Yesterday it was a balmy 96 here. I spent about 4 hours outside on the deck working on programming for my yoga/tai chi class. I'm moving my yoga class in a decided strength-training direction so this class is going to be HOT! I'm going to do a fast-paced vinyasa (flow) of poses melting into poses melting into ... No rest for the wicked in my class. This is going to really test the ability of even my more advanced students. But it's going to be a lot of fun and everyone who plays is going to see a very quick transition in their bodies.

    I love yoga ...

So tonight I am starting an 8-week yoga program in a community near me. So far I have over 30 confirmed to attend. I don't even know if all of those mats will fit in the room!

I'm pretty excited but I'm nervous too :)

So I had this cockamamie idea last night and I started to advertize a new evening yoga class in my community. I just started one on Monday nights last week and had 20 people show up. The new one is going to be on Tuesday evenings and 65 people have committed to it. That is way too many people to teach yoga to at one time so I created another class for Wed. evenings at a different venue. I've been asked to add another class on Friday mornings to teach at our Early Childhood Education Centre where I will be working with young mothers and their children. I'm not going to accept any payment for that class because these woman are from low income families.

So yoga every single day of the week for me. I just finished teaching 2 classes at my home and now I have the rest of the day off ... to go do some shoveling!

on the tv show i watch Hawaii Five-O they had the main character badass Steve McGarritt doing yoga and he almost fell over with a cramp. haha. So i can only imagine how hard this is for the less limber.

  17. Wow. Just...wow. I know I could squat the both of them together.....no, no....I DEMAND to squat both of them together!

Cramps are part of the deal. I eat a lot of bananas for the potassium and take magnesium to try to control the cramps but they still happen.

The best reason to do yoga, is if you want to become more flexible and stronger. Think about it Cat ... we come tearing out of the womb moving and we move even more the older we get. We move right up until we start working full-time and then all of a sudden all the movement stops. People sit in their cars and then in front of a monitor all day and then back in their cars (or transit) and then sit down to a massive meal that they don't need because they haven't burned any energy off. After their meal they watch tv for 4-6 hours and then go to bed. Is there any wonder that people are so obese and out of shape?

All yoga is is stretching. There's balance poses and stretching. The program that I created WILL raise your cardio fast (I actually do some kick boxing in the middle of my Sun Salutation) and you will sweat doing yoga with me. My program is fun and we laugh a lot ... I've been teaching for years and I found that for me, teaching with humour means people learn faster and they retain more. For instance, last night, after working with my 25 clients on yoga for an hour and after we ended the yoga program I broke out into a dance and after everyone laughed they all started dancing ... and they left laughing and dancing. It was so much fun!
