oh the boo birds will be out tonight for sure. haha. like an ex-athlete coming back to their old team, he's the enemy now. he will get boos. now Jayson Werth got a standing O when he came back to town, but I didn't agree with that and i sat in my seat the entire at-bat. he bashed management and didn't thank the fans like other ex-phillies players did. he was pissed they signed Cliff Lee and he and Lee were friends and Lee didn't tell him he was coming to Philly. Well boo hoo.

The Flyers are dumping Kate Smith because of racist songs she sang early in her career. They have covered up her statue and will no longer be playing her rendition of "God Bless America."
The NY Yankees will also be doing the same thing

You're correct. PC is a form of censorship intended to force everyone to accept the "moral" principles of the self-appointed and self-absorbed opinions of a few. It is immoral and it is uncorrect, but it is political.

 

In her defense, she didn't actually write the song and was a 24 year old aspiring singer at the time. That's the music business, they tell you they want you to sing a certain song, you have to tow the line or else, especially in 1931.

The co-writer of the song was a black man and activist. THE SONG WAS WRITTEN AS SATIRE!

Smith won the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award, which is the highest civilian honor. She raised $500-600 million in War Bonds in WWII and traveled over 550,000 miles to entertain US troops in WWII. She deserved better than this.

Whether or not she wrote the songs, she definitely sang them as well as many other 'white' people... it was a cultural growth period in this country that was and in some ways remains racist and segregated to this very day.

Once this was becoming 'news' via the internet and other media, the Yankees and Flyers really had no choice but to pull her from the scene do to the really bigger problems it may have created down the road by rebel-rowzers with nothing better to do. I don't think this is an issue of who's right or wrong, but a publicity nightmare avoided because of blood thirsty idiots out there with 'agendas'.

I cant blame the Yankees or the Flyers for doing what they did, I actually think it was a wise move and a necessary one.

but Smith died years ago. I can see doing this if she was alive, but she's not. Why tread on her name, her reputation and legacy because that's all this is doing !
