Pat, dunno if u saw and dunno what thread it was but blang asked you/others about David Shaw. Whats your take on this Shaw character, should he be on the list? Seems interview worthy at the very least but my knowledge really doesn't run deep on that one. The list of names doesn't wow me. McDaniels I don't like, Shurmur I used to like a lot in OC terms but there are legit leaderships concerns in terms being a HC imo. DeFillipo and Nagy have potential. And I'm not saying this to be a dick..... but if they give Jim fucking Schwartz the HC job i'm out. Proper. I'm not standing for some prick who'll come in and turn the whole team into nothing but of bunch of classless, scumsucking cheap-shot artists. Not happening.
Schwartz can go fuck himself. I'm not totally turned off by McDaniels. David Shaw I think I would like a lot.
Ted Phillips will be involved in all of the interviews so keep the faith they will make the right choice ..... LOL yea right ....
Will they go with a defensive or offensive minded Head Coach? Will they retain a 3-4 defensive scheme which they have the personnel for?
Ken Norton Jr. was one coordinator that was high on my list for potential head coaching candidates but you can't justify hiring a guy to the top position that was fired mid-season from his co job. This is from the quick list I keep and update occasionally - Defensive minded potentials at the coordinator level already in the pro game - Greg Manusky Kacy Rodgers Bob Sutton Mike Vrabel Matt Patricia James Bettcher Keith Butler Chuck Pagano Ken Norton Jr. Position coaches at the pro level - Giff Smith Mark Duffner Jerry Gray Jerry Olsavsky Greg Jackson Bob Babich Offensive minded potentials at the coordinator level already in the pro game - Rick Dennison Josh McDaniels Todd Haley Jim Bob Cooter Pat Shurmur Mike Shula Position coaches at the pro level - Curtis Johnson Jeremy Bates Frank Pollack Corey Matthaei
The list of coaches at the collegiate level is probably more entertaining, but it would take an owner that was committed to a 5 year plan to guarantee any kind of success and I just don't see that in Chicago.
I don't see it either. Our plan seems to go year to year more than anything. The biggest things the Bears have going for them right now is Trubisky and the #8 pick.
Which is why I would like to see the Bears consider giving Matt Canada (L.S.U.) an interview. His scheme is extremely flexible and tailored to the offense's strengths. He might be the most underrated offensive mind in the NCAA.
If they could pull a guy like that and keep Fangio in place to run the defense.....that would have me really excited for next season.
Adjustments. From game to game or play to play and even player to player....Fangio knows how to adjust and move pieces around to get the best results.
When Tomlin was hired by the Steelers it was a 3 man committee (president Art Rooney, chairman Dan Rooney and football operations director Kevin Colbert) involved in the decision. I cant say for sure but I would guess most teams go with this type of approach or if not the committee style than the candidate interviews with the gm and owner in separate interviews. I have seen several people here not liking the fact Pace was retained and I'm just curious as to why. For the offense his drafts have brought in Trubisky (who yes is a work in progress), Howard, Cohen, and center Cody Whitehair (who has been named one of the best players under 25 by Pro football focus). On defense (which is still a team strength) at least 3 of the starters were drafted by him and he brought in Sam Acho and Prince Amukamara as free agents. So just curious as to why so many want him out.
Well....the difference is the Rooney’s tend to owners you can trust that make mostly good decisions and show a committed effort to winning football games. The Mccaskeys....not so much. And just speaking for myself....not totally sold on Pace but he’s made enough good moves that I’m not upset at the extension.
That makes two of us. Not only is this guy a classless dickwad, but seems rather dim-witted. No way, no how on Schwartz.
