in their 14 titles the attendence for divisional winning games and some opening round games were and still are terrible. why? some games it was 25% empty. why?
I didn't live there then. When I went to games in the 70's-80's I used to buy $2.00 general admission tickets and sit in the expensive ticket seats because nobody was at the game, maybe 3000 people total. But I got to see some great players like Nolan Ryan twice, Fernando Valenzaela. I think the Braves lost every game I went to except the one where Pete Rose lost his hitting streak. That one the Braves won 16-4.
utley resigned for 2 yrs at $13.5 per. not great but better than the 3 yrs he wanted. no 2b prospects out there and no decent free agents at 2b.
dont recall that. i was too busy with the downfall of the phillies with john felske as their manager and shane rawling as their all-star representative one year. ugh.
it was 84, i think. the braves had been winning their division/NL over and over again, yet couldn't get over the hump and win the series. the year before, iirc, they were heavy favorites to win it all, and came up short yet again. and thus, the ad campaign was born. i never had anything against dale murphy, or any of his teammates, but i always got a smile when they failed. consider it payback for calling themselves "America's Team".
sad that murphy in his last year on the hall of fame ballot got 14% of the vote. back to back mvps, played in a huge park and no respect to playing clean for his career! sad.
The Phillies need to retool. They are asking too much for one of top pitchers that's having a bad year. You have to ask for less and not more when a player is having a bad year. And he's not a young guy either!
yeah bc hamels has a bad elbow now and won't be ready for opening day. they don't pay beltran or ellsbury and get byrd and now when they said they were out of money give burnett $16 mil? jesus man! the team needed burnett but not for that coin. they still need bats and now hamels health is a monster concern!
bc pitt gave it all to mccutchen. haha. pitts pitching isnt that great and gerritt cole wasnt that lights out. a little surprising.
At least Pittsburgh made the playoffs and AJ had a sub .500 pitcher with an above 3.00 ERA last year. His performance in the playoffs left something to be desired. The only major plus was his strike outs. I can promise he was a loss but not a terrible can't come back from loss. They have Jameson Taillon in the due up this year and they still have a decent rotation. If they can get better in run support then they will be fine.
