    Patrik Laine named WC MVP.

Matthews is still the pick and don't hesitate Shanny.
Maybe trade all your other picks to Winnipeg so you can grab both of those kids.

Leafs first ever 1st overall #17 Wendel Clark X (2nd 1st overall) = #34 Auston Matthews, the math works out.

#34 is such a weird number for a F, especially a young star. i give the kid credit for playing by his own rules, the number not really a big deal but playing overseas as a N.American kid is.

I think because he comes from way down south, he's a bit of an island when it comes to the ncaaa program and USA hockey, blame it on gary's sunbelt agenda.

    thats a good good point.

You mean the agenda that pandered to small Canadian markets and propped them up and pretty much subsidized them to a level a franchise like FLA, Dallas, or CAR never needed?

He helped them out when the dollar was low, it's overall better for the league as a whole. You'll never see two tickets including two beers and two hot dogs going for $20 in winnipeg lol.

He didn't help them out, he saved their frozen arses.

CGY and EDM were dead in the water (when the ice thawed). They're still of the two biggest beneficiaries of the last 2 lockouts because Canadian markets are so tied to gate receipts.

    All Hail Gary

I meant to put the sunbelt agenda in a positive way, if a player like auston matthews are the fruits of the labour, how can you argue it. Takes a lot of time and patience, the most important thing is to have solid ownership. No denying that calgary and winnipeg are small narkets, but when almost 100% of your population wants the hockey team there, you have to find ways to make it work, its best for the image of the league.

I think we're all glad CGY, WPG, and EDM are on solid footing...even Melnyk's Senaturds (is that phrase still in?).

I didn't take what you wrote as some sort of condemnation of warm weather hockey.
I've been thinking much on Gary these days so I was redirecting the train that way. More fun to watch the draft during the "bettman sux" chants if we're thinking about it ahead of time.

With football on a fierce decline in so many urban areas, I think we'll see some more hockey players over the next decade. Hopefully there are a few elite ones.

Here's to hoping Matthews doesn't turn into the Yak!

I have no idea who Johansson and Lundberg are. Lundberg looks like an abrasive depth guy.

Kempny is the kind of blueliner that a team normally has to find by targeting a declining vet and then sign to a "cap friendly" $1.5-3MM contract. Instead the Hawks get a good one at a lot less, and with a little luck may actually become a top-four guy in time.

It's signing players like him that have made Chicago relevant every single year and why they'll likely be in the hunt for the SC again next season.

12 points for marner in 2 games and 2 periods in the memorial cup so far.

Only 12 weeks until Vesey signs somewhere.

Chicago was in on mike Reilly until the last minute last year. I wonder how high Chicago is on Vesey's list. Maybe that Miller contract in Boston has him seeing dollar signs all over the place.

just heard that Vesey might like to play w/ Eichel in Buffalo. that would be a huge score for them.

    Where did you hear that?
