I think that's a little understated. The short bus at the Sun Times has been blasting them every chance they get. Even some of the Trib people were all over the FO in 12' before finding out that this thing was going to take years to unfold, like Sullivan for example. Plenty of local bloggers weren't very happy with the big trade and most of the season too. Overall though, I agree, it's sunshine and rainbows. Then how can you say Pinella was the best if all that matters is players? Pick a lane. this is a plus. This too.
It is not a choice between lanes. The effect of managers over a team can be irrelevant but there are still managers who are better than others. Maybe you can find an accounting multiplier that says managers are the most important part of a franchise?
I hear ya brother. There has been no reason why they shouldn't have by now. Just think of the prospects we could get in return for someone like John Lester.
I have no problem with that point, the theme wasn't lining up so thank you for the clarification. I don't think Maddon means all that much in the short term but I'm happy for the upgrade. We are probably in agreement overall on this in the short term.
I never said Rick did something to lose his job. i feel a little bad for him, but actually is probably good for his career too. He has one year of improving the young Cubs and he'll obviously get a good recommendation.
Agreed. A few of his in-game managing calls were head scratchers, but overall, he did pretty good with what he had to work with, playing decent ball the last half of the year when they could have very easily just laid down.
I didnt mean to imply that you thought that. I was just making a personal statement. It wasnt meant to be directed at you.
Eh, the value of a coach isnt black and white. We, as fan, rarely know how much impact a coach has outside the game on players. We dont know the psych or help they generate in players. I would have to look it up later, but I believe they were analytics that said Ricky cost us slightly over 5 games last year. A coach is more then just an in game manager and we dont truly know everything they do for the players.
