https://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2...-flyers-sign-ivan-provorov-six-year-contract/ Flyers resigned Provorov. 6 yrs 6.75 cap hit $40 mil. if he can turn it around, i like the deal. if he sucks, 6 yrs is a long time.
It's a calculated risk by Philly. They bought up some UFA years, (Gardiner has already aged past that point). Given the way contracts have gone for young D, Philly is hoping & betting that he continues to develop into the top pair D that he appears to be heading. If he does, this contract could look extremely attractive over the full term. Unlike a lot of the RFA's, Provorov was willing to give up those UFA years, and was paid more because of the term.
Agents are looking at long-term deals for clients with an automatic 15% bump for inflation due to the new tv deal. A breakout into 40 pt territory carrying through 2025 is a big win for philly. On the other hand, if he stays at a 25 pt clip, you can't deal him unless you take part of the deal.
he's better than that. he had a rough year, i think a bridge to see how he responds this year wouldve been a better move all around instead of investing in a 6 yr extension.
I think Philly's D is a team strength, (and IMO, I'm being very under-stated with that comment). I think that bodes well for every individual on their D since individuals do not operate in a vacuum, but rather collectively. I think it was a solid bet on their part to lock him up long term. If he develops then this deal helps the team out. But, of course, there is a risk if last year's step back was a harbinger of individual inefficiency. Personally, I do not think that's the case and I like the contract. A lot.

Philly is locking young players up for longer terms than others are giving to their RFA's. I think there's two reasons behind that: - Their RFA's are willing to be assured of more now rather than "betting on themselves" with shorter term bridge deals (and less AAV). Personally, I think these players may live to regret their choices. - They can. What I mean by that is that Philly has the cap space to do this, and the longer deals may make these contracts into "bargains" down the line. Other teams have to go the bridge path in order to juggle their cap space; that is not an issue for Philly.
i hope it produces wins on the ice Dan? And they have 2 prospects chomping at the bit to play this year too, so TK was lucky to get a deal done before the season started and one of the young kids taking his place full time. Hope TK pours on the goals now and becomes a 30+ goal scorer.
