But . . . The Ravens have yet to be awarded a comp pick for Bethel. As far as I know, no team has been awarded any comp picks yet, have they?

No they haven't, but these front offices know the drill by now. You don't accumulate 8 more comp picks than any team in the league despite not existing the first two years the bonus was introduced without figuring out the formula.

While I admit I'm not all knowing about comp picks, I do know that it's based on free agents lost offset by free agents signed and that the draft round is determined by some double ought spy formula that isn't shared outside of the NFL offices.

Even using the link you provided, Bethel isn't listed as a qualifying free agent. I highly doubt the Ravens can get a comp pick because they cut a player (regardless of the reason why they cut him).

That said, I don't think the Bears board is the place for a Ravens fan and Browns fan to argue about it.

Oh, they already removed Bethel which is why he isn't there. I think it's ok to discuss though since we were only discussing the Ravens move in a way to help explain the potential thought process in cutting Davis for the Bears. I'm all good though.

If Pace doesn't cut him he gets a massive vote of no confidence from me.

This would be the moment I would declare Pace a failure. I know it's a 4th round pick....but it's a 4th round pick this team could desperately use.

The Bears would get a comp pick because releasing Davis will allow them the award for Amos leaving and going to the Packers.

Then I stand corrected. It just sounds a little funky that a team (the Bears) would receive a comp pick for cutting a veteran (Davis) who, at one time, offset the loss of a different veteran (Amos). Amos chose to leave as a free agent. Davis, on the other hand - if cut, didn't.

I'm surprised the NFLPA signed off in the CBA to a rule that allows a team to cut a veteran and reap the benefit of adding his roster spot replacement with a cheaper, mid-round draft pick.

The whole comp pick system is odd to me. It’s never really made sense.

Mike Davis has indeed been released today.

BWW beat me to it. Evidently the comp pick formula will improve a 5th to a 4th round pick.

While it’s not a 3rd, a 4th round pick is a player with a caliber in between a Jeremy Langford and an Eddie Jackson.

Bears need as much draft capital as possible. They need an OT, multiple TEs (everybody except this PS kid they got from Washington is useless), quarterback, ILB, and 5 tech.

When you release the FA you signed he no longer counts against you as a FA signing. The pick teams gain is what they would have earned if they never had signed him in the first place.

You do understand the difference between a player choosing to leave as a free agent and a player being cut, right?

    I don't get it.

I thought the size of the contract the player signs with another team played a role in getting a comp pick. I was sure we've noted in the past that the Bears didn't get a comp pick for a player who signed a small time deal elsewhere.

Yet this is suggesting some kind of equivalence between Davis and Amos. In terms of the relative contracts they signed, there is no equivalence at all. Don't get it.

Probably not but hey thanks for stopping by ;)
This was what I always thought.
I always liked McCarron it seems like that would be a team-friendly contract. What are some thoughts on him? From what I've seen he's miles ahead of Turdisky.

@babyfan could you unpin this thread please, its been inactive for nearly a year now and is choking up the top of the Bears page.

Same thing goes for the roster updates 2020 thread which has also been inactive a very long time.

You are the mod around here baby, shouldn't need us to remind you to keep your house in order.

    Thank you.

It is officially unpinned now @EvertonBears :) I unpinned the updates thread and 2 others yesterday but I missed this one. Well, to be honest, I thought it was a bloody good thread so I left it pinned.

Ya bloody bastard. Consider this house cleaned :smokey: :boss::SEP::D

Actually, why not? I think it's a great idea to move around the boards a little because otherwise same-side thinking can get a little boring.

    @tunafat my office please.

We have Lyman. I still believe that members can interact with each other here with civility. The times when I don't think that is possible is when another member comes on to the board, any board, to try to make people angry. Communication and civility are the keys. If you have something to offer than the door is open and will stay open.

What did I do now? I mean I agreed that it wasn't the best place for Browns and Ravens fans to be having a back and forth, it's not as I know little of their rosters. I also thanked them for stopping by now if that isn't tossing a friggin olive branch of civility nothing is.
It was that Everton that went all Karen on you, and yet poor tuna gets called into the office....yet again.

I brought some sammiches into work that day and I thought you'd have enjoyed a couple with a side of chips and a beer ... but I suppose they're still fresh enough to eat now if you'd like? ♥

    EV IS KAREN???
    Aha. That explains it. LOL
