His inability to turn the pages of that playbook during the season is a big problem too.
Are you telling me I should probably cancel those hotel reservations in February?

    3 & out - 6 yards
    3 & out - 8 yards
    3 & out - 9 yards
    3 & out - 5 yards

0 1st downs in 6 drives before the TD to Rodney Adams

Mixed with "I was brought in to be the starter" and the whole "QB1" shit during spring, I'll disagree and say it was entirely warranted. Dalton's apparently a super nice guy, so there's that.

I especially love how Dalton will count against the cap in 22 and 23 because Pace found out what void years are to help his grotesque cap mismanagement.

Fair response, but there's nothing--even with depleted OL--that the bears can seemingly do right. They aren't condensing and just running behind Whitehair/Mustipher/Bars. No basic play action. No rhythm, no flow--even of the simple stuff. Lots of pass plays get reps for the depleted OL. That's the best I can come up with. And the "be you" BS.

We drew straws on who was going to tell you and BWW drew shortest, but you figured it out so...:boss:

I may be stupit, but I'm not stupit all the way. ;)

Agreed with everyone on these last few posts. To the points of Nagy's offense and Dalton's performance:

Nagy has never shown an understanding of the NFL preseason. And I'm not just saying that he doesn't show his hand in playcalling, I'm saying that Nagy genuinely doesn't understand how to use the NFL preseason for any sort of benefit whatsoever. It's a complete waste of time for this team, because its head coach is completely useless and incompetent. And no, we have no idea what Nagy's offense is supposed to be, and I don't think he knows either.

As to Dalton... we know what he is. And this offense certainly isn't going to elevate him. I don't personally understand how he's an upgrade over Nick Foles, but... at this point, I'm not going to boo whatever tackling dummy is keeping Justin Fields from getting stretchered behind this offensive line. Let Dalton go out there and risk his life. Save Fields for whenever Pace and Nagy are finally abandoned by security and run out of town with torches and pitchforks.

This is something i nearly brought up earlier this offseason. The way Pace is increasingly having draw up contracts with void years in order to manage his way around cap management mistakes already made is a huge deal and no one seems to be talking about it. Im not even sure the useless Chicago media is aware of it.

Dalton is a great example, $7.5mil of wasted cap space over 2 years right there. Khalil Mack is another, $3mil in wasted cap. Trevathan's contract is horrible, the Bears will be eating cap 3 YEARS after he's gone, $2.4mil, $2.4, $1.7mil.

Eddie Jackson's contract is also pretty stinky. Initial cap hits of like 3 & 5 mil then backloads the ass out of it with hits of $15mil, $17mil & $18mil. Oh and a $1.6mil void year cherry on top. EJax already feels nailed on for a restructure attempt next offseason that will just push the pain down the road a bit.

And thats just a few of the guys who are still on the team. The Bears are still eating cap this season over fucking Trey Burton ha!

How prevalent this is around the league i don't know, but this approach to cap management seems like a classic snowball effect. You use void years to create flexibility in the short term, but that gives you less cap space to devote to your current 53 in the medium term, meaning you have to create more void years in order to tread water which creates even less cap space for your 53 in the longer term. One day Pace is going to get his ass fired, and when that day comes he's probably gonna leave the team in cap hell.

I think part of the problem stems from them using the lure of the starters job to get these guys here in the first place. Maybe Glennon didn't need that assurance but i guess it helped Pace setup his master plan to outbid himself in the draft cos no one thought he was drafting a QB early. Either way he got it and the Bears didnt look great when it came out they'd given him that assurance then fucked him over.

Dalton probably wanted to start somewhere and i think he would've got that gig with another sucker, sorry team, if not the Bears. After the bad press re Glennon i imagine there's pressure to keep their word re Dalton. Personally i dont think either is nearly good enough to deserve that kind of guarantee but i suspect thats why its playing out like this.

I brought it up at the end of the offseason thread. Jeremiah Attaochu also is under contract for 2 void years after his 2-year deal is done next year, luckily at lower cap hits than Dalton.

Local media is split. Some truly want to get Ryan Pace and grill the shit out of him. Some love Pace/Bears propaganda central and defend "well they've made the playoffs 2x in the last 3 years." Should the latter be beaten and shot? Yes.

He made $3 million last year and not much of his play said he deserved a raise, unless we're talking about the vicious hit that ended his year that probably is going to do some brain damage later and that should be paid by Jerry Jones--but I digress.

The only sucker, wait--right "team" here is the one who needed to give him $10 million when I doubt other teams were giving him half of that to be a backup. Because the league knows what Andy Dalton is at this point of his career.

I'll disagree. I understand Glennon/Mitch, because after you paid Glen-NON (John Gruden voice) his glorified 1 year deal then took the 1st QB of 2017, the argument can be made you wanted the best of both worlds. For the #2 pick/1st QB of the draft to be the face of the franchise or the mentally disabled giraffe who "flashed" (nobody knows how/where) in Tampa hold him back because he's playing too well with his 1 shot. We then know what happened on Glennon's 1st snap and the "pressure" was put on Glennon all by himself.

I believe it has more to do with justifying spending all that money than it does to keep faith with Dalton, now if Dalton has a problem with that show him the video of that last performance. Do what's right for the fans and fuck his feelings. shutterstock_5885876aa.jpg
