It looks like Mel Kiper is now employed by the Cowboys.

Off topic here, but I found this funny as sheet, post on Craigslist. Women selling clothing, some plus sized articles, and a barely used treadmill.
Best of Craigslist, this is really funny, I found it.

2014 NFL DRAFT this the year for Colbert to forget the rule and grab Ike's replacement. I think if Thomas and Golden work out, the secondary will have some depth. But the talent at CB is top heavy from what I'm reading, safety not so much.

What about the Purifoy kid from Florida. Has good size and good enough speed for the Steelers D. I don't remember where I read it at, but I guess Floida is going to try him out at WR as well.

Purifoy would be my target for sure. Walter Football must smoke mean ganja to think Cyrus Kuangjo lasts until the end of one. :/

  6. Hey all,

Something that was on Steelers Depot really stood out to me as far as the 2014 draft looks. The compensatory picks the Steelers could receive include a 3rd (Wallace) a 5th (Lewis) and at least one 7th rounder (combination). I know this is probably why Pittsbirgh trades away their 2014 third rounder this year, but I suspect they will be willing to move a bit of they need to next year.

    INdiana,

Yeah, Kevin COlbert said as much when they moved up for Shamarko THomas, they anticipated a 3rd round comp. pick.

I still think they need secondary help, at the minimum depth. RIght now OT is also thin.

I still don't know if that trade was worth giving up the extra 3rd this year, does anyone else think we could've had Thomas with our original 4th rounder instead of drafting Landry, I've heard he still hasn't signed and can't hit the broad side of a barn so far in OTA's. He may be smart and know the game but if can't complete passes what good is that?

QBs I can't think of 1 QB from Oklahoma that is any good, including Bradford.

  10. The truth of the matter is this...if four years from now, the Jarvis Jones, Le'Veon Bell and Marcus Wheaton are quality starters, this draft is a success. Anyone from 4th-UDFA that is still on the team 4 years from now is a bonus. If they are starters, that's incredible. If they are studs, we found diamonds in the rough and got REALLY lucky.

I know we like to harp on all the "depth" options and "guys who fell" but the talent for most teams fall within the first three rounds. Anyone else who comes out of the woodwork and can contribute or becomes a stud is a steal.

  11. I agree with you on OT depth, but I think the secondary could become a great strength. Golden, Brown, Thomas, Hawthorne and Victorian all have the look of quality players and maybe even starters and that's not including Gay. Of course all these players are young and green and could always flop but I like where they stand with those guys.

  12. If I had to do a guess on top needs for 2014 I would go in no order:

Offensive line depth-Every backup will be either a UDFA or 1st year player outside of Beachum

Defensive tackle-Ta'amu is still a big boom or buster and if he busts they have nothing behind McLendon. Woods I think looks like he could be a nice reserve player so maybe he can fit here

Inside linebacker-Vince Williams and Sean Spence always could change this and I really like McFadden but he just looks like a backup and special teams ace right now

Corner-Just in case some of those guys I mentioned don't work out

Wide receiver-Only if Sanders leaves, if he does there is nothing behind Brown and Wheaton unless Cotchery comes back and/or Gilreath breaks out

  13. Next year will be a very loaded year

6 potental franchise QBs (Bridgewater, McCarron, Manziel, Boyd, Murray, Fales)
Marquis Lee is the best WR prospect I've seen since AJ Green and maybe even Calvin Johnson
Lewan and Matthews might be better than Joeckel and Fisher
Bradley Roby is probably better than Milliner
Anthony Barr is Ansah but with more production and Kyle Van Noy could have been the best guy on that BYU line
Austin Seferian-Jenkins is the best TE prospect I have seen in a long while unless I'm missing someone

  14. The thing that will be interesting in the 2014 draft is the Steelers addressed major needs this year, so next year it is almost entirely depth-based. Sure, they will be looking for another Safety to replace Clark/Polamalu eventually, but LB and O-line depth will be the biggest things to address. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Steelers take a TE in round 1 next year to pair with Heath Miller.

I disagree. We're probably looking at a top-needs list of TE, CB, and ILB. Miller is the only TE still under contract after 2013. Ike Taylor will need a successor soon and competition for Hawthorne won't hurt, as I feel like Curtis Brown won't stick. Foote needs a successor too.

Sanders isn't leaving and OL depth when guys under contract can fill the void should never be top priority, IMO.

  16. I think Sanders will sign as well but as for right now we have to at least consider the prospects that he won't. I forgot TE as well. Also, never said OL depth was a top priority, just a need. And I'm sorry, I don't have a ton of faith that guys like Long, Embernate and Golic can be good starters for them if injuries occur. Maybe they will, there is potential there, but adding some picks on the line should help. Doesn't have to be day 1 or even day 2 picks. As for corner, we will see this year just where they stand at corner. A guy like Curtis Brown could have a breakout year. But if none of these guys look like starters they'll need to add Ike's replacement.

Which means he will go to a god awful defense for a boat load of cash *OK*

And hopefully that would bring a nice comp pick *DANCE* *YAHOO*

  18. I'm not so sure. You'd have two years to lock up both him and Allen and if Ike becomes a cap casualty or gets a salary cut some of that could go to one of them. Don't sleep on Hawthorne on either. I think he will be an absolute steal. Victorian is another guy I am higher on than most. He looks like a playmaker and gets himself in position to make a big play. I thought against Dallas he was always in position but of course couldn't tackle for poop that day.

And who knows, maybe once they sign Allen long term and then Brown leaves as a UFA a guy like Hawthorne or Victorian could be ready to step in and start. Now these guys always could flop and if that happens they really will need to add to that position but I think they've got some keepers with those two. Throw in Golden and Thomas and that's some nice young secondary players.

I still contend that there will be a CB that will be BPA when the Steelers pick, and it makes sense. It isn't reaching and they have roster spot for when Ike walks away, same as Farrior did.

I am still lamenting over the Landry Jones pick, I would have doubled up on WR and grabbed Quinton Patton. I am really liking the DE out of Samford, but the WR transfer from PSU, not very high on. I would have rather they taken Renfree or Dysert later on over Landry "wounded duck" Jones.

We shouldn't have wasted that pick on Landry Jones. He is going to suck.
