    This thread has more post on it than any other team board has on the whole team board. This is really a popular thread. Too bad we lost everything from the old seebs one.

    Maybe it's just me, but a couple of days ago this thread had 108 pages. Either the pages are longer or some pages/posts have been deleted.

    this is the one topic that I feel is a year long topic, during the NFL you have the college season in which you look at next years talent to see who's coming out and could possibly be a good fit for whoever's team. After the season then all the kids go on many job interviews for their career, whether it be Senior Bowls, Pro Days, Combine, or individual workouts. Then of course comes Christmas(DRAFT) as NYB would put it. and then you follow these kids through OTA's, mini camps, and training camp to see if they make the team. Then it starts all over again.
    It's a wonderful thing!!!

    I agree the draft is a 12 month event. I mean do they even televise other drafts like MLB NHL ? And the NBA doesn't count, cause I don't watch it anymore.

    NBA=ESPN
    MLB=MLB Network
    NHL=NHL Network or NBS Sports

    If you hate Kiper, you know his history picking players.
    If you hate everyone your just bitter.

    I think Gil Brandt has more going for him than Charley Casserly. I cannot even watch his Grinchy teeth anymore, I think they have the same Dentist.

    The reason I don't care for Kiper, never admits he's wrong, too arrogant. I put a lot into the draft, but it's not my job. If my picks were as bad as his are, I would change careers. It is hard to guess the translations into the pros from College, but he's one of the worst. He gets fixated on measurements and ingores intangibles and off the field issues to a degree.

    I'm sure Travis Frederick has his fans, Brandt being one of them. That isn't really an effective counterpoint to my synopsis that he's a reach and not the third-best interior offensive lineman in this draft class.

    They are called Cowboys fans; because at this point, what choice do they have. *ROFL*

    Mel Kiper JUNIOR is THE prime example of being a direct beneficiary of NEPOTISM. his old man was a well-respected sports journalist and Jr skated on through on daddy's credentials. he never had to work for it because he was the offspring of Mel Kiper Sr and he will continue to use that FREE-PASS until he either retires or kicks the bucket. anytime i see Mel Jr's drivel, i just consider it to be space filler.

    First of all Frederick was not the 3rd interior offensive linemen drafted. Pugh and Long might have played college tackle but in the NFL their best positions are guard.

    I will try to counter your points, though I find it difficult because you are accepting of him as a 3rd talent, the reason I am guessing is from mock drafts mostly coming from online people who know less than NFL teams, they don't do interviews.

    Frederick played in 2012 for an injured Pete Konz without a drop off at C. Since Konz played well enough as a rookie its logical to think Frederick can do the same.

    Over 70% of pass plays for the Cowboys last year saw the pocket collapse and Romo was forced to scramble. If Frederick improves this area it helps the Cowboys make the playoffs. I think he can get help if Jenkins is so much of a problem on passing downs, good luck to Jenkins when they run.

    I find it interesting that no one bats an eye when Bray falls from a 4th rd prospect to undrafted because of lack of intelligence with the board, yet its impossible for a 3rd round talent to rise to a high 2nd because of high intelligence. Yes, Frederick is one of the most intelligent college players drafted. He was given 23 plays at the combine and he recounted all of them at a predraft interview. Then he did it again at OTAs.

    That's my best effort, I hope it helps.

    He wasn't drafted high second, it was low first, which is a reach period.

    Frederick had a 3rd round grade in Bizzaro World he's a late first rounder. Dallas could have taken Warford and Schwenke and Cyprien. But Jerry Jones is a cantankerous old Crackpot, throw all logic out the window !

    He could have even stayed at 18 at picked Sharrif Floyd, which even there would have made it the steal of the first round. Floyd is a perfect fit for Monte Kiffin's defense. Jones has no perception of value, and it's why recent Cowboys drafts have sucked.

    As for Frederick, I don't know who would say anything other than it was a major reach based on need. The Cowboys run one of the most ineffective front offices in the NFL, so excuse me if the idea that they had him rated highly against the general consensus doesn't sound plausible or acceptable.

    As for his intelligence...Trai Essex was considered the smartest player on the team when he was playing for the Steelers. Essex was a 3rd round pick in 2005 and a career backup. You can trash a player for being dumber than a bag of rocks (especially a QB), but good intelligence can only go so far before physical capability has to take over. Frederick is flat-footed, slow, and over-rated as a power blocker. He'll probably be better than the Cowboys' center for most of last season, but he won't be great and certainly not an All-Pro, and generally speaking, the first round is saved for All-Pro capable centers (Mangold, Mack, Pouncey).

    The Cowboys front office reminds me of the current White House

    I said high second in reference to talent level, that is where the Cowboys had him. Teams had only 16-22 players rated as first round talent on their big boards. It was a weak draft at the top. The Cowboys had 18 players as first round talents. So do you consider all picks from 21-32 to be reaches? Do you really believe taking someone at 31 is a reach but at 33 its ok because they are in different rounds?

    I believe it is a reach to call Jerry Jones a owner or GM.

    Let me start here. If you listened to Monte Kiffin's post draft interview, you would know he did not want Floyd, he did not want a player he did not feel was much of an upgrade, who would not play special teams, and did not want to cut a quality DT for the roster spot.

    This response represents bias. Therefore it show a lack of objectivity in your judgment.

    It is not reasonable to assume a 31st pick in a weak draft class is going to do as well as centers drafted 15th,22nd or 29th in stronger classes. Also, beside QB, center and middle linebacker are positions where high intelligence are valued because they make calls just like a QB. Center makes offensive line calls and MLB usually makes calls for the defense. Intelligence is thought to be a bonus for these positions, not what gets them drafted.
