Steelers Draft and Mel Kiper sucks thread!!

  1. Mariotta faced the closest thing to a pro defense last night and did better than I thought. You can see the tools are there but I agree on him staying another year.

  2. Quick first mock attempt

    1. Jake Matthews-Steelers land their bookend tackle
    2. Da'Quan Jones-Went back and forth hard between him and the other Matthews but I think they'll opt to rebuild the defensive line and move McLendon into Keisel's old spot.
CR3-Quandre Diggs-Team has a lack of ball hawkers and he could help change that
    4. Dri Archer-He's small but fast and productive. Team has lacked game changing speed since Wallace left and gives them a change of pace back with Bell. He's what they thought Felix Jones would be.
    5. L'Damian Washington-Yeah yeah yeah I'm a homer but this year he's shown off his 6'3" size and sub 4.40 speed. I think he'll rise
CR5-Greg Blue-I'm getting into a less familiar territory so I'll take a page of out nyb's playbook. I liked what I saw on limited tape of him.
    6. Kirby Van Der Kamp-Just a hunch but they're probably sick of the revolving door at punter.
    7. Asante Cleveland-Another page out of the nyb book.

DraftScout has Mariota too high. This run on QBs has been ridiculous in recent years. Soon, mock drafts will be giving 15 teams a QB in the first round.

I really like it. Dri Archer is a speed demon. On the smallish side but think of a Dexter McCluster type of guy. Just get him on the field and he becomes a threat to score every time he touches the ball.

I thought this was supposed to the year where you could get a good Defensive Nose Tackle or Lineman in the mid rounds because there were so many good ones coming out? Something has got to be done about Hood! Never did like him and it gets easier after every game he plays. Take a good nose tackle in the 1st round and move Mclendon over to End. Hood can be a backup for the minimum! Or just leave if he likes, but don't let the door hit you in the azz on the way out!

I have a theory on May 9th. Let's assume the Steelers are picking 37th. I'm telling you right now Colbert is trading back unless a blue chip prospect with zero character flaws falls that far. Why ny? Well because they pick at 97 after 37 that's 60 players off the board almost 2 full rounds. Colbert learned the hard way in 2004 when Cowher had him move up for Ricardo coughclogh, they left a HUGE gap between picks .(75 Max Starks 145 Nathaniel Abidi) Nathanaial Who??? Yeah eggsactly. The steelers were looking for LB help, Inbetween Starks and Abidi 12 LB's came off the board, class this missed.

The all Costal Team: Jadaveon Clowney. Taylor Lewan. To me both these top Talents are coasting in 2013 waging for the NFL $$$!.Lewan even more so . Instead of getting stronger and a better footwork / hand punch, He's resorting to cheap tactics. We saw the Spartan helmet get twisted off. Yeah we want aggression but he may very we'll be a PF machine, no thanks. Clowney doesn't even fit the 3-4, JMFO. 3 of the biggest fallers to me are: Tahj Boyd, James Hurst, Austin Sefarian-Jenkins. All were mocked in the first round 2 months ago. Hurst is now the 7th rated OT Down from 4th, Boyd was the 3rd rated QB, now the 7th, Jenkins the best TE to now 3rd. Honorable mentions to Louichez Purifoy and Bradley Roby.

Here's a question, do you think Khalil Mack will go in the first round?

    Top 15 pick JMFO.

Not home at the moment so no ESPN2

We need pass rush help, I think Worilds is definately gone next season and we need depth at that position, anyway you think we'll go OLB again in the 1st round, with us right now picking 3rd overall we might land Barr instead of Mack. It looks Like UB uses a 3-4 defence.

  15. StlCrtn Franchise Player Steelers

Yeah. From my understanding, he is just right outside the top-10. His stock has been going up as the season progresses. I have a feeling he will tear it up at the Combine as well. Don't be surprised if he cracks the top-10.

latest mockeries from Sea Blow ess have Pittsburgh taking jake mattews at 6. walterfootball has us takig lewan at 6, Matthews and Barr are off the board. in the wf mock, evans was BPA, both Rang dang doo and bugphuccer have Kahlil Mack going top 10. (Atlanta 7) Bugger also snuck in Van Noy in round one,, I cannot argue with it. I wonder if at pick 39 if Bradley roby or louichez purifoy are still on the board, Colbert pulls the trigger?

At pick 97 no mocks out, Walter ends with no comp picks, I think we all agree Wallace will garner the first comp pick with his huge contract. As predicted, both he and keenan lewis have not had the same success on their new teams, as they previously had on the Steelers. The grass is always greener,, ... and the money is pretty green too. back on subject, Michael Sam has not been taken, I like that pick here, a pass rusher from the SEC with upside

. I got a homer pick: Jesse Joseph, he plays DE, but at 6-3 262 he is built like Woodley. He is athletic and no character flags I know of, would love to bring him in for competition. I doubt Yawin Smallwood makes it out of the second round. Shamar Stephen is a big kid who plays DT for the Huskies, I also like his potential. He probably goes in the late 5th or early 6th.

Justin Gilbert who starts at CB for OSU also returns kicks and punts, took a kickoff return back for a 100 yd TD today. Has multiple returns for TD's in his career at Oklahoma St.

  18. nybites M.V.P. Steelers UCONN

I could live with Gilbert on the roster, he has size and can play ST. He's gonna go around pick 70, the one we traded away because the FO didn;t want to risk Shamarko Thomas still being there 4 picks later. Maybe they had intel that some team was going to jump ahead of them. The teams in between Thomas and Duck Jones were Dallas, who had already drafted JJ Wilcox, and then went CB with BW Webb, St. Louis who were looking for OL help and took Barret Jones, Oakland took QB Tyler Wilson, who they had rated ahead of Duck Jones, end of story.

If fate would have it, Shamarko Thomas has been nothing less than a great Rookie Steeler, being and armchair GM I would have waited for Thomas and then used a late round pick on a project QB, or brought someone in undrafted. If this pick 70 in the 2014 draft comes back and wins a game for Cleveland vs. Pittsburgh, I will have to throw a TV brick across the room. One basic rule of trading is trade out of Conference, or at least out of Division. Recent trade partners have been Chicago and the NY Giants,, I like that approach much better. Why in the world are the Steelers helping the Browns rebuild, that was my thought in April,,minus all the words with C's and K's in them. *WASSUP*

That is awesome, I was also thinking the same thing, not only was it a third round pick but the trade was involving someone in the division, I didn't get the logic behind that move whatsoever.

Is it possible that we think about ILB early in this draft, 3rd roundish?

Watched the BYU vs Wisconsin game. I was impressed with MLB Chris Boreland. He's a machine! Built like London Fletcher and plays like Fletcher but faster. He's going to be a solid MLB in the NFL.

Both RBs for Wisconsin looked good. The SR James White is a dual threat catching and running the ball.

The O line for Wisconsin was dominate. Guard Ryan Groy isn't rated high enough in the draft projections I've seen.

Kyle Van Noy wasn't able to rush the QB much due to the dominance of the Wisconsin run game. BYU head coach was the D Coordinator for Brian Urlacher in college. Says his football IQ is as good.

Cody Hoffman got held all flipping day. Refs in that game threw the flag three times and waved two off because the ball wasn't catchable. Had to laugh. The defender was holding so bad the ball wasn't catchable both times. Guess they didn't realize they could and should call defensive holding on the DB. Hoffman still had a great game. Hoffman is going to be a great NFL WR.
