They were first given numbers corresponding to their spot in the batting order (Babe Ruth #3, Lou Gehrig #4, etc.).

I think Gehrig's was the first retired.

Nice Axe!.......The Pirates Opening Day pitcher, Lariano, is right Fish, nice work......

Who is the only player to hit a ball into another state? (This is a bit of a tricky one, but it is a fact)

ugh--i recall something in cincy where the ball went into the water and floated to the pa side? some nonsense like that.

Think Catfish is on the right track - my guess was it had something to do with water, like a ball leaving the stadium lands in water that territorially part of another state. I was thinking Bonds hitting it into McCovey Cove, but he's not the only one to hit it there (I don't think).

Has to be a ballpark where a stadium is close to water AND a state border. Cincy would qualify (Ohio River, and near to Kentucky)...was the Polo Grounds close enough to the river where it could be claimed by Jersey? Old Three Rivers (also on the Ohio River)...?

Partially right..... It was in Cincy's new Park and bounced into the water, which was considered Kentucky. Now all you need is the player. He was the only one to do it. It had to bounce because NOBODY could ever do it on a long fly. It's just too far for anybody to hit a HR on the fly. So this player is the only one to hit it far enough for it to bounce in? Hint: Former Reds player on another team.....

Former (and recent) Red who could paste the potato...

    Adam Dunn...?

  8. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

Hello everyone...the answer is Adam Dunn. That guy could hit, well, when he made contact anyway.

  9. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

Axe beat me and is correct. :) Im too slow.

  10. AxeMurderer Legend Cowboys

Adam Dunn is this generation's Dave Kingman.

  11. seems strange that the water would be all considered kentucky. normally, a border would go down the middle. i wonder if it's a case of the ohio meandering slightly since the border was drawn.

  12. curiouser and curiouser. here's what the evil empire thinks...

    Huh.

No way he put it a third of the way across the river. I was thinking there had to be some East-West delineation, and Dunn (being a lefty) pulled the ball and sent it to the "Kentucky" side...but there doesn't appear to be such a boundary according to THAT map...

i think dunn did it against philly bc they showed it hit the sidewalk bf the water and then flew into the water and floated away and probably across the line to kentucky...they had a camera on the ball a few batters later and it was floating away and the announcers were saying something like "its floating to kentucky." if not against philly, i do recall another batter against philly doing something like dunn did.

I think this is right if my memory serves me. Who is the only player to hit 2 HR's out of Dodger Stadium, TWICE? Might be the the only player to do it once, let alone twice......

  17. Catfish Guest

    good one igloo...

  18. igloofn68 Guest

It is sooooo good that nobody is answering it, right Fish? ( It's really not a hard question)

  19. according to answers.com, it's willie stargell - and mike piazza did it once, for a total of 3 homers hit out of the stadium.

  20. igloofn68 Guest

Right Lulz, didn't know Piazza did it. Good to know some other info also.....nice work!!!!
