  1. Underdog Franchise Player Patriots

    Nope, on the right track.

He worked as a broadcaster for many years after his playing career was cut short, appeared on many TV shows, and died young from a heart attack.

Don Drysdale also holds the record for most ASG's started by a P, tied with two other HOF'ers. Can you name them?

  5. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

Families, man. Pretty lame of the wife to offer stuff to her own kids but not his older kids. OTOH the older kids are grown ass grown-ups, too...dude's been gone almost 25 years ffs...if they wanted some of that stuff they should've just told her so. People go cuckoo when it comes to dead peoples' belongings.

Good guesses, but no. One's dominant stretch was the 1930's, the other was the '50's.

    Catfish Hunter?

  11. Catfish Guest

ok now my guess is carl hubbell and whitey ford ?

  12. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

No, I'm being silly. It wasn't Catfish.

How about Robin Roberts or Billy Pierce, for the 1950's?

  13. Catfish Guest

damn Will-Robin Roberts is a great guess. he may be it. i think i recall seeing that on a Phillies trivia website. Well done !

  14. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

I'm just dropping names of players that had a reputation from the decade before I was born, lol.

  15. Underdog Franchise Player Patriots

    Robin Roberts is one.

Carl Hubbell is not the other. Think Philly again.

  16. Catfish Guest

  17. Underdog Franchise Player Patriots

    Too far back.

  18. Catfish Guest

    u said the 30's?

and the real answer is lefty gomez. he wasn't a phillie?

the phils didn't have anyone good bs alexander, roberts and carlton till the 90's with schilling. jim bunning was half a phillie. haha

  19. Underdog Franchise Player Patriots

Well, I said Philly, as in the city where the Athletics once played, not the Phillies, but still my bad...got my Lefty G.'s mixed up. I gave a hint for Lefty Grove, not Lefty Gomez.

a simple but great nickname - "Lefty!"

i wrote many years ago that baseball has some of the best nicknames in all of sports. the hockey guys said hockey players did. to me it's not even close. baseball has the best nicknames.

i could name 20-30 in baseball without even trying.
