Don't pay too much attention to the rumors unless somebody claims to have a good source.

Van is a destination because of Boeser
Buf is a destination because they said they want him and had him at prospect camp in 14'
Chicago is a destination because of Schmaltz and johnson
PHI is a destination because of Hakstol
There are another 11 orgs with strong recent ties to other franchises.
NYR will always be in the mix.

He and his agent probably have to get a handle on where other players land too.

 

I would not categorize my comments tying Caggiula and the Sabres as rumor. It was rank boosterism based on what I would like to see happen. Drake is speaking to a lot of teams; that is not a rumor. And he will sign with the team that he feels gives him the best fit and opportunity. Good for him; he's put himself in this position.

I hope it's Buffalo. I am pleased that, as a matter of fact, the Sabres are still on his possibility list. But I have no idea where he's going to end up.

Caggiula is one of the top UDFA targets so there were many media comments and stories that I was addressing.

I think Drake's decision could come as early as next week, but he has the leverage so it may be prudent for him to wait until after the 30th to know the draft lottery outcome. If some team on his list jumps up to #1 and therefore Matthews, then that team becomes a better fit in a hurry.

Meanwhile while it's true that every team is interested in him, it is also true that he has eliminated all but about six teams from consideration. I know BUF is one that is still on his list.
