Well there's definitely more to it. He isn't even from Kenosha. He traveled there with other people it seems to help protect property. That's a bad idea to start with. He was apparently confronted by a mob and possibly attacked after either using his weapon or being mistaken for someone that did. When he was cornered and by some reports hit over the head with a skateboard...he pulled the trigger. Dumb, stupid, scared kid confronted by angry idiots....that's not gonna end well. All it adds up to is throwing gasoline on an out of control fire. Lives were ended....this kid will never be the same. I don't know who he is or what he's about. He's being called a right wing nut and racist online. Maybe he is. Maybe he's just a kid that respects law enforcement and all those American ideals and thought he could be part of a solution. I have no idea. I know his life is forever changed, not for the better.
He may be a kid that plays too many video games and thought this would be cool. Then shit his pants when things got real. The one thing I know for sure.....this will be played by both sides of the media to fit their narrative.
I agree. Even if he gets off on a self defense plea by some miracle, he's still in deep shit. A minor cannot own a firearm of any kind. I'm not even sure he can even possess one. And throw in the fact that he transported it across a state line, not once but twice. This kid is screwed.
I remember, after the 2016 election, telling my friend that America was we know it isn't going to survive this. I don't know how long it's going to take, but I believe America is going to look fundamentally different at some point - whether that's a physical difference, system of government difference, that's all to come, but... This division isn't just going away. Not with the way things (both true and false) are so proliferated and amplified by social media, etc. Maybe it'll be for the better. Maybe it won't. I'm turning 30 soon, so my perspective isn't as informed as many. But I don't see this country unifying any time soon.
Driving into violence with an AR you shouldn't own, as an otherwise completely unrelated civilian. Yikes.
The white supremacist report originated from one activist reporter that cited an ANTIFA facebook page as her source, then deleted that Tweet but let up another one that still claims he is a white supremacist. Then another reporter cited her and so on, and so on... Race baiting media gonna race bait. But we are getting into some seriously murky fucking water here. Business owners asked anyone who was willing to stand with them and protect their livelihood from being burned to the ground. There is video of the group that this kid was standing with. They had already told the rioting protesters that they were on their side but would not be willing to let innocent people have their business burned down over what should be a dispute with law enforcement. That would be the same LE that was told to stand down and let the rioting protesters continue to destroy private property. At some point we are going to see more, not less, citizens standing with arms against mobs of people hell bent on ruining everything that they have worked for, including the very fabric of the community they are apart of. Even the more peaceful protests that are happening in various other cities have, by the unfortunately larger majority, morphed into something that is starting to get ugly. The only way to redirect this is with more law enforcement and more arrests. The media has spent months attempting to bullshit everyone about the violence that is easy to google and see with our own eyes. Now we have a situation where they are undoubtedly going to ramp this into the biggest story that they possibly can to both increase viewership and redirect the talking point back to the original money selling narrative. Will we all come together to see the truth at some point? Gotta burn down the entire media complex and replace it with honest journalism so that we are all getting the same information to make informed decisions on instead of being able to choose which news best aligns with what we already believe to be the truth. So, no. We're fucked.
He will undoubtedly face homicide/assault charges that he will have to make his case on, but the gun laws are cut and fucking dry. Whichever adult purchased/lent that weapon to him needs to be charged immediately as well.
Son. I'm 64. And I don't ever remember a time when this country got along with itself. We have never all sat around the campfire and sang happy songs. Your right in one respect. Social media today has really stirred the pot. And that's NOT going away.
There is unfortunately no way to slow down the media...no way to slow down the social media fear mongering and rumor spreading. I agree we need to see enforcement of laws and arrests....but some of those arrests are gonna turn violent and the police are gonna shoot someone and the circle will keep going round and round. Indeed.
We've never stood arm in arm and things have been really bad at times. Now it's just being broadcast live for all to see.
You're right but it goes beyond journalism. Social media is arguably a more destructive influence. It rewards tribalism, virtue signaling, doxing, bullying, conspiracy theorists.
Remember the shootings here in San Bernardino around Christmas a few years ago ? The bad guys didn't own those guns. He got them from a buddy in Riverside. The ATF and FBI were all over that guy within 48 hours. I think he's still in jail.
The other thing is how many people actually are still blind to the media narratives? This year has been extremely eye-opening for me regarding media malfeasance. I think many people see through their forced narratives and BS. But the vocal, culturally dominant minority(?) does not. That's the problem. Journalism has abandoned all pretense of objectivity and is pure virtue signaling. And the politicians feed the narratives even more. Politics is no longer about policy. It's entirely virtue signaling. Virtue signaling IS the policy now.
You need social media's replacement to the shortened attention spanned masses. Whatever that is...it likely isn't going to help either. Legalizing THC and psilocybin would go a long way to help mellow people the fuck out. But seeing as how our corporate masters cant have natural remedies as opposed to pills that make them bank instead, you're correct. We're fucked.
Objectivity and facts don't make money. Clicks and catchy headlines that lead to articles that are painful to read, and sometimes a comment section do.
All of this has gone too far too fast. This is a nightmare and it's just growing. The NRA, the pro-2nd amendment mindset and politicians are accountable and responsible for this outrage against humanity. If you're not out in the wilderness shooting game in order to survive you do not need an arsenal of weapons in your possession. This makes me sick and livid. There is absolutely no reason why anyone needs to own an assault weapon. Not one reason in the world. If you do own one you are part of the problem. The States needs to get a handle on this crisis and stop letting politicians tell you what you can and can't do.
NBA players now boycotting the playoffs. Maybe I'm naive but I think this accomplishes nothing other than... virtue signal. Their hypocrisy kills me. Remember how they refused to criticize China's human rights violations and support Hong Kong protesters? Also, I'd like to hear them come out in support of the Uighurs. But they're too cowardly.
