Amen. I think Downie on an expiring contract for Talbot was a steal in the short and long term...as long as he recovers. Even if he doesn't, Paul is going to need all the cap space he can get.
claude needs a wake-up call. He let the tying goal happen. If he covers his man we win the friggin' game.....
you can have Lackey, Thornton,2 1st rnders and Savard, gotta get the money off the cap early in the year. He can scout w/ Pronger....although sadly I believe Savard is still living in the dark, literally and figuratively. But Matt Cooke is reformed so its all good.
well, at least HF doesn't have the Flyers' system ranked 31st.30. Philadelphia Flyers This doesn't mean they can't find some NHL players and it doesn't translate directly to NHL success or the ability to add to the active roster. Basically, they're just saying that the PHI system, taken on the whole, compared to the rest of the league, is the worst.
I love the HF rankings. Its a bit strange though, very opinionated and they seem to count some players as prospects while others in the same exact boat have 'graduated'. For instance, Yakupov has graduated from Edmonton's pool but Galchenyuk is a prospect for Montreal and Huberdeau is a prospect for Fla. The guy just won the Calder but he's a prospect still?
the status (rookie or otherwise) has to do with the date that they wrote the column so everything does shift. They come out with their rankings twice a year. The thing with the rankings is that they are also counting all the players not undercontract which can swell the pool all the way up to 65 players +/- in some cases. No single player is likely to move a team's spot in the rankings more than a few spots since they are counting every non veteran NHL player that a franchise has rights to. One thing I think they do an excellent job with is weighing depth players likely to contribute at the NHL level, like the guys that would be 18-30 on the depth chart. While they're still often seduced by flashy kids, I find the bulk of their analysis on lower prospects pretty good overall. They have a fetish for standouts in the Canadian jrs, goalie prospects, and systems like Detroit's that they've generally overrated for about 7 years now.
everyone loves goalies bob, they just look cool back there. Bruins spent a 1st rounder on Subban just because he has cool pads and will look like Darth Vader when they wear the all black uni.
Jesse Wallin, Darryl Laplante, your boy Anders Eriksson, Thomas McCollum, Maxim Kuznetsov, Curtis Bowen,Yan Golubovsky, Aaron Miller and although I hate to say it because hes a ND alum Im sure Riley Sheahan will be on he before long. they havent had high picks in forever but they always have highly rated prospects that most tank it bad. you find a few late round gens and everyone thinks your a genius every year
Exactly, once Franzen clicked a few years ago the assumption was that numerous picks with high ceilings would stick so the pool was often overrated because of past success. I don't think they're any worse at drafting, I just think that after 2005 many more clubs beefed up their front offices and improved their ability to draft, especially in Europe. Everybody caught up. Where a Michael Backlund (CGY) or Berglund (STL) may have fallen to the 3rd round in 2003, they were snagged in the first in 2007 for example. Enroth drafted in the 2nd, might have fallen a few rounds 5 years earlier. Made the previous comment to spite the catfish. I'm cold, had to take it out on somebody. Did they turn the heat on yet catfish?
yes bob finally on tuesday afternoon when everyone complained. the funny thing was the building had heat, just not the top floor, which was our floor. some vent issue. now it's working and im toasty. wasnt daytsuk a late rounder?
jonathannotloui Ericsson was the last pick in his draft. just wanted to bring it back to the Wings again.
