does this make Hall more likely to be available? Edmonton could use a big F to help protect and ease McDavid in to the league.
i'll bet Hanifin is ok w/ Edmonton winning.

The worst thing for Leafs fans is that if we didn't try to spoil Ottawa (and fail) and a couple late comebacks late, we would have won the lottery. I'm glad we didn't drop in the lottery but the Oilers winning is the worst thing for the LEafs next to dropping. Strome will likely be gone to Arizona.

McDavid looked sad when he heard the news.

I think McDavid probably wanted to go to either the leafs or sabres to be close to home, he's still a kid and doesn't want to move away too far from home, edmonton's in the middle of nowhere and friggin cold. I look at it going like this, McDavid, Eichel, Marner, Strome, Hanafin. Either way, marner or strome, are both good players for the leafs.

This opens a lot of options for the oilers, so many it's not funny. How do they afford that core in a couple of years? Goalie would have to be their number one priority now, no more screwing around with scrivens and these junior B goalies.

  10. this blows.

I'm glad AZ didn't get McDavid and I'm glad he is going to the WC. It's interesting that he's going to where Wayne Gretzky played his first NHL game. The Oil have been in turmoil but their fans deserve to be happy, and I'm glad about that

I am not saying I expect this; it's just an observation. The only team in a position to even be considered for a trade for #1 are the Sabres. It would cost them Eichel, the NYI 1st, and a d-man, (and probably then some).

  14. Actually the Hurricanes have options to trade with the Oilers. You need a big forward? Jordon Staal, Need a Goalie? Khudobin, Need another scorer? Skinner, drop to 5th in the draft to get a Defenseman? I can see a package of Staal, Khudobin, the Canes 1st and Possibly and I hate saying this in the very worse way, Victor Rask, for McDavid and the Oilers 2nd round pick.

What did EDM get for Gretzsky?

And, they only traded him because the owner was stoned. They do not have to trade McDavid, and they won't. I was not making a trade proposal; I am saying the only team in the discussion is the team that holds the rights to Eichel. And even then, the extra costs would be painful. I was pointing out why EDM will not trade this pick.

hate to say it Mikey but Im w/ Joe on this. Khudobin has next to no trade value. Decent backups are a dime a dozen and Edmonton always has 2. Their problem is that they never get a true #1 and I don't think Ward is the answer for them in that regard either. Jordan Staal's contract is too tough to take on. Victor Rask + future 1sts + more + more?..you get my drift. I don't see it happening.
The Edmonton lennie express, aka The McDavid Oil Train of Hope already fired up and running on all cylinders. I can't see them making a deal at all.

just read Dan's post. what he said ^.

If the oilers were to trade mcDavid, how do they take the ice next year without being pelted with whatever.

Auston Matthews (C- from Arizona, USNTDP) and Jacob Chyrchrun (D- from Florida, Sarnia) are considered 2 of the top 3 prospects for the 2016 draft. No denying that the game is growing in the U.S. I think Seth Jones has some younger brothers that are supposed to be pretty good as well. Just naming these guys because they're from non traditional hockey states. Chychrun played for Team Ontario in international play so Im assuming he must have dual citizenship. Once a player decides who he will play for at the WJC level he is tied to that country moving forward, at least thats how it went for Galchenyuk.

  20. What do the Oilers do if McDaivd tells them he will not go to Edmonton he will enroll in college first. And what the Buffalo GM stated after the draft I wouldn't blame Eichel if he did the same with the Sabres. Everyone thinks the Oilers have the upper hand, but McDavid can put a lot of pressure on them by Signing a letter of intent with a top college. If I'm not wrong after his Junior year he becomes a free agent.
