First name that came to my mind also Lulz.........without googling....

  2. ya, no bing for me on this one. he's got over 4k hits, right? pretty sure he doesn't have more than a thousand homers.

  3. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

    Rose...Cobb...Musial...Aaron...

Probably at least a half dozen more...

  4. i wouldn't have guessed aaron, but you're right. hits minus HRs for hank = 3016. didn't realize he had that many hits. cobb, ya, duh, surprised that one didn't occur to me.

musial makes it by a better margin than hank. good job, axe.

  5. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

There's gotta be a bunch of Dead Ball era players who make it. And what about Jeter -- he's not a big HR guy, I'm guessing he could be on that list...

ugh- you guys suck. im actually looking for aaron, but yes, it was phrased wrong. sorry. and cobb was #1 in hits until rose played until he was 45 to break it. did you know rose had over 10,000 more at-bats than cobb too. obvious he played till he broke the record. cobb is the real hit king.

ok new one---name the first cy young award winner. there was NOT one in each league till later on. it was 1 winner until they changed it. who was the first winner? and it wasn't cy young! haha

  8. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

Wasn't that many, but it was quite a few more.

I think Rose has a little over 5,000 hits, no? I didn't look it up but I thought I remembered seeing that online somewhere.....

  10. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

Nah...he only got a hundred or so hits beyond Cobb (I thought)...?

That's like saying Gretzky was not as good as Lemieux because he played waaaay more games. I thought you weren't into that kind of stuff? Then I have a beef about Lemieux being better than Gretzky, right? Lemieux was bigger and stronger but played way less games than Gretzky. You are contradicting yourself, Fish!

5000? haha. no, axe is right. another 100 or so.

ugh igloo you and this lemiuex crap. this is why people don't like him and pens fans. only they really think mario is better than gretzky. not howe? not hull? not richard? not messier - just lemiuex.

and cobb was better igloo. if you really think pete rose is the hit king, then you need to move to florida! cobb has 90 records. what does rose have? cobb was younger and had less at - bats to obtain a record that rose played till he was 45 to get. please.

and cobb was younger and did it in in less games than rose, so how isn't he not better?

your argument holds no water igloo. why? bc mario didn't pass gretzky's scoring marks! if he did so in less games than he may be or is better. he didn't, so he isnt. rose didn't beat cobb's age or at bats to beat the record. he played till he was 45 and finally broke it. big difference. bigger and stronger means zip. it's stats that matter and gretzky has them all. i don't see your comparison here. sure rose has more hits than cobb but look how long he took to do it. 10,000 more at bats. it's clear to why he kept playing...

i am not going back to the gretzky - lemiuex debate with a die-hard pens fan. that's a lost cause and a cause for me to drink again! no thanks.

  14. imo. mario was the best offensive talent the game has ever seen, at least in my lifetime. to me, the minute edge wayne has in PPG is easily accounted for by his team.

ok lulz. i don't agree. all i can say is when they were on the same team in 1987 vs russia, it was a joy to watch. and the winning goal started by mario with gretzky and dale hawerchuck in tow is still awesome! and not to cause and riffs but to my joke on the hockey thread about the 1987 oilers being awesome and great vs today's players, which everyone thought i was on crack for saying. the 87 canada cup team was really incredible. i won't say if they could've beaten todays players bc that will give cutter a heart attack, but they were fun to watch.

  16. not a worry, cat. it's just something i feel, but it's not even remotely anything i'd get into a big emotional argument over.

  17. Catfish Guest

    i agree....

Fish, Cobb and Rose played in completely different era's. Cobb didn't have to face the pitchers Rose did, The bottom line is "Who has the most hits, not who played in the most games". Could Cobb hit the same way he did in his era? Thats something we will never know. But I would lean against it. if you ask anybody who the hits leader is, they would say Rose, just as if you ask who the best hockey player there ever was, they would say Gretzky because of the stats. later on when players retire, the stats are all that matters in the end. And Rose holds the most hits stat. People aren't going to say, Well, he had more at bats. just like their not going to say Gretzky played a lot more game than Lemieux.....I watched Lemieux throughout his career, and he was like a magician on ice. Even Crosby isn't in the conversation with him. People that didn't see every game Lemieux played have no idea what Pens fans are talking about, of course. So I'll take what you say with grain of salt! In the end after a player retires, it all comes down to stats. Some of the voters never even saw either play.....Gretzky even said,"He's the best player I've ever seen!" Now the question becomes, is he talking about himself also or not?

  19. igloofn68 Guest

This is exactly what we are talking about, offensive stats, no? Gretzky never won the Selke, nor did Lemieux. We are talking about the offensive stats! Two against one, you lose, haha.......

Is this the correct answer, fish?
