I think the tackling is that important. I hope he falls. Jeffery, Eifert, and Mosley are my guys over the last three years. I want you to sell me on a pick this year. Put out the best pick. It is always fun, I was shocked we took Jeffery. I will look at LB, S, and then DL. I have to find one worthy of first round status. You can tell if they have it or not, forget the draftniks. Look past the hype, the film doesn't lie.
Don't believe everything you read, trust what you see. I know you have the " eye " now. The garbage confuses the issue.
QB is out of the conversation, unless we're talking 7th round, David Fales of next year. Shaq Thompson or Prewitt. Really cant go wrong with either right now.
That was for Dline, but I assumed you would understand. Go lighter on the scouting reports and heavier on the film. I know you have the eye by now... Trust it. Don't let the BS cloud your opinion.
Don't barf up scouting reports. Form your own opinion and then we can talk. We will disagree and it will be fun.
Outside Youtube, I really don't know where to go looking for gametape, and honestly, Youtube only shows the highlights, which yeah is nice. But Youtube doesn't show tendencies or mindsets of defensive players. I don't care to pay for University of Washington's gametape week in and out just to watch how Shaq Thompson reacts every play, in motion, etc. Youtube doesn't show that. I've seen highlights, I've seen stat sheets and advanced stat sheets. I know what I like and look for. If you know a website where I can watch full games for free, give me, and I'll get you what you want to the T. Otherwise I'm watching the CBS, ABC, ESPN, and Fox Sports games and limited to what they show. And this isn't a professional scout, I do this for fun to get you guys who don't watch college ball a chance to get acclimated with a lot of new names you're going to hear alot about in a couple months.
Well I love the thread and was getting ready to reply... Then had the thought of what if tucker is still running the show next year... Pretty much meaning it won't matter who we take, that fucking retard won't use them correctly and they'll be a fukin waste as long as he is here... *WALL* Agree unless Collins is available we go lb and still maybe LB even if Collins is there. I could easily be talked into taking the dude from Baylor though. Sadly if we play like we have been we will be picking in the top ten for sure maybe top five. If I had to bet right now I would put money on 8th overall.
Walt's recent mock has us 9th, which right now in the conversation of Collins, he had us taking collins. But its also with Randy Gregory. Didn't do a write up on him, but he looks like a premier pass rusher. No surprises, QBs and OTs dominate his top 10.
I for one appreciate it. I don't follow college ball so these draft reports make it more interesting to watch the draft when it comes around, etc.
Great piece about DE Shawn Oakman from CBSucks...... http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/feature/24784969/baylor-rebirth
I have watched the guy a lot this season down here in Texas. He is very raw but his size and athletic ability is freakish. HUUUUGGGEEEE potential. The defense he plays on is not very good but if you draft this guy, you shouldn't be expecting immediate impact, may take a couple years but his talent is undeniable.
Hmmmm... I'm never sure about these types of guys. I'd have to see a lot more of him before I can lean one way or the other re: him "panning out". But even then, if I could actually tell one way or the other, I sure as hell wouldn't be typing from the desk I'm at now.
Well at the rate this team's going......Oakman is looking more and more in play. The defense needs a pass rusher. It also needs 2 effective linebackers and an effective strong safety. You can solve 1-2 of these problems instantly judging on the likely spot the Bears will be drafting.......High 1st, high 2nd. Unless of course, this team learns to not suck. Which 2 sports do you solve? I'll be honest, after a couple of LBs I mentioned, I'm not sure many will be available come round 2. Mckinney and Thompson will not be there.
How long is Young signed? We can say the team needs a pass-rusher, but what's the future for Young, Houston, and Allen? Do you cut them and eat the money, keep them on the bench, etc.? Certainly the latter two aren't anywhere near up to snuff (and in one case, not playing at all). But if you draft a first round pass rusher, where does that put the roster at the position? Just questions, more than anything. Stuff to consider, when looking at priorities. If/When Briggs leaves, you're left with this at LB: Bostic , Williams (contract length?) , Shame , Greene , and the litany of guys behind them on the depth chart who have outperformed them, but really can't be considered fixtures going forward. At this point, I guess I'd have to say "LB", if only to try and add someone who can make plays at that level of the defense. I do think, as get closer, it'll come down to talent. There are so many holes to fill that I don't think you have to prioritize by position. At this point, half the guys in the coming draft would find contributing roles on this defense.
The bears could, in theory get rid of Jared Allen after next year year with 15.5 mil guaranteed of his 4 year, 32 mil deal. Willie Young signed for 3 years, 9 mil. Gotta keep him. Houston, though an idiot, is going to stick around. There's no such thing as too much talent. Especially at pass rusher. DJ Williams is gone. Shame better be. Bostic seriously is an idiot, and needs to be on special teams. Athletic freak, absolutely no knowledge of the plays or his assignments. I don't think Christian Jones is any answer. I think he's average at best, which on this defense is insulting. Dede Lattimore too. Naturally, I agree. But in the question of winning the trenches battle, and taking a look at Detroit's success--their front 4 right now is incredible. The Linebackers are decent, and the secondary takes advantage of reaping the benefits of a consistent, great pass rush. I'm 50-50 on LB and DE. There will be a SS available round 2 that wont be another brick in the wall of a long line of crappy safeties weve seen.
Hey Patg, Not sure if it was you or Scotty or both but I know Chris Borland was high on my want list in this past draft. He is playing really well for the 49ers right now and that is without Patrick Willis or Bowman playing. He would look awful good in a Bears uniform right now, he actually mimicked Brian Urlacher workouts as well while training: http://www.49ers.com/video/videos/C...Workouts/6863bcfe-809c-468b-bf63-1449c0fb32f4 Freaking 49ers got him in the 3rd round. The guy has had registered 35 tackles in the last 2 games, 18 against the Rams and 17 against the Saints and also had the game winning fumble recovery against the Saints. Missed on this guy, goes to show that sometimes the combine doesn't always reveal the best football players.
I wanted him 2nd round, pretty sure I had him as one of my 3-4 picks there when Mongo did his challenge......he's been a scrappy motheerfucker......however, couple things. He's had Patrick Willis along side him in a talented 3-4 system run by one of the better defensive minds for the 3-4, Vick Fangio. He's in a position to succeed. I sincerely doubt he would be here. DJ Williams would be starting in front of him. Often, Sam and Will LBs are out of position and don't have a clue with what they're doing. They'd still be exposed and this defense would probably be a hair or two better than now. But. He'd be far better than anything we got at linebacker......so yeah--Emery done fucked up again
