4 pt night for sceviour, he scored that night against the leafs too. At 27, he's been around, I'm pretty sure he's having the best game of his career tonight.

The Sens are sending Thomas Chabot back to Saint Johns of the QMJHL.

the Flyers had 9 players at the World Juniors. 5 more than any other team. Their goalie Hart did very well and was named Best Goalie of the Tournament. Hope to see some of these guys in South Philly in a few years. Lord knows they need the help!

Meantime, there was a study done by some magazine naming the Top 100 players playing on a minor league team as of right now. And the Penguins actually had none in the top 100 minors. The future looks bright! *HELP*

Question for all youtz guys. If there was a 2016 redraft would Charlie McAvoy go #3?

Maybe. However I think he would more likely go 4-8.

#1 & #2 were obvious and I doubt they'll ever change in a draft re-do. I think McAvoy was a phenomenal value where he went to you. I think Alex Nylander [del]will[/del] could eventually be deemed the third best player in this draft.

    appreciate the opinion Dan.
i have to think little Tkachuk is in the conversation here, he was a monster this year.
im sure we'll have a much clearer view in another year but i though it would be fun to broach the topic now.

    No

    So who then?
Columbus has the pick, Dubois' production decreased this season and he didn't do himself any favors at the World Juniors.
Maybe they still want a C and take Keller, maybe they want the truculent young Walt, maybe "the other Finn" that they were supposed to take , the young Nylander, who?

I still like Puljujarvi long term.
If a team has any veteran russians on it, I still like that MTL pick in Sergachev ahead of McAvoy at the blueline. Juolevi is a mystery to me, I've never really paid attention to him. I can say the same of several of the forwards drafted around him, I haven't watched for them.

2 things for me when asked that type of question:

First, it's Boston so it's wrong and bad
Second, he's a bigger player in the NCAA, my opinion is tough to shift based on game play for those types. He can skate, so I think his floor is exceptionally high, but I'm not ready to project him as a first pair type until he plays against a regular rotations of players bigger than what he's been used too.

Don't take a it the wrong way, he's an outstanding prospect, that checks just about every box one could ask for, I just can't put him in the top 3 or 5 right now.

I read the NCAA development route differently. College players are often going up against guys older and more mature than the CHL & even the AHL.
The talent level in college is very high. You've got guys in D-III now who would have been D-1 starters 15 years ago.

I like McAvoy a lot. I was more than pleased that Alex Nylander fell to Buffalo, but would have taken Charlie in last year's mock if he were gone. (BTW, Alex will establish himself as the best hockey player in his family within 2-3 years. In five years, I think he'd go #3 in any draft re-do spec.)

Otherwise, it's hard to argue with Bob's assessment of Boston = bad pick.

    H8ers gonna hate.

High end players generally don't spend much time in the AHL, it's not a good place for really high skill guys as a rule, beyond acclimating to the continent.

I would also say some of those Finns have been up against stronger competition than the NCAA too. Puljujarvi saw tougher action in SM Liiga on the whole imo.

I rate the top pro league in SWE, Russia, and FIN ahead of the NCAA in terms of projections. All have merit and flaws.

I'm as high on the NCAA talent level increase as anybody, but I think it's important to note that there are still alot of D1 teams with D-III talent on the ice. They haven't completely gotten around tuition cost for players and geographical restrictions yet.

    Stop sucking then.
Broonz haven't won anything in 4EVA (imagine Mark Walberg saying that for effect)

absolutely. its playing actual men. better than the CHL too. worked well for Auston Matthews and i think the more low key and mature star 17/18 yr olds will use it going forward. Guys like Seguin might die trying that though.

i disagree here. the depth of ncaa hockey has gotten so much better with the Euro invasion over the past 5 years, and its continuing to grow. Seems like more of the Canadian Jr B and USHL kids are better by the time they reach college hockey too. Some star Canadian kids play ncaa now too, more than in the past anyway. Paul Kariya was never the norm in his day. Actually the USHL is a Euro feeder for NCAA hockey. More or less every good D1 program has multiple Euros playing major minutes. Its pushed the level of hockey across the board up. i can say for sure that the D3 hockey played now is better than when i played in the late 90s.

as for the #3 pick for Columbus, W is their strongest position, especially projecting out to the future. At C they dont have all that much. I can somewhat see why they forced the pick for a big C.
on D theyve got some young stars in Werenski and Jones but adding another horse is always welcome, especially if you can ride 3 or 4 guys hard in the postseason like the Hawks do.

fun discussion, I like MacAvoy a lot, not saying he'll necessarily be better than any of the D picked ahead of him but that'll mean that this will be a very special draft, maybe even better than the previous one. lots of hypotheticals in that statement though.
on the other hand im still kind of under the impression that McAvoy is doomed to fail with the way Smithers announced that pick.
