Getting back to his original plans when he informed the preds of his intentions to take it to Aug. 15th. Unless he was totally blown away with what the sabres had to say, it's all up to him, the ball is in his court.

Being harvard educated, I don't see him making a decision based on emotion. He'll talk to all teams, compare notes and then make a calculated decision.

He does not need to speak to any team to make an objective calculated decision. If dollars and term were at stake then that would be true. But they're not.

As someone old school as myself too, I see your point. Maybe he'll have someone draw up a software program to guide him through on the differences between the teams he speaks to. I guess he wants to hear what they have to say about their future plans, the leafs have up and coming guns and better goaltending

maybe im reading these posts incorrectly but there seem to be many certainties being thrown out there. no one here knows what Jimmy Vesey will do and all we have are opinions. what we know is what the Vesey camp has allowed us to know and what guys like Dave Poile have been public about. And dollars are at stake for Vesey, its just a couple years off.

i believe that he will see this through until mid August. maybe he signs in Buffalo, maybe not. maybe he signs there pre- FA, maybe not. maybe he signs in Carolina, Toronto, SJ, Philly, East Kalamazoo, maybe not.

the idea that he and Eichel are long time buddies is a myth. they played together at the 2015 Worlds and thats it as far as I know. there is a fairly significant age gap between the two meaning that they hardly, if ever, played together as kids. not saying they arent close now just that their local "long time" friendship has been greatly and lazily exaggerated by lennie. Vesey grew up playing w/ guys like Ryan Fitzgerald, Matt Grzelyk, Chris Calnan, Mike Vecchione, and Sam Kurker, not Jack Eichel.

they are playing together right now in the local pick up league in Foxborough.
maybe Tom Brady can try his recruiting hand out this time to help the Bruins.

I never put that much into the Eichel Vesey relationship. But they have played together going back four years. The significance, IMO, is two things: 1) Eich is pretty good, and may be the most appealing potential linemate. 2) Unlike players from any other team, it is perfectly legal for Jack to talk to Jimmy about his plans.

Eich is not going to be heavyhanded about this; it has to be Vesey's decision. But, he will freely offer his views on what it's like to play in and for Buffalo. It's in the "this certainly can't hurt, and maybe it'll help" category.

I disagree however when you assert that we cannot draw objective and logical conclusions about what his decision will be based on. And, I disagree that it will be based on contract consideration two years from now - no team is going to make promises (or even outline) what offers may be on the table then.

Vesey has been very forthright in terms of what factors will sway him. The most subjective, by far, of all of these is the quality of the city. Buffalo has a natural disadvantage in the perception of many, especially compared to Boston, Toronto, Chicago, Montr?al, and New York. From what I have seen, Buffalo is not at a disadvantage since Vesey has relations in the area and has been to Buffalo a lot.

I doubt he is going to place great emphasis on the quality of the team's goaltending. If he did, then Boston has the biggest advantage. It is much more likely to be based on the quality of his linemates, especially his pivot. Buffalo has an advantage here - and the fact that they've been acquaintances for several years is just a bit of icing. It makes this (very important) criteria that much easier for him to evaluate.

    for who?

and thats your prerogative. one can arrive at an educated opinion and one can talk in absolutes but those are completely 2 different things. call me a pussy all you want but i think its dangerous when considering credibility.

this is probably our biggest difference of opinion. i think the dollar is what drives him and almost all athletes. success=$$$$, rarely are athletes forthcoming enough to admit this. his linemates, role w/ in the system and quality of minutes are what will ultimately give him the opportunity to thrive and get paid.

the quality of Eichel is hard to compete w/ for other teams but Jimmy Vesey most certainly has closer friendships w/in the league w/in different organizations. I think its lennie being lazy equating two kids from the same state, 3 years apart in age, and assume theyve always been friends. simply not true, especially considering that both of these players were late bloomers. In fact it's more likely that Nolan Vesey and Jack Eichel were friends. same can be said for Noah Hanifin and Jimmy Vesey, probably know one another and have crossed paths and shared lockerrooms but not teammates on real teams.

Not the news anyone wants to see; from The Hockey News:

Matty, you know much about this kid? (I don't.) I see he's committed to BC. I certainly hope he recovers quickly and ideally gets well enough to play hockey again.

Godspeed Michael Campoli. Hope you make a full recovery.

dont know much about him Dan other than he was originally brought in as a solid bottom 3 type D, expected to stay for the full duration or at least 3 years. With the number of players and D that have jumped ship this summer, Campoli is now expected to play top 4 minutes. i dont know anything about the injury or how he's doing since though.

Campoli was released fairly soon after being admitted to the hospital - and he walked out. It certainly sounds encouraging for him.

Assuming that he is able to skate this Fall it's the type of hit that can help a player. This was his first direct exposure to the this level of player. The hit was clean, it's just that Carrier has been doing this now for over two years. If the stretcher and hospitalization were just extreme precautions and Campoli really was just steamrolled by a more mature player then he may be motivated to never have that happen again.

Big turnover on the BC roster; he'll be one to keep an eye on.

Troy Stecher from NDak fighting qumquats looked really good yesterday with a goal and two assists against the mighty oil. Well, he looked damn good. Defensemen scoring for the nucks has been non-existent for 8 years. You should jump on him in dynasty and drop burns, weber and josi!!!

If you are not already a big fan of IIHF WJC hockey, then the next two years will provide your palliative. These are the best young hockey players on the planet and some will skate in an NHL rink a few short months after the tournament. It is compelling hockey, and I feel I am being understated with that comment.

I had the great privilege of attending the 2016* WJC in Helsinki, and it was the most intensely pleasurable sporting experience in my (somewhat long) life. (* The WJC typically starts the day after Christmas and ends about a week into the New Year. It is called for the year the championship game is played.)

The 2017 WJC will be hosted by Toronto and Montreal and I think the championship rounds will be in skinnytown, i.e., T.O. It's worth going on virtue of the venue alone if you've never been there. Toronto is a true world class city and may be the overall most interesting city in N. America.

The real treat will be the 2018 WJC in Buffalo, NY. Buffalo is not, ahem, a world class city, but it knows how to throw a great hockey party. That's what it's going to be, an intensely pleasurable hockey party.

For the first time ever there will be an outdoor tilt during a W JC Tourney. On Dec. 29, 2017 the USA will face Canada at the New Era Stadium (formerly The Ralph, and still the Bills home).

Big party in Buffalo: December 26, 2017 to January 5, 2018! Be there.

BTW, we Muricans have to do our part to make sure that the [del]Ralph[/del], err [del]New Era[/del], The Cap is not stuffed with Canucks. They like to flood the border to take advantage of Buffalo's exceptional culinary delights*.

All Muricans reading this post are therefore ordered to be at the outdoor game so that those Canadaderers know it's a home game for the U.S.A.

(* That's actually true, Buffalo is a hidden gem among foodie towns around the continent.)

The anchor bar has crossed the border, in buffalo you have to know where to go, you can't miss going to franklin. I'm not sure I'm in town during that week, I'm planning a getaway somewhere down south in the hot sun. Not booked yet, but I'll definetly take in some games if I don't go.

Marchessault 6 goals so far, not bad for a 25 year old undrafted player.
