RIP-Roseanne Barr's career after her racist Tweet yesterday which forced ABC to cancel her show ! See ya !
RB can consider herself permanently retired... unless she self-produces. But after this fiasco, she’ll have a shortfall of takers to join her on anything. Well, maybe Alex Jones (or similar ilk) would work with her.
I feel bad for the other people involved with the show. Actors, writers, etc. Their just trying to collect a paycheck. And now that's gone. All because Roseanne can't keep her mouth shut.
She came back from a crotch grab and spitting after a horrible rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.
I agree wholeheartedly with most of this - the fact that other people are suffering because of her does suck. I hope the young'ns that were hoping this show would be a staple on their resume (off-camera personnel) get more opportunities, going forward. My only exception to this post - the idea that Roseanne should've kept her mouth shut. Her problem wasn't that she said racist / bigoted things. The problem was that she thought racist / bigoted things, and didn't see a problem with it. It may be a technicality, but it's an important distinction. You shouldn't be quiet - you just shouldn't be a garbage person.
Agreed - but unfortunately (and thanks in large part to the current administration), many times such thoughts/statements/tweets are simply seen as a stance against political correctness. Racists don't see themselves as being racist - they're making a joke, or they're telling it like it really is.
Personally I think everyone needs to quit getting their panties in a wad when someone say something inappropriate.
Roseanne accused a Holocaust survivor of being a Nazi, rounding up his peers and turning them in, and stealing their money. She provided no evidence of such. She called a prominent black woman an ape (specifically, the offspring of apes), a term that has definite, historical racist use and connotation. This is well beyond "inappropriate", and thus your statement and feelings on the matter are entirely inapplicable. If you disagree, defend it.
Catfish, maybe look at it from a different vantage point: Social media has given a platform to the people who think terrible things to say them whenever they feel like. Once exposed as horrible people, they're called out, and they get all upset about it. This isn't about people being "sensitive". This is about assholes popping off, being told they're assholes, and instead of trying to fix that or considering that they might indeed be assholes, they get upset that someone pointed out that they're an asshole.
^^^but it also gives people the platform to just be idiots regardless of whether they're called out or not. people post crap on Facebook and Twitter without a care in the world. some people are just post happy and post anything that comes in their head and most times it's without thinking ! or they post every picture known to man of their kids on facebook. look lady, I don't wanna see your kid making funny faces at every little thing. it's shit like that dline that irk me on top of what you said which is also correct.
These are separate things. Let's not conflate someone telling you that they're eating dinner, or someone posting too many pictures of their kids, with people who say hateful, willfully ignorant, patently false things. Those are very different people. I get being annoyed by both, but they shouldn't even exist in the same conversation.
Ding, ding, ding !!!! We have a winner !!!!!! If looks like a duck,, walks like a duck,, quacks like a duck............. It's an asshole !!!!
ok fine split them apart. sometimes people who should know better just can't help themselves by putting their foot in their mouths like Roseanne. People just can't lay off the spotlight and make asses and fools out of themselves. unfortunately people do it on Facebook too for lesser offenses. No rules or governance sol lets make asses out of ourselves! Weee. Now I know why so many people don't do social media at all to keep themselves away from such stupidity, bullshit and nonsense !
She didn't put her foot in her mouth. She's a garbage person, who thinks racist, bigoted, hateful things. The problem isn't that she said it, it's that she thinks it. Again, the problem isn't assholes saying something, it's that they're assholes in the first place. She could've not said anything, but it wouldn't have made her less of a garbage person. I hate social media for a lot of reasons. I think we could do well without it. That said, one of the benefits is people like Roseanne exposing themselves for / reminding us of the terrible people they are.
Yes she is an asshole but guess what the world is full of them and if you get out panties in a wad every time one of them says something you are going to lead a sad pathetic life. And on the devils advocate side what if the reference to her being a planet of the apes baby had nothing to do with her being black but because of her looks? Automatically because she is black everyone flocked to its racist.
Two things: She might not have meant it in a racist way. It is, as I said, a definitively and historically racist remark. She can say she didn't mean it that way (she hasn't, to my knowledge), but it's hard to take her at her word, considering the source. And you're right, there are a lot of assholes in the world. That doesn't excuse a single fucking one of them. Civilization and society as we know it wouldn't function and exist if we just overlooked every asshole who did things like accuse Holocaust survivors of being Nazis. It's not okay, it's never been okay, it never will be okay, and it never fucking should be okay. It's not "panties being in a wad", it's "not tolerating horrible fucking people". When I asked you to defend the position, I didn't think you would. Takes a lot of balls to try and defend someone / a situation like this. Maybe take a moment to consider just how you really feel, and whether or not you should feel that way...
