    it is. i didn't know it was a play first and William Holden starred in that as well. funny thing is there was a big beef at the ending of the movie or the play. the director did not want Holden to come back up through the hole to salute the men. why i have no idea. Holden insisted on doing it. Director said "no." Holden insisted and then was willing to walk away from the role if not allowed to salute. the Director caved and allowed him to do it. Holden would win his only Oscar for the role. To me, the salute is not that big of a deal to get in an argument over.

    The scene where Holden confronts, the now late Richard Erdman, about him - (Hoffey) telling the Nazi's where Dunbar is, Erdman's reaction and saying "are you off your rocker," and then confronting Peter Graves is fantastic. I memorized the entire scene by heart as a teenager and could recite the entire scene word for word. I enjoyed the movie that much.

    well he died and his lover, who has dementia, forgot he died. kind of sad.
