Well, being a Dallas fan by default he's "my guy." He's no Aikman or Staubach, but let's be fair: very few QBs ARE an Aikman or Staubach.

Romo isn't a guy like Brady who can put a team on his back and carry them to a title. But again: how many guys in the NFL are? Very few.

Romo gets a lot of grief, and I'd say a good portion is deserved. He hasn't been stellar in big games. But you can't take away from the fact that he deserves A LOT of credit for helping get the team in position where they CAN vie for a playoff spot.

Warts and all, I'd still put Romo among the Top 12 QBs in the league.

True...but I don't believe Jones sees Romo as one of those "fireable" mistakes he's made as GM.

aikman had a ton of weapons most qbs and teams dream of. he wasn't in the same class as montana, young, kelly or some others, but with the team around him, emmitt and that line - he made it work for him to 3 titles, when many bs montana didn't.

staubach to me was way better than aikman. better college and pro and i just read that he is one of the wealiest former nfl'ers of all-time due to being a savy real estate tycoon. not bad for a navy man and heisman winner.

Montana, Young and Kelly didn't have a ton of weapons around them...?

Don't know about "way" better, but yeah -- I put Staubach ahead of Aikman.

Interesting, on the NFL's "100 Greatest Players" list, Aikman came in ahead of Young.

axe-look at what i said, with the team around him, he made it work to 3 titles. kelly has 0 rings, young has 1 on his own. so yes he had talent around him but so did kelly and won nothing and young with rice won once. troy made it work for him against a tough NFC back then to 3 rings in 4 yrs. that's all im saying.

im not a young guy but everyone else seems to be from back then. aikman is ahead of young in my book.

funniest thing about aikman was with his weapons, no one wanted him in fantasy. haha. not a great fantasy stat player.

  8. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

Okay, I mis-read what you were getting at...!

I actually won a fantasy league with Aikman as my QB - it was the only year he threw for more than 20 TDs (if memory serves, it was 23).

My "star" that year was Falcons QB Chris Miller, who had 26 TDs the year before, and had 14 by midseason 1992. One of the other owners in the league had a strong team but needed a QB, so knowing I was Dallas fan, he dealt me Aikman and Michael Irvin in exchange for Miller.

Aikman had a solid 2nd half, with 13 TDs in the last 8 games; Irvin had 3 TDs and 3 100-yard games. Miller...well, Miller blew out his knee in his first game after the trade. HILARIOUS!

On a side note, Aikman is the reason Hall of Fame writer Ray Didinger (a local guy) doesn't play fantasy football. His son asked him years ago who a good fantasy quarterback might be to draft, and Diddy said 'Aikman.' When his son told him that in fact Aikman is a bad fantasy QB, Didinger said "any game where Aikman isn't considered a good player is a game I don't want to play."

  10. i like ray. never heard of him till now, but i agree with him about fantasy sports. they emphasize arbitrary individual stats removed from the concept of a TEAM game. my favorite example is the awarding of points for penalties in hockey *CRAZY*

axe-im from outside of philly now. where are you from again? only philly guys know ray didinger.

blew out his knee after the trade- that's great work. im in fantasy now but it sucks. running back by committee and wrs getting hurt all the time. when you took a guy 10 yrs ago, he was your stud and the first rd was a maintain of the best in the league. now it rotates every year to the hot guy or the flavor of the week.

I would put Aikman over Young just because he has 3 Super Bowl's while Young only has one.......

  13. Catfish Guest

i got a long list of dislike for steve young!

    I'm in NE Philly.

Didinger is always "the voice of reason." The egomaniacs (like Cataldi, and Eskin, who's no longer on sports talk radio) drive me nuts; give me someone who can analyze and speak rationally.

Got lucky with that trade, no two ways about it.

Our league has a flexible lineup - we have 5 RB/WR/TE starters, but you don't HAVE to start 2 RBs. You can start 1 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE. Or 2 RB, 3 WR, 0 TE. Or 4 RB, 1 WR, 0 TE. Or 1 RB, 1 WR, 3 TE.

axe-if you live near philly, how do you survive as a cowboys fan?

we need to get back to baseball on here....

an easy one - 4 part question---

who hit the only grand slam in all-star history?

    off of what pitcher?

    what year?

    what stadium?

i know all 4 of these off the top of my fat head...

  16. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

I don't advertise it much - I'll wear a Cowboys baseball cap out and about, but I don't wear my jerseys outside or anything.

Huh...I really have no idea. I know Teddy Ballgame hit a famous all-star game HR off Rip Sewell and his "ephus" pitch, but I don't know if it was a grand slam.

  17. Catfish Guest

no axe. i think the williams one was to win the game and it was his last All-Star game ever. The answer is more modern times.

  18. Catfish Guest

well axe-if i met you out somewhere, i wouldn't say anything. haha. now those 70,000 lunatics at the linc are another matter on sunday mornings.

Fred Lynn off of Atlee Hammaker @ Comiskey Park in 1983.......

What 2 players have hit more homeruns from when Pujols came into MLB (around 2000) until 2010 I think it is?

I saw this on Mike & Mike this morning. One is easier than the other. The #1 player is the hardest.....

Edit: 1st player I thought of was Adam Dunn but he's 4th after these 3 guys.......
