Who holds the record for the most consecutive games played as a catcher? Bonus attaboy if you can give the number of games. Ten bonus attaboys if you can describe what else was particularly unique about his streak.

  4. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

Frankie Hayes - 312 - most of his games were Complete Games too...

    Correct.

The really unique thing was he accomplished the streak playing for three different teams. He caught the last two games of the 1943 season for the Browns, was traded to the A's in the off-season, caught all 155 games for them in 1944, then their first 32 games in '45 before being traded again to Cleveland, caught their remaining 119 games, and then the first 4 games in '46 before finally taking a seat.

never heard of him. sounds like a gamer playing all those consecutive games at the hardest position...

Height of WWII, a lot of C's were logging lots of innings around that time.

Hayes was (perhaps unsurprisingly) basically washed up as a player about a year after his streak ended. Cleveland traded him right after starting the AS game in '46 to CWS, he was in a terrible slump, White Sox cut him after the season, he played a few weeks with Boston at the start of '47 and that was it. He also had multiple run-ins with his managers along the way which probably didn't help lol.

Who are the only 2 players to finish 2nd twice consecutively for the MVP voting and win the MVP in the 3rd year? Does that make sense? (We are talking about a 3 year span)
