this kid is headed to BU, they have a monster class for this draft.
Keifer Bellows, Clayton Keller, and Charlie Mcavoy should all be 1st rounders and are on their way to become cartoon puppies.

Boston signed D. Vladar, G, to an ELC. There are a few things that make this worth noting:
    - He was, IMO, the second best G in the 2015 draft, but the Caps reached too high to nab the best. Dan'l was the best value pick for G in the draft since they waited to the 3rd.
    - At 6' 6" he's got the size you want, but at 180 lbs. he needs to fill out a bit.
    - This could be one of the cooler names ever.

Why would Boston signed him now when he projects at years away from being NHL ready? Also, Boston is in very enviable shape in their G pipeline; what's the rush? I think the later points to the answer to the question. I think Boston plans to move one of their prospect netminders, (Sweeney may already have the outlines of a deal done). I think Subban may be the most likely to move since he commands the most value right now.

    good stuff Dan.
hoping you're right about a possible move??..i become giddy thinking about an NHL caliber defenseman on the roster. not that I'm hoping Subban gets moved, just that the glut in net will bring some needed assets.

With an expansion draft coming up, I agree

Canada has a 68.5% chance at winning tonight because that place blew goats at NHL hockey this year.

I'm cheering against the "tank teams".

I hope Toronto, Buffalo, AZ, and NJ lose draft position.

I would love to see Boston win just to see what Sweeney does this offseason.

he'll find a way to trade it down for 3 mid-1sts so that he can go off the board on two of them and give you that a-hole smirk of his he's been wearing for decades now. he always wants you to know that he went to Harvard and he's smarter than you.

id like to see Edmonton win just so we can witness the hysteria afterwards. Coyotes, Canucks or Leafs could win and Id be ok w/ it too.

Personally, I'd like to see the Buffalo Sabres win this.

on one hand the Sabres finished in 30th the previous 2 seasons and could've had Ekblad and McDavid had they won the lottery like they should have.
on the other hand they play in the Atlantic and they got Reinhart and Eichel. the other hand wins in my opinion and Sabres should not win this lottery.

Actually, I think BUF is destined to pick second. I can live with that.

from the sounds of things it wouldn't be as outrageous as once believed if Matthews was available 2nd.

It is rare to have the top-three so well defined. There have been a lot of classes with a well established top-two, but #3 becomes a wildcard.

Because he plays C, and especially if an American team picks first, I expect Auston will go first. Laine is the class of the Finnish forwards, but whoever gets Pullups will be very happy. I could see a Canadian team with a well defined 1C picking Laine over Matthews, though.

I think the most intriguing scenario would be for Arizona to win #2 tonight. They picked D. Strome #3 last year, but he is far from a sure-thing 1C, (predictably IMO). Would they be motivated to trade up one spot to nab their sure-thing 1C and native son?

A move up one spot would not be prohibitively expensive; especially if some team like Buffalo or the Oil, (already endowed with their 1C). For this reason I'd like to see the Yotes at #2 after tonight. It would add drama in the weeks leading up to the draft.

Of course, if A. Matthews were 2 days older he would have been draft eligible in 2015 and Arizona would still be sporting a rock-hard rosco.

Canucks sign Goalie Michael Garteig of Quinnipiac who was 32-4-7, 1.91 GAA, .924 save percentage. Good depth signing.

Drake Cagguila of North Dakota was in Vancouver this week.

Curious; these goalie signings. Thatcher is different since he is obviously tracking to be an NHLer, and almost certainly a starter at that. But at least three G's have recently moved from the NCAA to their ELC. None of them seem ready for the NHL and two of the three teams have solid prospects in front of them on the depth chart. (Well, Kasdorf has prospects in front of him in BUF; they're just not as good as the prospects in VAN & BOS.)

With no certainty of an expansion draft it seems a bit frantic.
