I'm no fan of that journalist either, but there are an alarming number of former players have died or suffered from dementia or alzheimers. Certainly it's not out of place to mention that here.

There are a number of articles available on the web which broach the subject of football players who suffer from CTE or who have died as a result. It's interesting stuff.

Get hit in the head a lot....pay the price later.

It is alarming and sad how many former players have had issues stemming from CTE. No one ever really talks about the role that steroids, drugs, and alcohol played in their lives as well.

But the narrative that a lot of these players didn't know the risk...is crap. Boxers know the risk of being a boxer. Football and hockey players know the risk of playing a dangerous game where you can get hurt for real.

Good. If I may quote your response to me a few weeks ago, "F*** off".

Urlacher was always very honest about that. We've seen guys like the 49ers LB from a few years ago (forget his name) who retired in their mid-20s after all pro seasons because of the risk. They all know it.

Urlacher even admitted to lying to coaches and trainers and not admitting to feeling dizzy or having double vision just to stay in a game.

Its like there's a direct correlation between contact with the head/concussions and brain/memory problems sooner/later in life, depending on the individual with said head contact/concussion...

If only a certain dumbass could bestow upon us some arbitrary, anecdotal evidence that has nothing to do with Gale Sayers' passing or the problems he had with dementia and brain damage to diminish the topic of conversation for the thread (as is done so often, making the news or practical problem solving especially with elected officials impossible) based on what he infers in someone else's posts.

    Hey, perfect timing!

I did not mean any disrespect to Mr. Sayers or his family. I just think that it is a topic that needs to be addressed.

I didn't have to read the article to understand that if the catholic church can coverup sexual abuse to protect its interests so can the NFL.
What exactly is the point between when Sayers played and when Tagliabue became commish? Sayers played in a time when so little was known about the damage caused by repeated blows to the head, but how long did Tagliabue sit on the evidence when it became known?
