Report: Jimmy Vesey will sign with Boston Bruins

The future of college hockey star Jimmy Vesey remains a hot topic days after it became public knowledge that the Harvard University winger will be turning down the Nashville Predators? offer and testing free agency instead.

Citing ?an extremely well-placed source within the Boston-area college hockey community,? the Boston Herald reported Wednesday that Vesey will sign with the Boston Bruins once the Predators lose rights to the player on Aug. 15.

A native of North Reading, Mass., the 22-year-old Vesey grew up a Bruins fan. The B?s general manager, Don Sweeney, also graduated from Harvard, playing four seasons on the Crimson blue-line.

Boston and Toronto are the two teams getting the most noise.

Does he let himself risk getting buried to fulfill a lifelong dream playing for the Bruins?
Does he choose the family first route and secure his dad and bro a NHL contract by signing in Toronto

...Or does he do what Dave Starman https://twitter.com/dstarmanhockey?lang=en suggested in an interview a few weeks ago? He said Jimmy's top choice was Chicago.

Other than that Starman comment, there's been no link to Vesey and Chicago. That would be ditchtastic if NAS lost him to a divisional team. The mustard packets would be pissed.

I've been sorting of watching the OHL draft while doing paperwork. noticed some of these picks are getting around import status.
#6 overall- Danil Antrpoov, 7-Kirill Nizhnikov, 8-Pavel Gogolev.
Assuming they come over a year or 2 beforehand and play bantam hockey in ONtario somewhere and are considered local.

This can create some very whacky situations, especially for any player that is owned by a KHL team. If they go to the CHL, then get drafted by the NHL, the NHL team may have to keep him on the big club roster even though in virtually all cases they'd be better off with more development.

If the player isn't 20 then he cannot be sent to the AHL, but if he's returned to the CHL, his KHL team could claim him. That is the reason N. Zadarov spent a year in Buffalo. I'm not going to say this ruined Zads, but it probably was not best for his career. It didn't kill the Sabres either because they did very well in the trade. Still, its something to bear in mind with the Russians skating in the CHL.

Michigan and BC gonna be dumpster diving next year. Santini I can see, its Wood jumping that is a huge surprise. that one really blindsided everyone considering his circumstances coming in.

    Didn't blindside me.

you called something to the effect a little while back Dan. but he still could've played next year and been signed by NJ. i can understand NJ trying to protect their investment and not get NCAA loophole'd. i don't think this is the right choice for the kid. trying to not be biased in saying that, not sure i can.
i'll tell you this though, it blindsided the BC people. he could've played last year and chose not to based on high school academic merits meaning that he gave up a year of NCAA progression for MassHS hockey. he was also originally slated to go to Brown years back but backed out. the thinking was that he was very much invested in fulfilling his degree requirements or as much of them as possible. Cory Schneider was similar in that regard where he probably could've, maybe even should've, left after his Soph year but stayed another year and tried to expedite his course load. also Wood's father Randy played in the NHL after 4 years at Yale.
Either way I think this kid is going to adapt well to the NHL in due time.

I wonder what Santini is gonna bring. I think that he could become a really strong 3rd pair type of guy.

I'm curious why a smart kid would give up a year of college life and the freedom to sign with any team he wants for what will most likely be a winter in Albany, NY. I definitely understand NJ's desire to sign him.

I wonder about Danton Heinen giving up his Junior year at U. Denver for what will likely be a season in Providence.

Meanwhile, Drake Caggiula is in the catbird's seat after his Frozen Four performance. He's vetting offers probably from six to ten teams. I know the Sabres are still in the mix.

brock boeser is returning for his sophomore season in north dakota. seems like he had fun this year and likes winning. not much of that going around in nuckville.

Caggiula is still relatively young too. He'll turn 22 this summer and already have 4 years at NDakota under his belt. He'll be interesting, its such a fine line between being a Jason Krog or a Marty St Louis.

I don't know much about Heinen other than that he can from the BCHL and shocked DU his freshman year, he was slated to redshirt. He'll be a welcome addition in to the mix for the Bruins, thats for sure.

As for Wood, Im just guessing that he's looking at the end of that ELC coming in 2 years from now.

    Underrated strip clubs in Providence.
College is fun, but being broke gets old for most after a while if he's not going to supplement his lifestyle by selling helpers or his wang.

I'm very curious about Caggiula. He can be tied (on paper) to quite a few teams.
