Do the additions of Lecavalier and Emery make the Flyers a team built more for a deep playoff run? How do they stack up defensively?
those two will help but I think defense is the Achilles heel of this team. I think they may try to make a trade to shore it up. potentially if healthy Streit and Timonen although getting long in the tooth could provide some solid punch from the backend. but age and brittleness Im sure will play a part. Schenn has been a HUGE dissappointment after being drafted I think 7th overall. hes a stay at home type....that sometimes I think needs to do just that. Gustafson, Gervais are just cheap plug ins. Gistafson never really developed either. after the top two(if they can remain healthy) its not too good at all. Pronger Im sure is all but done unfortunately. he would totally change things if he was able to play but that ship I think has sailed. Im not an Emery fan but for that price Ill take my chances. besides Mason sucks so Emery is the best chance the Flyers have. with that defense in front of him hes gonna have to be very good. I think he only signed a one year deal so he'll be looking to play well for a new contract. I see a 6th or 7th seed but Im hoping for much more. Love the Flyers - except when they play the Wings. I look forward very much to seeing them more than once every other year. Cant wait

Some of those pictures are funny. I'm NOT a real big Fleury believer or fan. I think he is a byproduct of the team in front of him. It is evidenced by the stats of the Pens winning alot more games when they score 3 or more goals. And lose more when they don't score 3 or more. I always thought Tom Barrasso was the same way, a byproduct of the team in front of him. I was never crazy about him either. And he had Lemieux, Jagr, Ron Francis, Kevin Stevens, etc. in front of him. But seriously, Fish. The Flyers trade Bobrovsky and spend a fortune on Bryzgalov until he's about to retire? Let's face the facts. The Flyers would be stuck with Bryzgalov till the end of his days if not for the recent bargaining agreement where you can now buy a player or 2 out every so often. And we all know another team would of never traded for him at that ridiculous price. The point being you shouldn't point fingers when everybody makes mistakes. And we're just talking goalies. I think all goalies make mistakes or have bad nights, no exceptions. The better ones have less while the worse ones have more. And I think the Penguins might lead the league in knocking out Brodeur, if I'm not mistaken. This is not to brag because we all know Brodeur is the face of the Devils and leads almost all the stats for goaltenders and is definately a future HOFer. It just goes to show that every goalie can have a bad night or let in a bad goal. It's human, nobody's perfect. The Flyers are lucky theres a buyout now. The Pens will probably keep Fleury unless he wants a ridiculous raise or a rookie beats him out. Either way, it's tough to find a top-notch goalie. And I will agree that Hextall is no Parent, for sure.
Bob, even though the Pirates had the top picks for many years, they never picked the best player. It was due to the owner (Nutting) who didn't want to spend money when he was already making money with a losing team. This is why he won't sell the team even though they lose every year. Because he makes money anyways. The Pirates have made some real good trades to build up their farm system and now the dividends are starting to pay off. This is why they have a good team this year but don't spend alot. It's the same formula the A's and Rays use. And of course Fish, I could "cough, cough" bring up the Phillies "cough, cough" but I'm not like that. Because I know you luv the Phillies while they don't have a shot at the playoffs this year. Course, as Pirates fans, we're used to that with the owner we have.....
igloo-- why bring in brz in a fleury conversation? whats the connection? bs both being overpaid and both not playing well at many times? i think fleury has stunk since the playoffs vs the flyers. you guys shouldve killed the flyers. fleury gave up so many easy goals and blew more games than brz did. so the flyers bought him out? so? bob wins the vezina? ive been called for homer's head for years on cbs. not my fault homer blows. phils-cough cough? why bc after 23 yrs the pirates are good? dont pull that shit. bandwagon is an ugly term and now everyone in pa is a pirates fan all of a sudden. please. and my debate with cutter was over pirates blowing top 5 draft picks for the last ten years. the phils didnt have any top picks since jd drew and pat burrell in 98 and 99. the phils 08 ws team had 7 draftees on the team. thats how you build a winner. something the phils cant do now and something the pirates didnt do for 23 yrs since barry bonds left town. so enjoy this year. i dont expect the pirates to win for long.
and if have top pick after top pick like tampa did you should be freaking good. all those players and pitcher had to work out eventually. they even drafted josh hamilton #1 overall and had him for 3 yrs till his drug use forced them to cut him. longoria, price, jennings, zobrist, moore and more guys were draftees. gotta be a fool to not make it work with that crew. pirates so the owner didnt draft better players to not pay them? didnt the former #1 overall pick from a few years ago crap out due to arm trouble? so the pirates gave him the money but he got hurt? dont understand how thats on the owner and not bad luck?
