It seems washington does that a lot (makes a big play when they need it) just dont understand why he isnt out there more. Was worried that would be the call on dupree total bummer for him and the team.
Still on the officials more than anything else, i think most teams in that situation would've prob tried what the Steelers did, it just should've been called. TBH after they came away with nothing there i didnt watch much of the second half cos it was over. So i dont really know how the officials performed in the 2nd half, but the first half they were terrible imo. As well as the non delay of game, there was that clear as day holding that wasnt called right before the Steelers first TD, and then that roughing the passer call which went against the Steelers was just an absolute joke imo. Terrible performance. I didnt have a huge problem with that. They clearly called two plays in the huddle so that if the run failed they could go straight to the quick pass. There should've been time. Only thing is i thought they were gonna show run and go PA that first play. But honestly dirk, i think everyone knew what was going on in the sequence and they were all running cover for the fact that what the Steelers did slowing things down was, to put it kindly, in a very grey area as far as fair play goes. From the motives to the officiating it wasnt a great look, the commentary team(and prob the producer) knew that so Collinsworth kept circling back to the timeout. Very convenient. Also, you notice how often the little rules analyst kept chirping up in that 1st half? And yet he was completely silent when it came to the biggest, most controversial play of the half? Hmmmm, again, how convenient. They clearly kept him off the chat deliberately cos if he'd come on he would've had no choice but to say it should've been a penalty because the rules clearly state in this situation the onus is on the player to move himself in a timely manner and not linger on the downed player. In this case it was far easier to sweep everything under the carpet and the easy option was taken.
Just terrible news. Two stud players, you hate to see it. Dupree is on the tag right? Have to wonder if thats his last game as a Steeler.
I think Pittsburgh will likely offer him a deal that would keep him on the roster for the next 3 to 5 years, probably something in the neighborhood of $16mil on average. However, if I'm a 4-3 base defense in need of a pass rusher, and if I were the GM for any 4-3 standard I would always be looking to add pass rushers, I'd try to sway Dupree for a 3 year deal something along the lines of $20mil a season. I'm thinking the Colts should be near the top of that list.
The injury is unfortunate for Dupree but kind of a break for the Steelers. They can negotiate his next contract with that information included which may keep his market slightly cooler.
