Gartieg was a senior and undrafted.

i don't think players that have yet to make the NHL will be expansion draft eligible Dan. I'll bet that many young fringe AHL/NHLers will spend the entire year in the minors next season for this reason.

That's going to depend on age and where and when they signed their ELC.

the rules have yet to be officially announced but i have a hard time believing that a player that has never played in the NHL will be eligible for the expansion draft. hasn't happened in the past. there's even speculation that 2nd year pros will be exempt after next year.

I've heard the 2nd year players will be exempt. I want the nucks to win the lotto and trade with Arizona. win win.

ELCs will be protected. Players on their 2nd or 3rd contract may be eligible.

The rules will be tricky for a few players because "years" defined in the CBA and what we consider experience aren't always the same. Goalie rules will be different from skaters.

    Fuck Toronto btw.

the delay in the interviews w/ Matthews was brutal. I'm giving the kid the benefit of the doubt that the awkwardness was on TSN's part and the delay.

and the Bruins got fucked again.
we need to get Gregory and Papa Campbell in our back pocket again.

Already heard a bunch of comparisons to Chicago.

Chicago benefited from timing and the rule set but they never executed a tank, that's a huge misconception. WWW was trying to save money, he wasn't tanking for picks ever. He would never admit to losing to his season ticket holders or sponsors and he would never allow a model to support deliberately losing. He regularly advocated models that saved money. There is a huge difference between cheaparses and tank commanders.

Plenty of other franchises tanked for monetary reasons and gms tried to get something from the burning ship, it was nothing like Toronto has done in terms of tanking from day 1 through day 190. I don't blame Toronto, I just think many of the comparisons have been incredibly lazy.

Since Toronto is forcing Lennie to spread the bs more than it would have spread on its own, I say FUCK Toronto.

Well, with that in mind, I have more respect for a team that tanks vs. one that is simply inept and then gets lucky.

WWW did his best to almost destroy an original six franchise, he totally alienated the fanbase. The leafs had to take steps backwards in order to go forward, they had no choice but to undo the bad contracts and players that were forced into roles they didn't fit into.

I think the delay was because he was in helsinki.

I'm sure. just that the interview was so bad. the delay and the fact that he's a kid and not used to the limelight and being in front of such a big camera probably didn't help. the guy doing the interview didn't handle it all that well either.

anyone else notice how close Tappen was to Shanny and how she kept leaning in even more? maybe its my imagination.

Absolutely. That's why I can't stand the comparisons. Many of those teams had other massive external pressures or Oiler-ish ineptitude. They lost for reasons other than to get top players.

What Toronto did took planning and skill for a whole year.
What Buffalo did took planning and skill for a whole year.

Chicago went into the 07' season trying to win. They went into 03' and 06' trying to win (04' had almost nothing to do with losing). Hartford tried to win to boost attendance before selling off. Even Washington's "tank" under Wilson was kind of an accident. They didn't go full tank until after the team went on a huge slide. There's a difference between a tank command and a team just managing assets after a team implodes during a year.

Chicago was so incredibly lucky, it almost defies belief. There was no executed plan, it was a joke that stumbled into good fortune.

If WWW didn't die, the triumvirate of Dumas, Pulford, and Tallon would have driven it into the ground like we've seen happen in Colorado or Edmonton. They were set up to start losing more assets in 2009 had Scotty Bowman not jumped in and if McDonough not hired people that could count all the way up to a salary cap number.
