If we are lucky enough to get the next great offense building back at 11, Hunt is a great comp pick like when you take a QB and pair with a WR.
Is this a compilation of responses to stuff built up since you last stopped by or are you talking to yourself here?
I guess he missed the joke. He hasn't been around much but it was almost like he had a small window of internet because Al Gore would shut his shit down and he wanted to fire off as many of his thoughts to us before that happened. Thank you Scotty
First of all, this is probably the best thread on the site. Went back through and read every post about Floyd. Sounds like instead of a conventional 3-4 OLB, Fangio might use him as a freelancing LB, much like Georgia did. Sometimes edge rushing, sometimes contain, sometimes coverage. Maybe like how Buddy Ryan used Wilbur Marshall? That sounds awesome if this guy's talent can translate to the NFL. I'm more excited about him now.
I am not a homer eventhough I'm a Georgia fan. Always hope their players do well but if they aren't going to translate to the NFL, I would be honest about it. I watch every game this kid has played and he has gotten better every year. Freakish athlete that seems very coachable because he did get better every season. I think the talking heads on ESPN didn't watch enough film on this guy because the knocks on him are pretty weak and reek of short sighted evaluations. They were to busy trying to find the 3 good highlights of Goff and Wentz. This is my favorite first round pick of the Bears since Greg Olsen. I love Kyle Long now and in his draft but thought Emery reached on him big time. He got lucky he panned out as well as he did.
I'm curious on what you guys think of Brady Gustafson Montana? There isn't much tape on him and probably not much TV out of Montana. The kid is a big guy 6'7" and has a gun. He will be coming out next year. He outdueled Wentz in this game, put up 455 yards and has a cannon arm
I haven't dug down deep into next years draft just yet. I know the big name QB's who will probably come be coming out and Deshaun Watson from Clemson is the only one I like so far but we will see how it goes and barring an injury, he will likely be the number 1 pick. Wentz at this time last year was virtually unknown. Goff was known but people wanted to see how he played this season which to me, was extremely average, especially against top competition. I will have to keep an eye on this guy, he definitely looks the part.
This Brady Gustafson is a kid I'll be watching. I can see his stock rising faster than a sailor on leave if he continues to play well. He seems pretty accurate, but his mobility is still a question mark. He showed a lot of composure in this being his first game, but I think his lack of experience could keep him from rising too far. He seems to be a perfect developmental project.
He does look impressive. The one play I really liked here that showed his awarenessand his ability as a threat @1:34 he drew both LB's and when they committed he flipped over their heads to a wide open WR.
I was just looking at where all my Georgia Bulldogs ended up and I have a few that ended up in really good situations and also that I think are underrated players (other than Floyd): Jordan Jenkins - OLB - NY Jets - This kid always made plays and performed while playing at Georgia, think he went to a great situation. Patg and I talked about him a few times and think the Jets may have scored a diamond in the rough with this guy to go along with a solid defense. Todd Bowles will love what this kid brings. Malcolm Mitchell - WR - Patriots - Malcolm played with crappy QB's his final two years a Georgia, was also hampered by some injuries but is a very good athlete who I think fits perfectly in New England. Has tremendous work ethic and is a great team player that will work hard to be great. Think New England found another late round contributor to the offense. Keith Marshall - RB - Redskins - Recruited the same year as Todd Gurley and had just as much hype when he started. Played very well his freshman year but then was just killed with devastating injuries what seemed like every year. Think if he stays healthy and is given a chance to play, he could be a very good RB, has tremendous speed even after all the leg injuries.
Is anyone else watching college football this season so far as not-enthused as I am about the quarterbacks potentially coming out? I'm watching some of these big time prospects, and have a few thoughts so far...... DeShone Kizer from Notre Dame has the size and arm, but he really has some shitwad moments seemingly at a critical point in every game so far for ND, part of the reason why they're 1-3. ND is also the most overrated team in the NCAA, but this post isn't for that. He forces a lot of passes. I watched some film of him against Duke last weekend.... The 2 big things I took away watching this (mainly early 2nd half he did these a lot) is that he steps up in the pocket with virtually-perfect protection. And he fucks up the play. Just over the 5 minute, 30 second minute mark, he steps up into the pocket.......and into the defensive tackle who eventually gets past his guard/center doing a great 6-7 second protection job and takes him down as he forces a pass to a guy double covered by a DB under and the free safety over his receiver. I saw him do this 2-3 times. Either bad intuition, which may come with time to fix, or he hears footsteps......Colin Kaepernick style. He also forces passes too much. Paxton Lynch when I reviewed him last year did the same thing. Both had/have solid TEs and a #1/2 WR combo, and it seems before the play begins, Kizer, like Lynch already knew who the target was and he would whip it in. A few too many times the safety blankets this #3 WR/flanker, and Kizer stares him down the whole play, without surveying the other side of the field and just forces it in. One time he ended up with a pick, another couple break ups, and a few times his guys get it. Lamar Jackson isn't eligible to come out until 2018 draft. True sophmore from Louisville. Dude is sensational. I wont go into him. But next year, if the bears don't take a quarterback, and focus on the offensive lines.......this would be the kid I want. I'm currently watching Oklahoma State/Texas and Mason Rudolph from OSU. Reminds me of a taller, statue-esque Matt Stafford, when Stafford was a Georgia. He's a "throw to a zone, let your guy go get it" kind of quarterback with flashes of brilliance with his long ball, and some bad throws, overthrowing his smurf receivers who are wide open. Rudolph doesn't have big targets, but these 6 feet and below receivers, especially James Washington are violent in a way you want your receivers to be. Rudolph's missed 3 wide open swing passes, and his guys have room to run after catch, because Texas' defense looks as bad as the bears. They look so lost on quick slants and post routes and Oklahoma State has put up 37 points in the 1st half for a reason. Regardless, he has to be more accurate and learn to hit his guys in stride more or he will be irrelevant in the NFL. DeShaun Watson from Clemson, arguably the #1 QB prospect with Kizer. 6'3, 200 lbs. Looks really thin. He makes great throws, reads well, but he gets lazy when his team goes up. Against Georgia State and South Carolina state, 2 laugher non-conference games for Clemson; he looks unstoppable 1st half, and starts slacking in the 2nd. Bad decisions, and clearly his foot is off the gas which leads to interceptions. Still want to watch more film on him. Also want to review Luke Falk from Washington State, and Kaaya from the U more. I dont buy Chad Kelly from Ole Miss or Baker Mayfield from Oklahoma. Both of them are trash. Although I'd prefer the bears figure out the tackle situation before they get the QB prospect of the future, I'm also not opposed to drafting 2 quarterbacks (one early, one mid-late), as I expect Jay to be gone, and everything behind Hoyer blows at this time.
Thanks Pat I love these reports you do I can target games to watch if available. Now I asked about Brady Gustafson earlier and found this. I was much higher on him then but then I see this breakdown of that Wentz game last year the same one I posted earlier. I come away with it like he has tunnel vision as well as accuracy, and while he has a 58% completion rate he does like to push the ball down the field. http://nflspinzone.com/2016/07/12/p...y-gustafson-vs-north-dakota-state-university/
Got to see Kaaya in the GT game today. It wasn't a good judge, as he only had a handful of throws, and the competition wasn't always the best judge (played with an unthreatened lead most of the game). Miami plays quality games the rest of the season, so there should be plenty to watch. He has improved. He's putting more zip on his passes, though still floats some, which won't fly at the next level. He's still showing indecision - hesitant to check it down, and waits way too long, usually leading to him taking a big hit and throwing an interrupted ball. One of my concerns was his understanding of timing after the snap, and I'm still not convinced. I'm hoping that improves. He's an accurate thrower, calm under pressure, and not entirely un-mobile. Sells the fake well, tends to know what to look for... He's been very unspectacular in his career. With the schedule and new coaching staff, especially since injuries have taken weapons from this offense, I'm looking for him to step up and make the kind of plays that distinguish NFL QB's, as well as allay the two concerns from above.
I'm not that enthused but I do really like Deshaun Watson. He isn't perfect but of all these prospects this season, by far has the biggest upside. What I also like about him is that since he arrived at Clemson, he has taken them to a perennial national contender instead of the also rans that Clemson used to always be. I also like Kizer in terms of size and arm potential. Like Patg said he is prone to some bone head plays, but offense hasn't been the problem at ND, it is the swiss cheese defense. Brad Kaaya I need to see more from, like some things about him but not sold just yet. I guy i have enjoyed watching this season and has a good arm but is only 6'1 is Austin Allen at Arkansas. He took an absolute beating against Texas A&M but still stood in there and delivered some great throws. Played really well against TCU and although it was Alcorn St, put on a great throwing display. Not a top pick and only a Junior who probably won't come out but could be one to watch in the future. Outside of Kizer and Watson, I don't see to many worthy of a top 5 pick in terms of talent and potential. I really like Watson, think he brings great intangibles and if developed right, can be the top QB we are looking for. If Goff and Wentz can go 1 and 2, Watson is a lock for the top pick next season so if the Bears aren't the worst in the league, they won't get him and we will have to keep sifting through the other QB's to find that hidden gem, that shoots up like Carson Wentz.
