. Keisel and Hood may both be gone. Carrethers and a UDFA like Zack Kerr would also ensure a McLendon move to the edge in such a scenario.

We also have on our roster already Nick Williams (IR) and Brian Arnfelt <----like this one alot.

I suspect that Hood will be a player the Steelers can resign without breaking the bank. I think they will make every resonable effort to keep him.

Keisel is probably playing his last season. There is a point when the body starts to give out. We saw it with Aaron Smith. Keisel is still the best DE on the roster when he's healthy. His body is just reaching a point where it's not going to let him.

I'd love to see the Steelers get a real 3-4 NG in this draft. Nix is a guy that I was really high on last season. He hasn't been the player he was and it sounds like he's suffering from knee tendonitis. It will be interesting to see where he ends getting picked.

Um, no he's not. Cam Heyward is.

  17. nybites M.V.P. Steelers UCONN

I agree with Demo, Heyward is in beast mode. Ziggy played a helluva game and McClendon was the one who stripped the ball on the fake FG. Jones & Worlds also played well. Allen shut down their #2 more or less. Curtis Brown continues to hold value on punt coverage . So glad the Cowboys gave up on Will Allen ;) what a p1ss poor collection of inept talent evaluators they have.

I did not forget About DaQuan Jones I just think he falls between 45-95where we have Jack Schitt for picks.

Keisel is better against the run. According to the Post-Gazzete old man Keisel leads the team in QB pressures this season. When he's healthy he is the guy that starts on the right side. There is a reason he starts there over the young guys.

Has anybody seen much of DT Ra'shede Hageman from Minnesota. I watched him a little earlier in the season. Minnesota plays Wisconsin this week. Wisconsin has got a very good O Line. It will be a good game to evaluate Hageman.

FYI - Steelers signed ex Pitt RB Ray Graham to the Practice squad.

    enjoy,

I think the player you want is Brent Urban, and he seems like a great fit for our defense!

I like the fact that there could be a 6-7 DE out on the edge to make WR screens that much more difficult to complete.
