Thanks for the info, curious to see how he tests. Tough to put a draft round value on him but I think he is going to be solid pickup for some team.
These guys i would consider with first pick Beasley Fowler - frankly liked everyone else better on my list of 1st rd guys except shelton Thompson Anthony Shelton hate taking fat dudes first round but if we take one... Dupree * s ray... Haven't watched yet looks kinda small though Basically give me Beasley Thompson or Anthony If we got Thompson or Anthony in rd 2 I would be thrilled 2nd pick or later pull the trigger on these guys Owagamabe odighizuwa McKinney - meh - falling may be gone for our second pick M Bennett E Harold H Pullard D Wilson Davis Tull heard he was doing things I know zero about him This doesn't include other positions strictly just dl and lb CB and S next list If green beckham was available in second round it would be hard to pass on him otherwise I want defense first 4 rounds 100 percent I want nothing to do with Gregory or perryman Ill pass on kendricks too
And yes David Johnson is good he played against illinois state ( my team / i know d2 ) many times... Stud for sure. D2 or not. Illinois state was runner up though this year in d2... Getting some players of late. Pros that is... Laurent Robinson is probably the only one anyone has ever heard of though. David Johnson is good but illinois states rb just won the best rb award a few days ago over Johnson.
Right now with the first pick, my big board for the #7 pick based upon possibility of availability would be: 1) Gregory 2) Fowler 3) Shelton 4) Peat 5) Beasley 6) Dupree The second round is where it gets a bit harder. Because now several offensive players may need to be brought into view. As stated before--WR is STACKED this draft. So is OT/OG; especially top heavy. Right now my top picks of most likely available 2nd round choices go: 1) Eddie Goldman NT Florida State 2) Paul Dawson LB TCU 3) Cody Prewitt FS Ole Miss 4) Laken Tomlinson OG Duke 5) TJ Clemmings OT Pitt 6) Jordan Phillips NT Oklahoma
Robinson had a couple great years with the Rams and Cowboys. Then I believe he tore up both knees. Unfair. Marshawn Coprich, if I remember correctly? He's a sophomore, no?
Yep coprich but he will be a senior next year. I was just giving isu a shout out. I think for the pro level Johnson has a higher ceiling than coprich. I thought you were all about Thompson.... You don't want him anymore? I really liked what I saw from him. Smooth, makes everything look easy, a natural athlete. I know 7 is a stretch for him for sure. You think he last until our second rounder.
Oh I still would love him. Draws comparisons to Kam Chancellor in terms of size, speed, smarts, and flexibility. Any LB spot and SS? I'd say sign me up. No possible way he falls to the 2nd round. I'm seeing him off the board come Miami at 14 or Houston at 16. I see a lot of mocks projecting him in the 12-20 range. So a *shudders* trade down would be the most likely scenario to get him. I've gotten really big on Paul Dawson though, and think for a flexible 3-4 OLB/ILB/Rush backer in the 2nd round would be prodigious. Of course, I'd love Eli Harold because the 'rush' linebacker is a necessity--but I cant see it happening because I don't think he falls past the Broncos or Colts.
After looking at Walter football I guess I way overvalued stephone Anthony... That said I think he would be a steal at 90 something overall, wow... justin houston was a third rounder not long ago too. same can be said for Hayes pullard wow he is a fluid athlete but other sites have him going way late... At 200 something overall he is a steal too as far as an athlete. Based on WF mocks the bears look like they can get some really good players though. First rd Beasley Fowler Hopefully not shelton Second rd Thompson Harold Green beckham Odighizuwa/Dawson All these guys could go first rd I'm guessing one falls though Third rd Dawson/odighizuwa Bennett Ekpre olomu S Anthony These guys could go in the second minus ekpre probably but one of them will be there I'd bet Someone raised the question who would be this years Jaime Collins ( who I wanted the bears to take) I think it could be Anthony 4th rd Kurtis Drummond Derron smith David Johnson 5th No pick 6th Who knows from here Qwan Alexander? Hayes pullard? 7th The next Tom Brady
Paul Dawson wont fall to the 3rd round. He's leap frogging McKinney in a lot of mocks I'm seeing come early 2nd round, including Walt's. I don't really read Charlie's. This dude's ideas are fucking stupid. He only pays attention to his home team's needs. I like Dawson a LOT better than McKinney. That Alabama just left a sour taste in my mouth with him. They completely made him a non-factor. Great players on 'meh' teams may lose big, but they don't get individually crumpled up and tossed into a trash bin like that. Third round is where you look secondary. I expect the bears to chase a decent CB in FA, similar to the Pats with Browner and Revis in previous memory. And I think the bears can get a man coverage corner to pair with Fuller, letting Jennings end his career at the nickel before he gets cut sometime next year. I want to see the bears purchase a safety too, as well as draft one round 3 or 4. Cant obviously expect a tour de force, but at this point--in picking a safety 3-5 round.......you want a guy with great range who is a guy who is only as good as the unit, because that's what you're going to get. So round 3 my big board goes: OT Jake Fisher - Oregon FS Durel Eskridge - Syracuse CB/S Eric Rowe - Utah OLB Jake Ryan - Michigan OG Ali Marpet - Hobart Fisher played RT for one year while Kyle Long was the LT in 2012 at Oregon. The two know each other and worked out together. On one side of the line or at opposing OT I think they'd be a dynamic duo. Both are cut from the same cloth, athletic, mobile, physical, aggressive, attacking linemen. He just picked a bad year to come out because there are easily 10 other OT who on a down year are 1st rounders, but because the position is so plugged up--they're stocks are falling. Eskridge was one of the best in CFB at covering ground at the FS position. He was all over the field (granted Syracuse sucked), and has great size at 6'3, 210 to be physical and a problem in coverage. His man/man coverage skills and angles need touch ups. Marpet is a good story. He's going balls to the walls, and that's tremendous work ethic. If Kyle Long isn't long (no pun intended) for the RG spot--this kid is a hell of a fill in. 4th round BPA mode must be on. But there again are a few decent choices all over the board. David Johnson RB - Northern Iowa Z'Daraeus Smith 5 Tech DE - Kentucky Ibreheim Campbell FS - Northwestern Byron Jones CB - UConn Hayes Pullard LB - USC I'd kill to see Johnson in a bears uniform. Smith is a fantastic pass rusher who gets no credit because 1st rounder Alvin Dupree was his 'rush' linebacker. Campbell should be a 2nd round pick, but got injured late in the year and was a little slow to get back to health due to his hamstring. Jones is a CB with some size. I'm a believer you need at least one 6'1 CB or taller with long arms. Megatron, Jordy Nelson, Cordarrelle Patterson, and whomever else gets added over 6'3 will dwarf 6'0 DBs. You can have the best coverage skills, best footwork, and best intangibles. If you give up 4+ inches to decent receivers--I think you get burned. Kyle Fuller may become a stud, but I'm not going to bet on him to win any jump balls with Megatron 2x per season. Peanut was 3 inches taller than Fuller and gave up 4 to Megatron, not 7. Pullard I think can be pretty decent in a back up transitioned to full time role as I expect the bears to sign an ILB short term.
Perryman didn't test well in the combine like I predicted. Now it is time to snatch him up early third if he lasts that long. Last guy I recommended that didn't test well and fell off the map was some dude named Alshon Jeffery. Excellent tackler that can rush the passer and has improved in pass coverage. Legit 3-4 ILB. Watch the tape...
Not anywhere close to Mosley, but we need some LBs that can come up and make some fucking tackles with authority. High reward player if we can grab him in the mid rounds. Still like Kendricks more, but that probably isn't going to happen.
Perryman can fit as a run-stuffing 3-4 ILB. He can play coverage if he's asked to do very little and only cover his immediate zone. He won't be an impact pass-rusher, but he's not afraid to come downhill. He'll be a contributor to an NFL team - a role player, and likely at best an average starter. I'm not against the guy at all - more power to UM players - but he is what he is. Chicago can use every decent LB it can get its hands on, and if he's the best available, I hope they take him. But there may be better talent elsewhere while he's on the board for them.
Getting a slight Bobby Wagner vibe here... Let him play the three phases at LB and the results will be positive. Don't type fit him. Let him play the Willis role. Shitload of tackles and a few big plays mixed in to grab the novice eye. That is why David Harris is a target in FA. Same type of player. Need a leader in the middle and this guy has that potential. A real reach from Mosley, but still a strong 2nd/3rd round pick.
I am still on the UM guy and you are telling me why I am wrong. This is funny. 1/31/14: Perryman recorded 110 tackles with 9.5 tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles, five passes batted and an interception in 2014. Sources say that Perryman could be a late first-round or early second-round pick. Being taller, longer and faster would help him in pass coverage, which is the concern for the next level. Perryman is an instinctive, quick, and physical linebacker. The 6-foot, 243-pounder provides a lot of good down-and-distance situations for his defense with his prowess to stop the run. Not only is Perryman strong against the run, but he has shown capable of playing zone coverage. Perryman covers ground and does a nice job of covering receivers who come into his zone. He looks like he has three-down ability for the NFL. Perryman looks ready to be a starting middle linebacker in the NFL. 8/23/14: Perryman was excellent for the Hurricanes in the 2013. The junior totaled 108 tackles with five tackles for a loss, one sack and three passes broken up. He turned in a monster game against Florida with 14 tackles and a forced fumble. Perryman had 11 tackles against Florida State and 15 against Virginia Tech. As a sophomore in 2012, he recorded 64 tackles with six tackles for a loss, two passes broken up, one forced fumble and an interception returned 41 yards for a touchdown. Not only has Perryman been strong against the run, but he has shown well in pass coverage. Perryman covers a lot of ground and does a nice job of covering receivers who came into his zone. Perryman is a quick and physical linebacker who looks like he has three-down ability for the NFL. Sources told WalterFootball.com that they thought Perryman would have had a shot at being a first-round pick if he had entered the 2014 NFL Draft. He tested like crap in the combine like I predicted. Doesn't matter. He is a football player like Chris Borland.
The pick may frustrate in coverage a bit, but is going to lay the hammer down at the LOS and will improve at coverage in time. And we need that because we have a bunch of pussies right now. Somebody has to lay the hammer down at times... If we are going to suck, I want somebody to stick.
Even in a 3-4, you need an ILB that has a nose for the ball. Lewis and Willis. In any defense the LBs have to run and make plays.
It will be interesting. Like I said, I'm rooting for the guy - played hard for Miami his whole career. I just think, from watching him, that his ability to pass cover is being over-estimated. If he's asked to cover his immediate zone, he's a smart player who can have an impact. If he's asked to cover NFL TE's man-on-man, or cover a RB who knows how to run a route, he won't be what you need. But he'll be adequate covering a typical middle zone, and well above average in attacking the run. When we had discussed him, I was largely talking about him in the 4-3 MLB role we had become accustomed to seeing in Chicago (prior to Fucker) - in a well-schemed 3-4, he has a much better place. It's difficult to really make a call on the guy - he doesn't have the athletics or measurables, necessarily, so you want to see game tape. Problem is, his defensive coordinator might have been the only DC comparable to Fucker on the entire damn planet, so it's tough to gauge his play this year. And let it be known, Scotty, that I agree with you whole-heartedly on your assessment. He's a downhill run stuffer who brings a lot of heart and can definitely be one of a few necessary attitude-changers on-field for the defense (that's not going to be a one man job). And I think the top of the third round is about where he belongs. I just don't see a stand-out starter in the NFL - average and likely consistent, but average.
This is really where the " eye " comes in. You either can play the ball or you can't. It doesn't matter how well you test. This is more of the Chris Borland play the ball situation. Just like it was with Wagner. Do you have natural skills? Are you coachable? Are you a natural football player? The combine will drive him down, but when he produces, people will wonder why teams passed on him? David Harris doesn't have a ton of range, but he attacks the ball. That would be a solid add as well. The front three have to stand up and the LBs have to make plays. The crappy LBs are killing us. As soon as they start filling gaps and flying around again, the sooner the defense will be respectable.
