Ravens offseason and draft thread

They wouldn't need him at a "comparable" level. But, he would be a great target, with great hands, creates space, gets open, excellent route tree, and a great mentor. We all know Joe needs his security blanket underneath. Nelson could fill that role and still have the ability to go long every now & then.

I don't mind rolling the dice on Grant for the reasons RR1 said in the routes, hands, attitude, etc. I do have a problem with a contract like that based on...what potential? It just seems very unlike the Ravens. I could have seen John Brown get that contract and Grant get the 5M 1 year deal instead.

Jerry Rice was great because he worked harder than everyone. Antonio Brown got to where he is because by all reports he works extremely hard. Maybe Grant does that and could potentially instill that to the receiver room? Not saying they don't work hard, but I hear too much talk about "talent" and "potential" over hard work.

Still, the Hurst and Grant contracts are a lot of money given out so far.

  3. Jordy Nelson is scheduled to visit the Ravens today coming from Raiders and then headed to Seattle. Raven Are very interested - thank God. Must have heard me bitching.

My only fear is that the Ravens sign Nelson, then pat themselves on the back for the 3 signings and proceed to completely ignore the position in the draft until the 4th round when they don't have a defender they like available. Enough is enough, they need a first round or second round (at the latest) WR who's more than a speed threat with questionable hands AND route running (see Torrey and Breshad)

  5. I agree. Except we all know they suck as developing receivers. I'm all for drafting Sutton or Ridley w/the 16th but would be satisfied with DJ Moore, Kirk or St. Brown in the 2nd/3rd or Tate, Coutee, Washington, or Pettis in the 4th.

If Ebron doesn't get signed the focus our 2nd and 3rd rds into a top TE prospect like Hayden (if he makes it out of the 1st), Gesicki (fastest TE of his class and a red zone threat), Schultz (a Witten-type asd sleeper) or Goedert (possibly the best hands of the TE class).

To amend my previous Nelson-post he will hit the Ravens LAST after leaving Oakland w/o a deal, then Seattle today, New Orleans next and finally Bmore. Brees just signed a 2-yr extension and I think playing for another elite might be the biggest threat to the ravens landing him. IMO having him (and possibly Grant) will only help set up a work ethic and winning culture among our receiving corps we haven't ever had. I also think he might have a positive affect on Joe since Jordy is reliable for Joe as a go to and might be able to help improve Joe's game knowing what an elite QB does.

So Brandon Williams has been restructured for the second time in a year (and he's only had the freaking contract for a year). We won't be getting out from under the contract until it ends at this point.

You know, I think I'm about ready for Ozzie to go. I've been one of his biggest defenders over the years, but this issue with contracts has pushed me over the edge. I hated Rice's contract. I really hated Pitta getting a contract after a broken hip. I understood Joe's deals, both of them. But for the life of me, I can't get over how much I hated, and still hate, the contract Brandon Williams received. I think it's because it cemented the fact that he/they just don't care about offense nearly as much as defense.

A two down NT vs an every down RT. A team that finds d-lineman easily (an undrafted player was playing very well) vs a position that has been a struggle with no depth at all. One year later, we have/had too many d-lineman, to the point were the last two 3rd round picks didn't even dress while healthy due to numbers, but we don't even have a RT now unless they plan to kick out Hurst who sucks there, Lewis who's never played there at the pro level, or Yanda.

  7. Willaims contract restructure will the Ravens another $7.5M in space.

Michael Crabtree looks like he's going to get released by Oakland if they sign Nelson (or maybe in general). Gruden is a Crabtree fan sooooo.....

They need to figure out if they want Wallace back too. With receivers like Tim White, Chris Moore and Quincy Adeboyejo coming along they might choose to let him walk. I'd be OK with that.

Tyler Eifert is also available as TE option though his injury history is not attractive.

    RAVENS G.M.O. DRAFT
1(16) Courtland Sutton, WR - SMU
2(13) Kolton Miller, OT - UCLA
4(14) Kyle Lauletta, QB - Richmond

I've got my next pick coming up at 4(18)

  9. Well, at least the Ravens didn't make the worst deal this year in the NFL. Cousins is now the highest paid player in history and his entire 3yr/$84M deal is fully guaranteed. What is it with these mediocre ex-Redskins players getting ground-breaking deals?

I believe I saw Eiffert resigned with the Bengals.

Our current options for Offensive signings look to be:

    Eric Ebron
Crabtree (has been cut by the Raiders)

    Our current receivers are:
    Quincy Adeboyjo
    Tim White
    Chris Moore
    DeVier Posey?
    Ryan Grant
    John Brown

Is there a trade target we could identify to get in the mix or is the current mix plus a high draft choice what we will have to settle for? They clearly restructured Williams for a reason.

I moved up 2 spots to 4(16) by moving back 4 spots at the end of the 4th.

  12. So it looks like Nelson will be a Raider inking a 2yr $15M contract.

Thank god for this, he failed the physical. No way he should have gotten that type of cash anyway. Damn shame that Jordy didn't leave the Raiders facility though, would not have minded him on the Ravens. Just say NO to Crabtree though, he sucks.

  17. I don’t think he sucks....he’s better than Grant

I don't even know what to say about Grant. How about a little conspiracy theory? What if the Ravens got buyer's remorse (duh) and found a way out from the contract?

And the Ravens restructured even more money according to you guys? Where is it going? Jensen and then Crabtree gets Grant's money?

Yes he is, but 99 percent of WR in the NFL are better than Grant. Not saying much. Crabtree i guess will be better than nothing though.

  20. Grant was getting too much from Balt but he’s not that bad....3 yrs $18M w $10M guaranteed is fair
