I do Cat. I eat a lot of kale which has the highest percentage of plant protein of any plants. I do NOT eat tofu because I HATEHATEHATE it.

Get your nutrients from source. If you need to add protein to your diet, eat small amounts of high protein fish or meat for every meal. All of your meals should provide you with some protein because that will go towards making you feel fuller all day and then you'll be less inclined to eat foods that are on your restricted list. I don't eat any pre-packaged food because they are, in my opinion, devoid of the exact nutrients I'm looking for. Eat close to the source. Fill your plate with fresh fruit and veggies. Stay on the low end of carbs but make sure you eat some meat/fish at every meal.

Learn to enjoy the changes that you're making to your diet and your lifestyle. It may seem impossible when you're craving chocolate or chips but it's just a matter of practice. Sit down with a bowl of almonds, grapes and berries for your snacks. You'll learn to crave those instead of the sweet or salty foods you were eating before. It's also a matter of portion sizes. The food servings in the restaurants that I have been to in the States are outrageous in size. It's way too much food for anyone to need or eat!! I watch the other patrons who are all overweight stick french fries and deep-fried chicken or fish into their mouths and chomp at that garbage until their plates are empty. Fill your plate with food that is fresh and that has been seasoned with herbs instead of piling salt on it. Stay completely away from deep-fried foods and save that 'treat' for when you've eaten healthy all week. I usually have one day a week where I allow myself a food which is otherwise not on my list. I love milk chocolate for instance but I will only eat a couple of small squares ever ... and usually that only ever happens on Saturdays which is my free day.

I've posted this before but I'm going to do it again. Their are really good guidelines to follow which also ensure you never spend the day tired, crabby and hungry. Make the effort and shop at your local veggie market for your produce and pick out good meats to eat. Stay away from boxes and cans. Stay away from pre-prepared and packaged foods too. It takes effort to eat healthy but in the long run your body and mind will thank you.

Another thing Cat. Look around your community and see if you can find some Tai Chi lessons. They are perfect for someone who is trying to get healthier.

I didn't miss it Cat :) I just don't think that they are very healthy. Now if you ate a handful of raisins, nuts and bits of dark chocolate I'd be all over it!

Bww tell Cat about your training and thoughts on losing weight the healthy way please.

There's no substitute for living an active lifestyle. Doesn't matter what you eat....if you aren't up moving around....you're just waiting to die.

I run every single day. I do lighter strength training 5 days a week.

When I was in my 20's I was really bulky because I did heavy weight lifting....back then I was around 260lbs on a 6'5 frame...mostly muscle with around 8% body fat. Fast forward a few decades and I keep my weight down around 225 to 230 and due to all the running I am lean and currently sit at under 2% body fat. It's helped my back, knees, and feet survive into old age.

As far as my diet....I try to steer away from processed foods and preservatives as much as possible. I watch the intake of sugar and corn syrup and try my hardest to eat a balanced diet. I have never stopped eating red meat or pork because I love them. I just don't eat them quite as much as I once did and I'm smarter about my carb intake. You have to eat carbs...you just have to be choosy about which ones.

If your diet is making you unhappy...change it. Don't ever cut out the foods you truly love....just be smarter and watch your portions. Above all.....stay active. A body in motion tends to stay in motion.

One of my yoga clients stayed after class last night and asked me if I could help her reach some weight goals and to advise her on nutrition. She told me that she eats chocolate bars for breakfast and a big part of her diet is based on white sugar and processed foods. She loves cupcakes and posts about them on her FB almost everyday.

I'm going to work out a manageable diet for her and stress that she needs to eat 5-6 times a day to keep that satiated feeling throughout the day.

Cat, what do you eat for fat in your diet?

I can't eat milk chocolate although I used to love it. Halfway through a chocolate bar I get a really bad headache and I feel sick. Sugar makes me anxious :)

Why those bars in particular @skinny123 ?

Any brand, there's no good brand. I know that it's impossible to live like that, but when you really have to make a change, you really need to do it. I wasn't eating bread for more than a year, but once I reached my goals, I went back to a lot of the things I cut out, but I regulate it where it's just once in a while.

My strongest advice to anyone trying to get healthier is to not restrict their diet but to moderate it. There's nothing wrong with eating the occasional plate of pasta ... just don't over-indulge. Same thing with sweets. There is a balance in life ...
