i thought the winnipeg owners bf they got a team including Dale Hawerchuk, did all this research about building a smaller arena to sustain a healthy inflow of tix and season tix holders etc? 300-600 open seats a night may not seem like a lot for the owner, but it is to me over the course of 41 home games etc. this is why i hate expansion bc after a while the allure of a new team wears off and people stop going. they lost a team before and now are doing so-so now etc. not good at all.

WPG will move the Moose to Soo as soon as they can. The price of oil (which is killing the Looney) is giving people fewer discretionary dollars in the oil patch.

?I?ve been around a long time,? Auston Matthew's coach in Zurich, Marc Crawford told TSN 1040 Radio in Vancouver last week. ?I?ve coached a lot of these star players at a young age ? whether it?s Daniel and Henrik (Sedin) at 19 or it?s Jamie Benn, who I had at 19, or it?s Anze Kopitar who I also had at 19. This kid is better than those guys were, and he?s 18.?

Coyotes should find a way to get that pick for so many reasons.

They have a rare position to swing a trade since they are pretty deep in D, and that makes OEL - normally untouchable - a possibility. Two teams with a good chance at #1 also are very deep at F, BUF & EDM. Not that they would not want to add Matthews if they win the sweepstakes, but they'd certainly listen to offers for the top pick if OEL were part of the package.

Bruins had 3 picks last June to take Matthew Barzal and/or Kyle Connor.
as we all know, they went w/ neither.

i understand taking the D but also using 2 picks on Fs but neither being Barzal/Connor?
tsnlennie has Kyle Connor ranked 5th and Barzal 28th among NHL prospects.
the lone Bruin on the list is Zach Senyshyn at 46.

that would be so huge for Edmonton or Buffalo. not a bad idea.

It's Craig Button, I wouldn't sweat the list Matty.

Matthews has to go to Edmonton, the hockey gods will it.

if he doesn't become a Broon that would be the best.

Actually, I was hoping he'd become Sabres' property; or at least the trading chip to bring someone like OEL to Buffalo.

that makes one of us Dan. not looking for a division rival landing that.

I like the direction your team is, (or could be, anyway), headed in. But if Matthews is in the division, then I want his house to be in Clarence, NY. (Probably the highest concentration of current and former NHL'ers n the planet is in little Clarence.)

I think I want a Canadian team to get Matthews. They'll be Lennie and he'll be the puppy or the bunny rabbit. Trainwreck appeal. They'll love him to death.

Well, with six or seven Canadian teams in the lottery, statistically it's likely that he ends up going to Canada. Same for those two big F's in Finland.

There are always a handful of college players that slip through the draft net. Last year the Sabres were in on, but lost, two of them: Casey Bailey* (TOR, now OTT), and G Casey O'Connor (OTT). Terry Pegula literally - almost - owns the Penn State program where Bailey skated. They wisely IMO wouldn't bow to his demand to be brought directly to the NHL so he signed with the Leafs.

This year Drake Caggiula, U. No. Dak., is going to be hotly pursued. He has progressed nicely in college and is now well over a 1 PT/G player. He projects - at 5' 10" & 185 lbs. - to a nice bottom six F in time.

This year Buffalo may have an advantage. First, Drake knows the org., having been a development camp invitee. Second, he hails from about two hours from BUF in S. Ont. Third, if the Fighting [del]Sioux[/del] Hawks make it to the Frozen Four then he can jump directly to the NHL without burning a year off his ELC. He's not ready for the NHL, but that is extremely alluring for a prospect. Sign him up, and go Hawks!

I don't like him already. Disingenuous stuff from the Player's tribune...again. I still enjoy the pub, but it's more of a PR tool

He paints the picture that he passed up a chance to play int he NHL and then said that he had made up his mind already. No mention of his commitment to Nashville or FA either. No mention of the mentoring he got for a career path as a pro and he's all but assured himself of NHL success. No mention that mom can get a bigger kitchen if he gets a UDFA contract instead of the standard 2-way ELC had he signed as junior.

I still want the Hawks to land him, but he's probably ending up in Toronto or near within a few hours of home.
