And to add to that - GM , Rosen, admitted he screwed the pooch in 2009 and 2010 drafting for need vs Best Player Available. 2012 draft class was much much better - and this one may be also.. BPA is the reason Barkley is an Eagle.

    enjoy,

    bb

ps - BPA - is one reason I'm a little skeptical of the Steeler's 2013 draft class... Just too much of a coincidence that the best player available seemed to fit every need - I dont buy it and I feel we did some reaching.. I could be way off base.. time will tell..

BB, the only 2 picks I can see us reaching on potentially are the Bell and Jones pick, the Jones pick for sure, but like you said time will tell for Bell. Hopefully time will be on our side.

The problem is I saw Frederick getting bull rushed and said NO THANKS. He is not in the league of the Pouncey, Mack, and Mangold. Dallas hit the panic button because they took the 8th OL in the draft, the board was wiped. Had Cooper or Warmack been there at 18 that was their target. Even if the Titans considered him at 40, was he their 40th best player on the board, or was it a reach to get a Center like the Cowboys did. Barret Jones could have stepped in and Played OC for the Cowboys, he went in round 4. The right pick IMHO would have been Cyprien at 29, value and need match.

As far as taking Greene over Jones, I am on that wagon. Jones has done NOTHING to excite me in Rookie camp. Okay it's early but he's chucking ducks.... I would have much rather they taken Renfree in the 7th, they could have signed Nicholas Williams as an UDFA, he's a project anyhow.

I said this in the Bell Grade pick, here is the logic behind taking the RB early. There was a run on RB's in round two, he was the second back off the board, and the first back on their board. By taking a RB in round 2, he gets a 4 year contract. Conversly if they took Lattimore in the 4th round, he needs a year to heal up and regain strength, then you only get 2 years on a 3 year contract.

and again, even the Cowboys fans said Frederick was a reach, it's just not me, NFL network, ESPN, and WalterFOotball....... it's EVERYONE.

I did my best pick and worst pick round by round, anyone else want to have at it? I will list the best first, then the worst pick., and why.

    1. Sharif Floyd- value at 23 and filled a need for the Vikings.
Travis Frederick is a 3rd round average center in a weak class, period.
    2. Jamar Taylor- I think he was one of the better CB's in the draft and is scheme versitale.
Jon Bostic- I like the player, but a round later, The Bears panicked when 4 ILB were taken.
    3. Keenan Allen- if he heals and becomes anything like Anquan Bolden, it was a great pick.
Duron Harmon- holy reach Hoodie, he had the lowest nfl.com prospect rating, it was reminiscent of the Al Davis Mike Mitchell pick.

    4. Barret Jones/Quinton Patton tie. Jones is a plug and play OL and his value being able to play anywhere is a bonus. Patton is a good football player who I think will do well in the NFL as a #2, to get him in round 4 was awesome.
Levine Toledo, all the TE talent was gone, he's tall but not much else.

    5. Quenteras Smith, wait until his knee heals, this kid will terrorize QB;s.
Tharold Simon, was arrested during the first round of the draft. what an idiot.

    6. David Quessenberry, how did he fall this far, has the footwork and nastiness to play at least 3 spots on the OL.
Eric Kush, a Center that is developmental, still on the board were Barner, Washington, and of course Quessenberry.

    7. Jordan Poyer, Chip Kelly knows this kid, he threw away from him for 4 years.
Mike Cox, a RB from UMass. They need LB help and Reddick and Pough were available.

With Thomas in the wings, I wouldn't want him there. Shazier is actually not that small in the grand scheme of things, and like every other prospect, he'll gain around 10-15 pounds when he declares for the draft.

I want our defense to be fast and physical. Shazier is among the fastest linebackers in the country and excels at splash plays. Someone else mentioned Christian Jones. Length is nice, but range, which Shazier has in spades, is better. Few safeties in the history of the NFL have had as much range as Polamalu, and all of them have been great players. Length isn't terribly important unless you're playing in the trenches.

I wouldn't trust any third-round prospect who said teams contacted him in the first round. Frederick could be trying to be a good teammate in attempt to justify his new team's selection of him. He would gain nothing by not doing this and gain PR points and trust from some people that the Cowboys made the right choice in picking him after all by doing it. It also doesn't hurt his own ego.

For "position flexibility," Barrett Jones is bar none the most versatile offensive lineman in this class. He can comfortably play four positions on the line in the NFL and has experience at Alabama starting at the fifth - left tackle. He was at one point considered an early first-round pick. Even he would have been a more understandable selection than Frederick. He's strong enough to stave off bull rushers for the most part. With Frederick, maybe the Cowboys will handle power rushers a bit better, but now they opened a hole to quick finesse rushers on the interior. The Giants and Cullen Jenkins will love it.

    But he's a better player.

This is specifically the part in your post I wanted to address in the first place. I wasn't suggesting Andy Reid was basically GM of the Eagles. That the Chiefs just had a draft like the Eagles' drafts of the past few years is too shocking to be a coincidence; reaching for an offensive lineman early (Fisher is not as good as Joeckel and was a bad choice for first overall), squandering the second-round pick, and spending the rest of their picks on SEC question marks (reaching tremendously for Knile Davis), small-school no names, and a fullback. The comparison between the Chiefs of the present and the Eagles of the past in the draft is what I was explaining. Clearly, Reid was allotted some type of influence in the Chiefs' war room and also had that liberty with the Eagles at least late in his tenure in Philly.

    Great idea, ny.

    1. Sharrif Floyd - agree completely. There wasn't a better value pick than that one.
Travis Frederick - honorable mention goes to EJ Manuel
    2. Arthur Brown - Gotta hand it to the Ravens for picking a guy I thought could've been a first rounder.
Gavin Escobar - The Cowboys win again. They barely even need this guy.
    3. Markus Wheaton - I don't care if I look like a homer. Wheaton was a steal.
    Duron Harmon - Who?
    4. Brian Schwenke - This completed the assembly of a total interior offensive line transformation.
Edmund Kugbila - Like I said during the draft, I didn't even know his school had a football program.
    5. Quanterus Smith - The Broncos rocked this round. It was either Smith or Tavarres King for me.
Oday Aboushi - Shouldn't have been drafted. Nice, Jets.
    6. Bacarri Rambo - Talent says he should've gone on day 2. Redskins did a great job with safeties.
Alan Bonner - I don't even know who this is.
    7. Jordan Poyer - Amazing value pick this late.
Mike Catapano - He doesn't even fit the Chiefs' defense. At the top of the round, not good.

After watching highlights of our draft picks, I believe we got quality at every pick except maybe Landry Jones.

Yeah Landry Jones, we got Rick-rolled :(

I have to say my round 4 steal is Quinton Patton WR...and I'm still beside myself the steelers drafted a poor QB when Patton was sitting there like a sore thumb...a rd 2 talent in a position of need...Colbert overthought this one IMO...Sanders gets hurt often and will most likely be gone next year...watching both Patton and Wheaton play, Patton's my bet on being the better receiver.

My thought on Jones...QB is a luxury, if you want to draft one late when there isn't a steal available, maybe makes a little sense but when the steal of the 4th rd is there and at a position of need? BAD PICK.

BTW, anyone trying to sell Justin Brown as anything more than garbage is wearing ROSEY homer glasses, the guy's not even close to a NFL'er...and it really wouldn't have surprised me if Jones would have made it to rd 6...

Ben needs weapons, getting wheaton and Patton plus Jones and (hopefully Bell)...that changes my outlook on the draft completely...could have been a blow out IMO.

Not oy did they pass on Quinton Patton, they also passed on: jonathon Franklin. Chris Harper, Jesse Williams. Stepfon Taylor, and um Erl Wolff . To be fair Wolff did not exhibit a high football IQ on the chalk board during interviews.

Anyone want to say who was the best UDFA signed by any team? Last year it was probably Vontaize Burfict

Well those two are pretty much the only ones who did anything remotely significant last year.

Gil Brandt seems to think very highly of Frederick. He has an article on NFL.com

I thought Barrett Jones would have been the other player the Cowboys had interest in. The fact that he fell from 2nd to 4th round tells me either his injury is a big concern or the question he did well because of better players around him were valid. Anyone remember John McCargo? Frederick was rated highly before the combine and then after the track meet people started putting Schwenke ahead of him. I cannot find the article (I wish I could) but someone said he rated higher than Zeitler (who some thought was a reach) coming out of school. Zeitler played well last year.

Remember this trade back netted the Cowboys Terrance Williams as well. Although BB is not going to like this. I had a 1st round grade on Williams. Baylor has produced good WRs in the NFL. Kendell Wright led the Titans in receptions as a rookie. Josh Gordon while not polished looks similar to Torrey Smith in his first season. Williams is the best of the 3.

I like Joseph Randle as the steal of the 5th round. I had him as a 2-3 round pick and that was with his injury.

    Gil Brandt is senile.
