I didn't say Wise was one -- I guessed three other pitchers.

  2. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

Earl Wilson was NOT one. For the record, neither were the three I guessed (Glavin, Ferrell, Drysdale).

No, none are correct except Guiarlldo of the Brewers who did it it against the Pirates in 2011. I think the recent game, he only went 8 innings. The other 2 are, well, one is a HOFer everybody knows, and the other I never heard of before. he will be the harder one out of the 3.....

CORRECT FISH! Need one more unless you want the amswer and we'll move on?

  6. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

There are 4 more (courtesy of SABR - the Society for American Baseball Research).

  7. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

Two of the remaining 4 are Hall of Famers. The other two were also pretty good - one was in the 1930's, one in the 1980's.

Lefty Grove for the 30's and a big guess of Tudor for the 80's. Not sure if Tudor is in the HOF.

They said Red Retny on the tele I think? Unless I didn't hear it real good (which I didn't) and they said Red Ruffing? Those would be the 3.......I don't get why everybody is coming up with different numbers on the players that did it.....There's supposed to be 3.......

    1. Tom Hughes (Thomas J.): Aug 3, 1906. First pitcher to do it, hits homer in 10th off St. Louis Browns pitcher Fred Glad to give Washington a 1-0 win.

    2. Red Ruffing: Aug 13, 1932. Ruffing homers in the top of the 10th off Washington's Tommy Thomas to pitch and hit the Yankees to a 1-0 win.

    3. Spud Chandler: May 21, 1938. Belts a homer in the 8th off Chicago??ยข??s Thornton Lee to pitch and hit the Yankees to a 1-0 win.

    4. Early Wynn: May 1, 1959. Wynn goes deep in the 8th off Boston's Tom Brewer in the White Sox 1-0 win over the Red Sox.

    5. Jim Bunning: May 5, 1965. Bunning tosses a 4-hit shutout, homering off New York's Warren Spahn in a 1-0 win for the Phils over the Mets..

    6. Juan Pizzaro: Sept 16, 1971. Pizarro knocks a Tom Seaver pitch over the fence in the 8th to pitch and hit the Cubs past the Mets, 1-0.

    7. Bob Welch: June 17, 1983. Welch scatters six hits and homers off Mario Soto in the bottom of the 6th to give the Dodgers a 1-0 win over the Reds.

I don't get why they said just 3 pitchers did it on the Pirates telecast? Bad information being thrown out by the guy who looks this stuff up and hands it to the announcers.....So then Ruffing was probably the 3rd. I think he's a HOFer also?

  12. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

Catfish is correct - those are the six.

Ruffing, Wynn, and Bunning are Hall of Famers. Mabe the Pirates announcer meant 3 Hall of Famers who had done it...?

igloo--you pulled a catfish! haha. gave a question and then had it wrong or the answer. haha. now i don't feel as bad. haha

new one -- this is tough - the phillies played in 2 ws in 1980 & 1983 - name both of the NLCS MVPs of each series and the answer is neither Schmidt, Rose or Carlton.

  14. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

    Manny Trillo and Hamels.

  15. Catfish Guest

will- it's 1983, not 2008? manny trillo is right for 1980. need 1983?

  16. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

I know. I just couldnt think of any other Phillies lol, BUT, I'll throw out Lennie Dykstra for the hell of it. He played some good ball back in the day. I was also thinking of the 'Wild Thing', but maybe he didnt even play on Philly back then. I just cant make up my mind. :)

  17. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

Dykstra wasn't with the Phils in 1980.

How about Sarge? Didn't he hit a 3-run tater in the Houston series?

  18. igloofn68 Guest

The Phillies lost that '83 World Series, 4 games to 1. So it has be one of the Orioles. Which would be Rick Dempsey?

  19. igloofn68 Guest

Who is the ONLY player to record 1,000 hits, 500 runs scored, 500 RBIs, 100 home runs and 100 stolen bases in each league?

    (The answer may surprise you)

  20. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

The question was who was the MVP of the 1980 and 1983 NLCS, not WS.
